Fell into a trade for a motovox mbx10. Got it running after about a half hour fiddling with the carb and figured out THE BREATHER GASKET was in the wrong place and that plastic spacer wasn’t where it should be. Decided to look up videos on it and what do you know, you guys have a video for it. Ike, John, Charles, you guys are awesome and have been a big inspiration for me. Sorry if you seen this late as this is a old video, but If you punch a whole in the crank case you could use alumabond, or something else, worked well for my predator so far its been going strong for about 2 months
I really like how cheap and easy it is to work on these small engines compared to cars. If you mess up shaving a head on a car that's an expensive mistake! But on this small stuff it's no big deal. What an awesome way to learn about engines. I'm wondering about that head shave that you guys did. It increases compression. But there is no computer or knock sensor. So what happens if there is too much compression? Would you hear the detonation if it started to happen? Maybe it was knocking but you couldn't hear it and it needed higher test gas to be faster? Very interesting build guys.
fyi most of these small engines have a compression release built into the intake cam lobe. the intake valve doesn't seat proper until the piston is halfway up the compression stroke. this is why a lot of the time the intake valve is all bunked up
you dont have to remove the internal governor parts, it's only a centrifugal actuator that limits the carb throw with the lever, just remove the lever to the carb
I watched part 1 and 2 and thoroughly enjoyed the videos. I over milled an old Briggs head a long time ago but just made some spacers out of aluminum flashing and hi-temp sealant and it ran again. Sort of. Not sure about the OHV's but all things being equal once sh!t is broke it can't get any broker?! NY (especially Long Island) sux for motorsports. I took a pocket bike on an icy death ride and patrol cars were all over like a bank got robbed. Keep up the good work. If stuff don't break you're not trying hard enough.

Then Bridgehampton Race Circuit closed down where the Trans Am series and SCCA were popular. Then WestHampton Dragway / Long Island Motorsports Park shut down which was a combined 1/4 mile dragstrip, motocross track and go cart track in one spot. And now there is talk that Riverhead raceway might close down even though it is one of NASCARS oldest tracks (above the Mason-Dixon line) and long considered a sacred cow to them. NO POLITICAL RANT, but: keep the gasoline powered mayhem alive! Its a downhill slope that will NEVER come back around. Guys like y'all have my full support. BE WELL!!!

I have one of these but its a 105 cc. The problem with it is that it revs up and has a lot of torque in the low end, but then once you gain speed you just lose all of that and it decides that it doesn't feel like revving anymore no matter how much throttle you give it, so it only really goes up to 20-25, though I know it could make 30-40 if it was actually revving right, I'm pretty sure it's the governor but Idk.
mine did 32 easily with just a new throttle spring, just quickly swapped the engine for my friends 212 and we had to add a link, while that engine was on we started to work on the 79 cc and now we swapped it back to get the top end I wanted. Now we are making an exhaust out of a heavy duty steel pipe my teacher let me have. we couldn't bend it unless we used the oxide torch to get it to 1000 degrees so we just did the angle cut idea and we just welded the smaller piece of pipe to the flange. Just have to angle the other pipe and weld it up and it'll be done. Aiming for 38 mph
CarsandCameras when shaving the head you should have also shaved the block and you guys should have shaved the back side of the exhaust camshaft lobe the exhaust valve doesn't close all the way until the piston is over half way done with the compression stroke and shaving the back side of the lobe the valve will close sooner giving it more compression
just put a 120MM turbo on it. all it needs, and put some racing tires on it. also add some racing stripes they add 5 HP. then maybe you will get 450 HP out of that bike it will still be slow though. and nice corvette what year?
justin bouche Yeah I was all for turbos and NOS and underglo- I mean 100 octane fuel, but Ike thought it was a bad idea to do that and have the engine grenade on us doing 30 miles an hour. And the Vette is an '06. It belongs to my dad, it was actually in my first video ever... I've tried to be less pretentious with my videos since then. It has 19k miles and he bought it in '08 with like 17k... It doesn't get out much.

Hi, i have the same mini bike, a monster moto, and im wondering if i can reverse the clutch? (Place it on the engine on the opposite side) so that the chain is more near the engine, is it ok to do this to this specific engine?

My nephew just got one of these bikes. He took the governor out but is now trying to figure out the throttle setup. Did u guys leave the governor arm in after gear removal or how do you run it straight to carburetor. Thanks and your videos are awesome.
Hey carsandcameras, I got big news for you. I had a similar mini bike like you with the same engine and I figured out how to u govern it WITHOUT VOIDING THE WARRENTY Step 1: take a piece of metal wire Step 2: loop metal wire around governor arm and the throttle linkage on the bottom of the engine Step 3: that's it Optional: there is a throttle set screw on the throttle linkage. I removed it and I went faster without messing with the governor, I got a lot of throttle range like a dirt bike
Do the others you'll be doin 35+mph. Downhill is a totally different story. 40+ I think. Right now I got a motorized bicycle with no governor that I know of, just don't overheat it, it's just chinese
Umm may i say that there is actually another way the is a screw that you take out to let the throttle open even more i have one of these and it made it some much faster i've notice your screw on your was still factor set
to benefit from the shaved head higher octane gas would've helped. also porting the intake and exhaust ports might've made a difference more than shaving the head. I know a guy that can double any small engines power for under 50$ including his labor. there are tons of tuning ideas. I personally like swapping bigger carb or even running dual carbs.
+James Godwin i looked into porting and polishing the head. the intake runner does a 90 turn in the head. its a poor design and didnt think it was worth messing with it
Don’t underestimate the power of this 2 horse. I used my bike to tow a 100 lb wagon with a 180 lb man and a 200 lb woman. Plus with me on the bike and the bike’s own weight. Slow on start but gets to 10 mph eventually on flat ground with that weight. Lol 😂 True story though.
I married a 8hp briggs flathead carb and intake onto a briggs 6.5hp Intek OHV and with a little bit of tuning of the idle and high speed needles she fired right up and SCREAMS. She shoots blue flames from idle to valve float and revs out faster than I have ever heard. pretty much the moment I hit the throttle it revs out, ZERO hesitation. The briggs, Honda and predator are all the same correct? I bet this mod would kill the motorcycle carb or jetting the carbs on the predator. I have not attached it to a kart yet but it sounds like it will be an ANIMAL. You may want to try this on a predator, just remember where the idea came from! lol

