Great how-to. I recommend a couple shots of spray paint over the two arm bolts before removing, so when the new arm goes on, there will be two circles you can use for reference to tighten down the new upper control arm and preserve the alignment much better.
Did this today. Took it on a test drive and when going over speed bumps I can hear a little bit of banging. The ball joint was the most difficult. Followed every step. Everything's tight. Gotta take another look tomorrow
@@tommylee9586 Yup fixed. They weren't tightened all the way. However she pulls to the right pretty aggressively after 5 alignments. Checked the caliper to see if it was sticking, looked good. Taking it to a specialist Monday morning to see if they can figure it out.
I have 2005 Durango and I hearing squeaking noise. Do i have struts or shocks? I notice you changed out the arms and shocks on both sides. Thanks for sharing this video. Awesome job.
The setup for your Durango will be similar to the one on this truck. The squeaking can be coming from the bushings on the control arms as well as the sway bar. To check where it is coming from you can move the car up and down and try to pinpoint the origin of the squeak. Thanks for watching!
Hi, i have a dodge dakota 4x4 same year i'm having struggess when i push break it pulls to right side, i already replace the caliper and break pads and still doing the same you thing its the upper control arm ??? Or the racking pinion ???
Been looking for a guide on doing this on the 2wd version with rivets on the ball joints. Does this mostly apply? Havnt gotten a chance to check out my friends truck to compare. Screw drilling out the rivets for all 4 ball joints.
just seeing your question they can easily(reasonably) cut out with a 3 ? lb hammer and a cold chisel safety glasses recommended if you don't have a chisel holder use vice grips in the chisel and HIT EM!!! or the heade can be ground off too

That’s a good tip thanks!
Great video. I'm going to be doing this job (and the lower arms too) in a week or so, so I'm watching all the videos I can to get ready.
Best install video I’ve seen man good job!!
Nice and clear installation. I get the courage now to do it.
Thank you for this video! Very helpful I was able to get all the tools I need before I got started.

hopefully you've fixed your banging by now... but I thought maybe a worn out or broken shock...👌

Haha i was waiting for the 10 mm socket joke 😂
thanks simple great video made the job easy to do.
Do you know any video that would help me with the lower control arm I have a 2002 Dakota 4x4
Should the side bolts on the upper part be tightened?
What's the recommended torque lbs on a electric ratchet for automotive jobs in your opinion?

@@daringmotors again thank you for a quick response to my concern.
Could be tie rod also
Where did you get that bump stop replacement

Did you ever found out what was the issue having same thing rn
How did you get that ball joint seated off camera? "the hardest part"
I used a big pry bar and pry down on the upper control arm to get it seated properly
Any info on alignment after?
Any idea where I can get the upper control arm bump stops
If you check rockauto.com and go under suspension there will be an option for bump stops
What about the upper control arm bushing nuts??
What are them shocks? KYB 565043?? Good?
They are pretty good haven’t had any complaints

Is the 2 wheel drive and the 4 wheel drive control arm the same on a 98 dodge Dakota ???
They are not they are different for the 2wd
Good video but is missing an important part: how to put the upper ball joint shaft into the spindle...
Grab another jack and jack it up. It’ll take some work but it’s doable. Maybe pull the ball joint out some too
@@MikeeJamees Did it and worked great! Tnx!
how about the lower ?
No torque specs?
Any tips if the bolt on the shock doesnt want to come off
A lot of heat an penetrating fluid and loosen slowly so it doesn’t snap off.
@@daringmotors im afraid of the shock exploding is that possible ?
If you keep it centered on the bolt area you will be fine
@@daringmotors thank you!
No problem!
Very helpful thank you
Glad the video helped!
What is that ratchet tool you used? To remove the break line?
It is called a ratchet wrench here is a link to the one I used.

Glad to help
Gotta do our front end.

By looking at your frame, you clearly don't live in New England
Makes me happy I’m not in the rust belt!
