I wish you could post more plant care videos. you mention really helpful things unlike a lot of other plant youtubers that seem like a broken record and mention the same repetitive tips again and again like: bright indirect light, water when first two inches are dry, it's better to underwater plants and these sort of things that we all know. I don't care if you're not speaking of a plant which is not as lush as your Micans. talking about your experiences even with a plant that is struggling at the moment can be helpful too
Awesome video Charmaine! You hit it out of the ballpark! I'm pretty sure you and Alice and Fern are my 3 favorite TH-camrs 💚💚💚 Yay Canada 🇨🇦😄 Ps. I'm American 🙂
i have two micans, one that is in a more diffused light situation and one that has been directly in an east facing window for several months, and i literally just pulled the one that had been in the window into a shadier spot two days ago bc i wasnt enjoying the sun stressed look. i had definitely noticed some of that leaf damage on mine that you pointed out, and im fairly certain its not from pests, so i am glad for the showering/bathing tip. thanks for the video 🥰
I have one on my balcony and will not cut it until it hits my living room floor. I used to be cheap and would purchase cuttings and all died. I invested in two over priced plants from Etsy that died. Finally found an awesome grower. The plant was right below the pot, now it is at least 6 feet long. I also tried to make it climb, and it didn't do well at all but I also didn't use a moss pole. Nice and informative vid, and yes, they love showers. I tend to leave it outside in the rain, or fertilize it and allow it to get sun sun stress it since the colors are gorgeous.
Received my micans in soil, it’s roots would die. I’d prop it, put it back in soil (with drainage) it’s roots would die, on and on. Started experimenting with PON for hoyas and when my micans developed enough roots, thought, what the heck? And tried the micans in PON. Perfect combination! You are right on with that advice! Just potted up my second pot of micans in PON in self watering pot. I started using cal-mag after watching you and Alice. Love your channel, Charmaine! Hope you are having a great time with your family in US.
@@single_use_planet_ I think they started in like a week and really good at 2 weeks. And I had tried to root them in a glass of water and no luck! Super cool :)
Thank you! Love this. I immediate put my Micans in the sink and gave it a little spray down followed by a hair cut. Also, thanks for explaining the spotting.
I have literally learned more in just five minutes of your video than many other plant videos I have seen. You are so thorough and knowledgeable! Also, you're adorable but I noticed you don't feel the need to try to impress people with unnecessary "cuteness" that often comes off fake. You are straight to the facts! I just bought my second micans (killed the first one - lack of knowledge about plants) but this video was so helpful for micans lovers!❤
I loved that you put the correct species name in the title. Thank you for all the tips 🙏 I'm considering propagating mine and I'm thankful for the useful information.
Wow, wow and WOW, plant video of the year goes to you!!! I have to say I have watched thousands of plant videos and found this one to be the most real, natural, genuine and informative! Ironically enough I have been searching for tips on Micans (the universe knows) as ALL 3 of mine recently turned out with black spots and turned pink, flimsy and falling off easily, I think it's from underwatering and also moved them away from the cold winter window in Boston, I am hoping to save it by chopping it, do you think even after 70% of its leaves doing this the plant still has a chance? Again, AMAZING video and wish you all the success, we hope to see more videos like this, cheers! 💦🌱💫
Super helpful! Ive been dealing with so much spotting on ny newer leaves and couldn't get a clear answrr anywhere on what was happening (no signs of pests!). Thank you so much!
The leaves definitely turn orange/red when sun stressed and is kind of cool because it reminds me of Fall but I'd personally take the lower light dark green leaves. I can tell the one I have that gets blasted by a grow light and is sun stressed isn't as healthy as the ones grown under lower light.
This was a wonderful video - such a wealth of information and your inspirational P. micans falls in a magnificent cascade of shimmery green and black leaves! Bravo!!
I have one of mine in a very dark room and the leaves are almost black 😍🥰 My big one just got a chop cause it was 9 ft long. They're the easiest best plant
this is so helpful bc I'm currently trying to rehab my micans! I've been so scared to get the leaves wet thinking they'd melt so the shower tip is super interesting!! thank u!
Sun stressed????? I've been plucking the leaves cause I thought they were weird dead 😭😭 gonna put it in a darker spot for sure... Glad to see someone else constantly fertilize in small amounts, no way in hell I could keep track of which one already got some I put most of my ppants in pure perlite with diluted fertilizer water, they seem to do much better cause I'm a bad overwaterer and they keep rotting... When I chop to make the plant fuller I can just stick it right back into it no? Since it's just perlite?
Very helpful! As I was watching this, a mican strand got caught in my hair and the entire basket came toppling down on my bathroom floor. Now I’m trying to figure out how to keep it secured on the top of a shelf! 😅
Thank you so much, a very useful video 😊 I love my micans and I have been struggling as she had Thrip’s! I do chop my Neon Pothos and that certainly is a lot fuller💚
This was sooooo informative. THANK YOU! Mine has a few leaves turning orange. Plus its not really getting bigger. I was worried! I think the combo of waiting to long to water and using a grow light is my problem. I was also wondering how pon would work. You answered all of my questions.
I had a thrips infestation on my long vines micans 😢 I had to repot and chop and treat my plant and it now looks very sad.. I’m keeping it separate from my others for now but the leaves look very dehydrated. Any tips to help it bounce back?
Your constant NAGGING about the Micans makes me really want to focus on mine for 2023 but of course I overwatered it before the holidays so we’re not off to the best start.. I’m thinking of seeing if it will recover on its own. Usually I’d repot but she’s a pretty hardy plant and I feel like the damage is done at this point since I was away for the holidays. ANYWHO this was a super fun upload and I. Sure I’ll reference it when I grow the balls to transfer my micans to semi hydro 😂
I loved my micans. They had gotten really long and then started dying. When I took a closer look at them I realized they had thrips really bad. I ended up losing it to thrips. I want to get another one and will someday. Your micans are so beautiful.
My micans gets thrips more often than any other plant in my collection. Not sure why. I get thrips almost every year and it usually starts on my micans.
@@SuperUsername147 That's not a hopeful thought. I guess if I get another plant, then I should go ahead and use thrip preventative starting in spring though the fall or quarantine them during that time period. Thank you for the heads up. Better planning on my part.
@@zandrawostel3765 I’ve heard thrips can be attracted to velvet leaf philodendron. I don’t mean to be a downer though. Keeping your plant as healthy as possible will prevent any pest infestations. Pests are attracted to the stress signals that plants send out when they aren’t receiving the care that they need. My micans tend to get thrips when I’m being more neglectful.
I had one similar to yours. I had chopped it back several times, repotted it once. Then I repotted it one more time, didnt even manipulate the roots at all, and the roots just all rotted. Im not really sure why. So now I have a few propagations left 🥲