There is no need to remove the governor from a stock engine.. Why? Because the engine will only rev 500-1000rpm more than if it would if you would have left the governor intact, and youre risking blowing a piece of hot metal into your calf. Remove the throttle-stop bolt thats on the throttle mechanism on the engine. If you had a Predator 212cc with a "hot" cam, then you would need to remove the governor to allow the engine to rev to 7000+rpm. Im running a bone stock Predator 212cc with free mods (bored out jet, bored intake box etc.) that revs to 6000rpm with the governor intact but the throttle-stop screw removed. Even if I removed the gov, it would only rev to about 6500rpm do to limitations of the stock valvetrain springs. Mod smarter my friend!

And to your other comment, we spent under two dollars doing all of the modifications. That was for the intake, header, carb jet, shaved head, and governor. So doing free mods to this small engine was in a way like putting makeup on a pig, but the makeup was free. And we figured we'd share the results. As far as a Predator goes, keep your pants on. It's on the way. Do you have a mini bike with a Predator? If so, how fast is it?
If you throw a predator 212 in that thing (no governor) what top speeds will it hit? Also, have you ever bought a performance intake? Do they really increase top speed enough to want to spend the money on it?
you know you guys only added RPM upgrades in this video? yea the header might have changed the horse power but not a lot.... Nos OR Hydrogen injected would increase it big time!
With that much removed from the head, I'd be checking the valve-piston clearance at full-lift with a piece of clay. And go with a shorter reach spark-plug, if not also indexing it. In short: Doing the math first, and following a blueprint afterwards. Otherwise, all done would truly be for nothing... Like reworking the heads--minus shaving--along with bolting a bunch of hot parts & installing a big camshaft an engine with low compression. Without all the elements there, there is nothing gained & much lost.
Isaac it'll be fine Judging by the heart-shaped chamber, it looks meant for good low-end... Something that'd be desirable with a little work-horse engine. But then looking at that odd turn made in the exhaust-port and what a large, open-chamber the combustion area is, I guess it's no surprise that the results were lack-luster.
How many pulls did it take to start the bike after removing the governor ? My friend and I removed all of it and the bike won't start now, I pulled like ten times, everything was tightened again nothing fell out, would drill start maybe work ?
+Manuel Rivas In our experience, when we remove the governors they're just as easy to start. Modifying the intake/exhaust/carb jet is usually when it gets more difficult to start.
+Manuel Rivas I juuuust finished following this video and removing the govenor. Same thing, i pulled like 15 times before i looked up and went oh shit... the bikes was in the "OFF" position. Turned it to "ON" and boom it started right up, and now its at leeeeast 25% faster. Sometimes its the small dumb things you forget at the end of a job. Thanks for the video CarsandCameras couldnt have done it without this as i couldnt find anything else on youtube that was legit.

For my engine I just got vice grips and folded the governed got a crow but but some towels between the Crow bar and the casing and just pulled it out

next build you should get a bunch of high performance parts from gopowersports and do a complete predator rebuild.

If you throw a predator 212 in that thing (no governor) what top speeds will it hit?
Also, have you ever bought a performance intake? Do they really increase top speed enough to want to spend the money on it?

What is the diameter of the motor shaft?
I believe this one is 5/8". Larger engines like the 212 use 3/4". The predator 420 is 1".

With that much removed from the head, I'd be checking the valve-piston clearance at full-lift with a piece of clay. And go with a shorter reach spark-plug, if not also indexing it. In short: Doing the math first, and following a blueprint afterwards. Otherwise, all done would truly be for nothing... Like reworking the heads--minus shaving--along with bolting a bunch of hot parts & installing a big camshaft an engine with low compression. Without all the elements there, there is nothing gained & much lost.

Isaac it'll be fine Judging by the heart-shaped chamber, it looks meant for good low-end... Something that'd be desirable with a little work-horse engine. But then looking at that odd turn made in the exhaust-port and what a large, open-chamber the combustion area is, I guess it's no surprise that the results were lack-luster.

How many pulls did it take to start the bike after removing the governor ? My friend and I removed all of it and the bike won't start now, I pulled like ten times, everything was tightened again nothing fell out, would drill start maybe work ?
+Manuel Rivas In our experience, when we remove the governors they're just as easy to start. Modifying the intake/exhaust/carb jet is usually when it gets more difficult to start.
+Manuel Rivas you didnt take out the cam did you? when we did our mods i put a gasket on wrong on the carb and it didnt want to run rite
I got a brand new predator and tried breaking it in but all i got was backfire twice, it didnt even start

+Manuel Rivas I juuuust finished following this video and removing the govenor. Same thing, i pulled like 15 times before i looked up and went oh shit... the bikes was in the "OFF" position. Turned it to "ON" and boom it started right up, and now its at leeeeast 25% faster. Sometimes its the small dumb things you forget at the end of a job. Thanks for the video CarsandCameras couldnt have done it without this as i couldnt find anything else on youtube that was legit.
