- Saw people saying that Splash Mountain should be reskinned to a Princess and the Frog theme. I thought about the idea and the music from the film and felt it may actually work fairly well. So here you have it, Splash Mountain with music from Princess and the Frog.

Also I must add that they confirmed that the ride is a new story that takes place after the movie and that the song wont be playing for that part.
If you look at this guy’s plans, he has all kinds of creative ideas, from stopping at Mama Odie‘s, to misty bayous filled with fireflies, to a creepy friends on the other side segment. It could really work.

@KTMD the ride would be kind of boring if they didnt include voodoo or the main villan. In order for this ride to work it needs to have an intresting story not just oh the main chacters are getting ready for Mardi gras.
I think it will be great especially with all the new technology and ways of making the dark ride parts better, just look at na’vi river journey!! It sounds like a really fun theme and I’ve never been to the american parks but i’ve heard that it is quite close to new orleans square so they might make a new bayou part of that area including the ride! I’m only a bit upset because I might never get to ride the original.. but there are plenty of ride throughs on youtube and hear me out, I think this princess and the frog ride is going to be like guardians of the galaxy mission breakout: everyone hates the idea at first because it was such a beloved attraction but when it opened everyone was shocked and ended up loving it! Obviously many will miss the original but I think Tiana deserves an attraction all to herself, especially as the music and the film was amazing!!! I can just imagine how good its going to be, they can make misty bayous with amazing music ughhh i can’t wait!!
lauraknots, yeah, this sums up my feelings perfectly. What I’m worried about is that they’re probably going to close down critter country, and I’m worried about the Winnie the Pooh ride. They better move it to fantasy land or something, or I’m going to pop!

Not only does "Friends on the Other Side" fit the leadup to the big drop very well music wise, but the current Splash Mountain already makes use of a shadow effect with Brer Fox during that part! Could very easily have Facilier's shadow there, among other voodoo visual effects.

@@taylormcleod499 I was thinking the same thing. But then I thought some ore. The entire ride was a marketing ploy that blew up in Disney's favor. It was never meant to be something nostalgic or big, it was just there to attract teens and promote the new movie "splash", with tom hanks. It has no big correlation to Song of the South, and view that as you may, it means that it also has no historic ties. However, the ride breaks down constantly, almost everyday. Just yesterday, a boat sank. Also, the animatronics and just the ride in general is outdated. Riding through the lense of nostalgia isn't the same as riding through the lense of a newcomer. There always has to be something fresh and invigorating to attract new guests. Rides will come and go, but memories stay forever.

Feels like 2010 all over again hearing this music, since that's when the Princess and the Frog movie was brand new and could easily have gotten a TV series.
As a kid after seeing the movie I was just stalking Disney online to seeing when the sequel would come out, it’s been 10 years and Tangled got a series and a sequel as to when they got married what did Tiana get? Just some pets for the whisker haven show and an appearance on Sofia the First and 3 minutes in Ralph Breaks the Internet. I thought the movie was a bombshell I didn’t actually know it was the worst sold Disney princess movie ever... like her and Merida need some more credit it ain’t their faults they both came out at the worst time!
Oh and forgot the video games... oh good old video games... wait OMG TIANA GOT MORE STUFF THAN MERIDA BUT BRAVE MADE MORE THEN HER MOVIE?!?! OH THIS IS HYSTERICAL!

Jeremy Mittwer Well, there are a lot of recent Universal rides that have screens as the only experience. Of course there are the theater-type rides like Minons and Jimmy Fallon that is, but there is also the Fast and Furious ride, which is literally mobbed with screens. The actual ride takes, like, 5 minutes of you in a bus with you mostly staring at screens with very few times the bus actually moves, not to mention the acting on the screens are very cheesy, horrible, and rushed. The Kong ride is also very screen-spammed too, though that one is better. It'd be my absolute worst nightmare if the upcoming TPAF ride was filled with screens just like Fast and Furious, as it is not only one of my favorite Disney movies but also Splash Mountain is a very classic ride that made a few songs very popular, so they better make it worthwhile for me. I'd love for them to use creative special effects, and beautiful animated animatronics, like the ones from the Belle ride in Tokyo! Tho I am convinced they will use screens at least for a few backgrounds like on the Frozen ride over at Epcot.

