That low-tuned Jazzmaster thing is just magic … reminds me of Madison Cunningham! So glad I got to hear this in context with the rest of the band last week!
Madison got the idea from Blake mills - they have the same producer so maybe Blake got it from his producer. Blake does so many strange things that sound so fucking good
Packy. Dude. It only took a few seconds of hearing you at the Nashville show to realize this dude and his playing and tone were going to be super special. Was consistently blown away all night. Which is saying a lot considering how great everyone on that stage is. Don’t think I’ve been so in aw of what someone was doing with a guitar since first seeing Laur Joamets with Sturgill Simpson a while back. Thanks for doing this excellent rundown and please keep playing with Theo! 👏
I've been into drums since watching Whiplash a few weeks ago and I thought to myself, I wonder what Packy's doing. I remember him killing it on the drums way back in elementary school! I watched him play from then to high school. I'm glad he is still playing!
Packy, it was an absolute pleasure getting to see you perform twice on Theo's US tour (Boston and Chicago). You fit right in on Theo's stage: someone who is immensely talented and knows their shit but is clearly in it for the love of the game and to spread the joy of music with their playing. I've enjoyed your work on Woody's records before but I was truly blown away seeing you live. KILLER tone and great musicianship. Rock on dude!
Yooo, thank you for the super kind words! The joy is very real - especially when I get to do it with such an incredible and loving crew as Theo's. Thanks for following along, more to come soon I hope!
Found this after being blown away by Packy's playing at Theo's Dublin show. A masterclass in feel, restraint and then letting rip when required. This rundown is the perfect morning after viewing to see behind the curtain!
Oh my god super inspiring!! Thanks guys! Also Theo bringing the mic closer to his face when mimicking Daffy Duck's facial expressions is the funniest thing ever.
So appreciate this rig rundown! Saw you in Carrboro NC and that show was OFF THE CHAIN fun… thank you so much for sharing your gifts with us and I hope the rest of the tour is wonderful for you all
Your tone at the Vic show was off the charts, and your parts were insanely tasty in the mix, leaving the perfect amount of space for Theo and the keys. And when it was shredding time, good god man, it was your night! Amazing to see how much preparation went into this load out, because during the show, it looked completely automatic.
Packy, we stood in front of you at the House of Blues in Dallas. You were rocking! Your tone was spot on for every song! Theo is lucky to have a guitarist like you complementing the songs so well. Keep it up!!!
Hearing you play last Sunday in Amsterdam was huge.. I was amazed by the tone and the incredible playing.. BUT thanks for doing this rundown it's even more amazing to see how this rig works. Awsome man, I instantly became a huge fan, I love Theo's songs and you just helped make them even more special! Keep it up! 🤟
I saw you guys in philly, such a great show and you sounded fantastic. Those duel slide parts were killer! I've been wondering what that fuzz sound was in five watt ever since, so thanks for doing this!
Wow that's an amazing collection! I love the guitar sounds on Theo's latest! My only electric is a late 80's '62 reissue, and I cherish it. Just feels right! Those pedals are really sweet! Thanks Theo and Packy you are an amazing guitarist👍
Your set in Philly was so amazing. I loved how you combined precise, minimalist playing during the May Erlewine songs with aggressive, impressive solos to finish em up. Wished they let you rip more during the Katzman set, although you all killed it nevertheless.
i was at the opening show in SLC and i have to say nick nailed FOH sound. that was the best mixed live show i have ever heard in my life! you guys were amazing!
dude OFC joe’s signal chain is bass-tuner-amp that’s hilarious. and has the best bass tone in the game. thank you for this video packy and for all your music this stuff is life changing!!!!
Reverends look and sound cool, but they’ve always felt kinda stiff to me. I know a couple guys who love theirs tho so maybe it’s a personal taste thing.
So good! Can I ask what guage chromes? Coincidentally, I have a set of flats on the way in the mail to set up my jazzmaster low tuned. Went with 13s thomastiks
Hi packy! Amazing sounds and playing. I was wondering if you simply connected a 5pin midi to 1/4" trs cable from the Preamp to the MWAVE in order to connect the two, or if their adapter is needed? Thank you!
@@music_works hey, thanks! I made a MIDI>TRS cable from what I had laying around…I can’t find the exact pinout now but I believe the mvave works with type A TRS>MIDI cables. But many of the ones available are 1/8” so you’d need an 1/8 to 1/4 adapter as well.
@@PackyLundholm thank you so much! I *just* got a CB Preamp the day they discontinued 'em and I'm planning to try it out with the MWAVE. Appreciate your explanation! Thanks kindly
Would you say the preamp mkii is worth the investment? I have a fuzz and a distortion pedal it seems it could replace and find more unique tones when recording guitar parts.
Sorry for the slow reply - it could very likely replace those pedals for you, and do a lot more. The only issue with the fuzz circuit is a couple of the fuzz controls are trim pots inside the unit, so you can’t really tweak those on the fly. Otherwise I’m still loving it.

@@grosebud4554 cool thanks for the reminder to check out more of Blake’s stuff :)
She’s got a sick episode on Cory Wong’s podcast. Lotta insight and just a cool person

That pre amp business is pretty fucking sweet!
You and Theo in Leuven were the greatest two-guitarist combo I’ve seen in a long while. Also, outstanding guitar work with May Erlewine!
Thank ya!! I really love how our playing fits together.
I was at the Indy concert a few nights ago and I'm still looking for my face. It melted off. Walked away from that show so so inspired.
That is some sofisticated sht right there!
Saw you in Toronto and was BLOWN AWAY!! Thank you for spreading so much joy with your playing
Thanks, Packy! Love the tone of your guitars and your playing. Looking forward to the show in Amsterdam. I hope you'll be there!
Blew me away in London last night. What a great player!

Been hoping you guys would do this! Thank you!!
I saw you guys in Seattle. That slide solo right before encore made me go home and look up who the guitar player was. Absolutely killer player!

Haha yup, my dude barely even needs knobs! Thank ya!!
That is a very cool rig. Been looking for a good envelope filter and this fender pedal might just be the right thing
Right on! It’s nice, especially for the price. The distortion circuit is interesting too, tho I don’t use it in this context.
This is awesome. What tuning is the guitar for You Could Be President in?
Theo plays it in open D (DADF#AD), I’ve played my part in a couple different tunings but lately I’ve landed on D standard (DGCFAD). Thanks!
This is great. PG missed out!

Gated fuzz, ha!
Pedals that have pedals are the best; if your pedal doesn't have another pedal then add a pedal.
*facts*
Yo dawg I heard you like pedals

Polenta.
Tone is not in the fingers. That's technique.
Katzman? Sounds super sus.
