    Since we can't pin a year on the decade, this could either be about as old as Helen Keller, or as Charlie Chaplin or Adolf Hitler.
    A bit more perspective: This is from before Coca-Cola was a soft drink.
    This is from before the Dakotas, Montana and Washington being officially part of the USA.
    This could be older than the Eiffel tower.
    This could be older than Van Gogh's "Starry Night".
    This is older than PIZZA!
    Goddamn, this is old!

    • @vhego
      @vhego 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Gongasoso this is older than the first ever english football championship, this is older than judo, this is older than the first motor car, this is INDEED older than the eiffel tower.

    Great info. I have the 1926 2-17, which was their first steel string models because they began their X-bracing in production that year!. Its because of the bracing those older models need super light strings.

    Beautiful rendition of Ave Maria! Also, friction tuners have been working great for several centuries on violins, violas, cellos, etc. and older flamenco guitars.

      how do they even stand in? sure too much grip would crack the headstock, so dont say they fit 'snug'... they dont use bolts even... very weird how they keep in place

  • @jondana8380
    @jondana8380 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    That was more than an episode. That was, at least a little bit, an historic event. how many of us have been playing our whole lives and yet have never seen one of these guitars? Ivory friction pegs! WHAT?! I came across a book somewhere of transcriptions of compositions by 19th century American guitarists. It was clear that these were early examples of American fingerpicking style playing - i.e., there were rags, marches, hymns, and other "popular" styles, all solo instrumental pieces - and they would likely have been played on a guitar just like this. Mark, 'Ave Maria' was a great choice to play; that, too, is a piece that one of those first Martin players might have known and played. We literally got to hear American guitar music from ca. 1880. Thanks so much for this unique treat. BRAVO!