During the drop they should add dr facilier’s shadow friends on the sides and them Laughing at you and him saying “are you ready?” Right before the drop and ofc his laugh at the drop and replace the fox with his shadow ofc and then replace the bunny with Tiana and Prince Naveen

That would be good but I also have an idea where Facilier and the shadows are singing "Are you ready" while the shadows are following you up the hill. At the end near the drop they would sing "I hope you got what you wanted, but you lost what you had!" while Facilier would be laughing while you rode down the hill. This is just my idea lol.

It’s going to be sad losing Splash Mountain; it’s a childhood favorite of mine. But! I’m extremely excited to have a ride based on a movie that celebrates women and African American culture! This is a really great opportunity to make a ride even better and look forward to the future!

I feel the same way. I’m definitely gonna miss listening to Zip iddy do dah at the end of the ride. But I can’t wait to ride this new version! I’m really glad that when I have kids someday, that they will grow up with princess and the frog as a ride. Something that they will hopefully look up to. I’ve always hoped for a princess and the frog ride. I live on the east coast so I primarily go to WDW and I don’t know if there is a princess and the frog ride anywhere else. But that was something that I always thought that Disney world missed out on. So I’m glad that it’s finally coming to WDW. But I’m gonna miss splash mountain. Although I am a little curious as to what they are going to be naming the new (kind of) attraction. Will it stay splash mountain? Or will it be renamed to something else? Something that has to do with Princess Tiana?

People are tripping if they think that one petition caused Disney to change this ride, and that another one to keep it will work. Trust me, they probably were thinking of changing this for at least two reasons. It can be based off of a movie that more will recognize and enjoy being on a ride about. And now that this cultural awakening has occurred, it just gave them the green light to go through with it and announce it probably before they were even wanting to. Also, I don’t know why people would be offended other than being sad because it was their favorite. There is no reason to defend Song of the South as the people mad about the change weren’t even alive when it came out, and most have not even seen it. Disney has been trying to erase that movie from its history because they were not proud of it; this ride was the last reminiscence of it.
Yeah, this was probably already on the drawing board and the internal discussions were around how much of a priority it was since they were already spending a lot of money on new Avengers Campus and Runaway Railway, not to mention all the attractions at WDW. The cultural awakening probably put everyone on the same page and it got priority and funding.
It was planned for years, they just announced it WAY quicker than they should have. I’m VERY CONCERNED princess and the frog will not get a good quality ride because they’ll rush this

They should turn the country bear restuarant into Tiana's Place since splash mountain isn't really gonna be about nature or the land of the South anymore, it'll be like a sit down restaurant sorta fancy but not as fancy as Blue Bayou, and easy to access. It'll serve the same things but adding more creole dishes. I'd kill to have some of her signature dishes that you wouldn't wouldn't be able to find anywhere else in the park. Just an idea!
I think that would be too big of a refurbishment. They would have to completely demolish Hungry Bear since it looks nothing like Tiana’s Place. But I do agree that Tiana’s Place needs to be a thing!

Ralph Brennan's ( JAZZ kitchen) and the Royal Street Veranda have been there for years! They serve gumbo and beignets, etc. Why on earth would they need four places serving the same food? That would be the epitome of overkill. It amuses me how many people seem to think that this movie invented beignets (and gumbo) when Café du Monde has been serving them since 1862! I am from Louisiana.

