Maybe I'm missing someone, but as far as I can tell, Victor DeLorenzo was the first dummer I know of who used drumming brushes (as opposed to sticks) with this kind of punk-rock energy. It changed my understanding of drumming completely. I know Pete Defrietas of echo and the bunnymen used brushes for their music, but Victor did it first and with more power.
I tend to forget about them, but they were probably my favorite band from late 1983 until sometime in 1985. Their first two records were both classics, but the third one was lame, and I lost track of them after that. Coming back to the band after many years, the music holds up well, better than, say, REM. It is very evocative of the period.

Dead Milkmen so underrated. Highlight of my college years singing in a band and opening for the Milkmen in Fairfax, Virginia. Great guys.