you have given the best explanation for leaves not unfurling that I have seen to date.
Would you please elaborate again about what kind of soil to use for my mican.

Thanks for the advice. My Micans is trailing and has grown to trailing on my bed; I just pinned it up but I’m going to trim it to get that full look.
This video provided so much helpful information! Not just for micans, but for house plants in general. Well done!
This came in so handy and at perfect timing!!! My BFF just gave me a newly potted up cutting and I want to do the best for it!!!💚🐶💚Thank you❤❤❤
I tried your 2 cup method for the micans and Philodendron Brandi. It was a huge success. Love it Thanks

I bought calmag at your rec and it helped a lot with chlorosis on my micans 😊

How long did it take to get roots for you?

That trailing Micans has always been my favorite, then the Rhipsalis collection💚💚💚💚LOVE YOUR CHANNEL
You’re a great teacher! I enjoyed watching this video… With one of my absolute favorite house plants! Thank you for sharing your beautiful plant!
Thank you! Love this. I immediate put my Micans in the sink and gave it a little spray down followed by a hair cut. Also, thanks for explaining the spotting.
I started my micans on a lazy pole, but I might just let it trail after this. ❤️

What kind of soap are you using ?
Mine only pushes out tiny leaves with normal internodes…. Regardless of watering and feeding. Thoughts??