I'm quite happy with this retheme for Splash Mountain. The Princess and the Frog definitely does deserve a bigger spotlight in Disney parks. Plus, drawing more attention to Princess and the Frog could encourage the Disney company to finally make more traditional 2D hand-drawn animated films.
The segment when you're going up the lifthill before the big drop was perfect
I love Splash Mountain and was obsessed with Brer Rabbit and Song of the South growing up. I was too young to understand the complexity of the issue with the film. The idea of giving a CLASSIC ride like this a complete makeover to me is blasphemous. HOWEVER, I can TOTALLY get behind this concept! The music and theme works perfectly. I think Princess and the Frog is the only movie that could replace this ride and be even better than the original.
I just like that they brought Tony Baxter in to redo it. I think it'd be heresy without his input.

Really hoping they're aware of this video because this is a PERFECT way to do it. Though apparently the ride might be a whole new "adventure" for Tiana and friends. At any rate - YAY!

I love how in the lift and drop “friends on the other side” fits so well! From when he says “Yes!”, and the lift begins 5:27 to when he says “...Side!” and you go down 6:03. Sadly this takes place after the ending so we’re most likely not going to see this song. But the way it is pasted so perfectly into the ride makes it so realistic, Great Job!

I really hope Friends on the other side is the drop song. It fits so well. However, we might not get that bc Disney confirmed the story of the ride takes place after the movie. The story of the ride is everyone helping Tiana prepare for her first Mardi Gras

Understand fully imma miss it too but Walt always looked ahead there’s gonna be new rides we hate and new rides we love more memories and to share with our family in the future being able to say you went on it before it got changed.

This is genius. This is probably my favorite Disney movie so I'm a little bias but wow this came out better than I could have even imagined.
Splash mountain is totally separate from song of the south. Princess and the frog deserves a ground up attraction not a re-skin. Plus princess and the frog is inaccurate to the racism of the time in the south

He then profited off the stories with his popular book of them and never credited the slaves who told them to him. Disney then based the film and characters off that book and the film and ride itself are still profiting on these tales by white men who have no business profiting off them.

As Friends on the Other Side was going and I was vibing, I thought "imagine if they synced the ascent with the "YES ARE YOU READY" and then it happened and holy moley you even got the timing of the end with the drop! This is marvelous!

The layout should be this: beginning is where we are introduced with the New Orleans song. As we go up we are introduced to the fireflies. As you go inside the tunnel the next song from the video plays (I forgot it’s name). Then in the dark tunnels leading to the lift to the drop, tiana and the prince are chased by the shadows and the shadows are defeated by the top of the lift, finally ya drop into the bottom and enter the final room to see tiana and the prince getting married and getting their restaurant. Ngl guys, this change is gonna be phenomenal
What exactly is racist in the ride of Splash Mountain? Do the lyrics or music in the ride mention anything offensive? Following the logic, I am Mexican. So does the Grand Fiesta Tour need to be closed at Disney-world because it represent Mexicans with common symbols as sombreros, mariachis, and piñatas?

Yes the ride is based on a racial movie, but the actual ride isn't racist. People are being stupid and zipadeedoodah is such a classic song, it has a totally different meaning in the ride
I would love if right before the big drop it was a scene with Doctor Facilier and the song was a short version of "Are you ready?!" I honestly think it would be a lost opportunity if they didnt use it😂

I almost cried when I heard that they would be re-theming splash mountain because it was my favorite ride at the Disney parks but I am glad they picked a good movie, at first I thought princess and the frog didn’t fit in frontier land but then I see that splash mountain didn’t either. I love Princess and the Frog, but Splash Mountain is my all-time favorite ride!!! I think it would be better placed in New Orleans Square near that place that sells the yummy Tiana style Mickey binets or in Fantasyland along with the other fellow princess rides. It feels out of place there.

I personally think that the reskin of splash mountain to Princess and the Frog is a wonderful idea! It would work perfectly with the ride. Not to mention that not a lot people know the story of Splash Mountain or the original movie behind the ride anymore. But EVERYONE knows Princess and the Frog nowadays. So yes, let Disney change the ride. I'll miss Splash Mountain, but excited to see what Disney has in store for the change of the ride!

