I appreciate your honesty in that you don’t go overboard on your predictions. And by that I mean you look at overall temperature patterns which are more accurate than precipitation forecasts, especially the further out you go. Thank very much!
Excellent channel, I've learned more about the dynamics of weather and temperature from you than anyone else! How the closing of the northern sea ice impacts the flow southward of the cold, how the bare snowless ground moderates the temperature, as well just how big of an impact the Great Lakes have upon temperature moderation, I've always know of their snow effect, but just not the degree in which temperatures are buffered!
Regarding ice fishing… here in Minnesota, ice fishing is almost a religion to some (kind of like ice hockey). There always are people that get on the ice either too soon, or think the ice is thicker than it is. Already been reports of people falling through ice (think not so smart). Only requires a few solid inches to walk on, about 6 inches for ATVs or snowmobiles. Generally want a foot or more solid ice for cars/trucks. It’s a good idea to know if a lake has springs and/ or where they are, and to be cautious near inlets and outlets. Where there is potential water movement, ice can be sketchy. I’ve been on a solid 36 inches of ice on Leech Lake in past years so ice can get pretty thick with the right weather… Have a great day! Bring on the snow!
I really appreciate your forecasts but I've noticed that unless there's a storm, you tend to miss the Plains. I get that the region isn't population dense but could you mention Kansas and Oklahoma a smidge more often, please? It would be great to know if you anticipate colder or warmer temps, potential for a pattern change, etc. I'm sure you're aware that we've been dealing with severe drought conditions for a few years. It would be greatly appreciated to know your thoughts on whether or not we can expect snow or even rain this winter. Thank you!
I know quite a bit of people going up north to fish before the end of December. Im located in southern MN at the moment and people are putting pop up tents on lakes right now.
Best weather show on TH-cam 👍👍
I love this channel! Short and sweet. Thankyou so much, Travis!

That's exciting. He just hit 10k.
Want those warm temperatures which works for me.
Other people were suggesting that the
current East Coast cold could last
'for weeks' then the models changed
We shall see
Do you think this weather pattern has any parallels to the winter of 1976 and 1977?
Not even close I was in sixth grade during that winter.Lake Erie froze over on December 14 that year.
I’m hoping it warms up. This cold is really making the arthritus flare up
No ice fishing AGAIN here in Milwaukee.Too much wind screeed everything up.
A hover craft would be great for ice fishing.
🥶
🥶🥶🥶
Travis, what is your take on the ENSO? weak La Nina, possibly neutral? Thanks for your efforts!
The lakes in MN aren’t solid enough for ice fishing yet but probably soon at this rate.
