    My friend recommended this video to help me take advantage of my natural mobility through adjusting my shield use. Excellent stuff, I'm subscribing!

      Cool! Glad my videos are helpful. My style is a rare one in that it is a very active heater shield style that plays to advantages in agility and speed. It sounds like a good fit for you!

    I'm very interested in joining the SCA, I was gonna join a while back but the people I was going in with had a lot of in-group fighting and the group fell apart. What's the best way to get starting armor and a sword and shield to practice? Love your videos! Thanks!

      +ParadaParadise Sorry to hear about the bad experience--the only fighting that is supposed to happen is on the field! but of course, people being people, many a battle has been waged on Facebook ;-)
      I recommend you check out armourarchive.org, and read up on the 'I wanna be a...' lots of great advice there on how to build or buy the armor kit of your dreams...or at least a 'get on the field' munitions grade kit.

    Thank you for posting this, and did you end up working on the more advanced shield manipulations ?

    • @DietrichvonStroheim
      @DietrichvonStroheim  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We didn't--it's better to master simpler techniques before moving on to more technically advanced.

    dont know if people have said this enough. these tut videos are some of the better ones online. I have a question though, your shield in this video is a centre grip heater (dont know style name) how do you find it compared to the bar and basket style?

      +Lucas Ward Thank you! I'm glad you've been enjoying. This shield is actually strapped at the forearm, and has a second leather strap for my gauntleted hand. I used to use a shield basket, and prefer the hand grip SO MUCH more. Less weight, greater agility, plus can do sneaky stuff like grab shield edges, weapon hafts, flags in battle, etc.

      Also, are you still in Atlantia? I would love to come out to one of y'all's practices if you are fairly close to me.

    Would these work for center grip shields or do you have a different set up for center grips? Also I live in the West and any shield contact and people start yelling about shield contact. have you used these in the western kingdoms before?

    • @DietrichvonStroheim
      @DietrichvonStroheim  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Greetings! I fight a lot of center grip too, and yes, these two techniques work great (so does the shield jab to the bottom of the opponent's shield!) Using center grip I do the manipulations more with the center or boss, then the edges, for more strength.
      I have done pickups with Western fighters at Pennsic and Gulf Wars and never had any problem, but I have not travelled out that way. I would talk with your local teachers, knights, etc. to get a good understanding of what the cultural norms are for shield manipulation in your area. Good luck and fight hard!