Honestly, having seen Song of the South, it's no worse of a movie than Gone With the Wind, and therefore should be no less available than that movie. Banning things doesn't solve any problems, and changing this ride would scrap pieces of history.

When you hear this, how can you NOT want an update? Not only is Princess and the Frog a more modern, progressive film that kids will better recognize (not many people have even seen song of the south or like it). BUT it also ties in a great New Orleans counterpart, you know, the Disney Land section this ride is RIGHT next too? It just makes so much sense. They redid Tower of Terror, why not just update this one as well? Makes more sense in drawing in younger crowds and is arguabley more recognizable beyond "that one ride at Disney.
And it fits so good! Go look at some concept art ideas people have, this ride hurts none with an update.
How about no? Splash Mountain is an all time classic that has been replicated at other Disney parks, and who gives a shit if kids don't recognize the characters? That's their fault, not Disney's. There is also nothing racist about Song of the South either. You need to realize that the only guests that matter are the purists and purists want Splash Mountain to stay and Princess and the Frog to never see the light of day. Not every Disney attraction has to be based on a pre-existing IP and nobody cares if some Disney movies are denied representation. As for Tower of Terror, I can tell you it will be coming back because Disney stands to lose Marvel when Congress breaks them up under antitrust and takes Marvel away.

Maybe in Disneyland it would be a good fit but it’s not the same at MK. I would prefer a separate ride or show in Fantasy land with the other princess’s and Tianas restaurant. Kind of like what they did with Beauty & the Beast.

I feel like the cave part would be a good part to do Going Down the Bayou since it is a dark area so they could easily do projections and screens for that part. However they shouldn't overuse the screens in the scene as they can also use lights and animatronics for possibly the characters going across the bayou with the fireflies.

I’m....actually really torn. I love the original Splash Mountain, I love THIS, and I have my OWN idea that I ALSO really love. Imo they could do one of these 3 things:
1) keep Splash Mountain the way it is, the original iconic Splash Mountain,
2) retheme it to Princess and the Frog and have it be like this, which, honestly, I don’t think would be as good as the original but it would be pretty damn close, or
3) my own idea that almost NO one has mentioned yet: take down the just-okay Winnie the Pooh ride that’s right next to Splash Mountain, take the Pooh animatronics you ALREADY HAVE, and instead of Song of the South, make the ride about Winnie the Pooh! It could even still be called splash mountain that way! They could put the heffalumps and woozles in the “everyone’s got a laughing place” scene, the big drop could be from the scene where the rain floods everyone’s houses, they could combine stuff from all the different movies in the franchise. If Splash Mountain HAS to change, I want them to change it to this:)

The premise of the movie was to glorify the life as a slave during the reconstruction era . Nothing is kid friendly about slavery and the movie made it seem like slavery wasn’t bad . Educate yourself 🥱

But it’s an iconic ride giving the wrong message to younger audiences. Whenever you search up where did splash mountain originate from, it’s going to say song of the south which is a movie that glorifies that being a slave is amazing. I know the ride is about the critters, but as you reach the end , it’s the dong zippy-dee-doo-da which derives from ‘zippy coon’ which is based off of African American stereotypes.

FeverishGlobe43 actually people do know about it’s past. People have done the research. Also it’s technically promoting racism because one of the ceos, I think Michael E. decided to add the characters to promote Song Of The South. You should look more into the history of those characters and the storyline behind it.

Retheming will happen more at DCA, we're landlocked. DCA 1.0 was a joke, so Cal locals need new ENTERTAINMENT, best way to keep things fresh for a low cost, and still pull 'em in.
Thats totally different since California screamin never had a story it was a roller coaster on boardwalk. Splash mountain the rid fits everything from song of the south to change it to something else wouldn't make any sense which means they'd have to change the entire ride.
