This brings back memories. After a nasty collision with a car executing a badly timed farm equipment pass and 3 months in the hospital after the fact, I found myself with a DT 250 Yamaha motorcycle engine needing a new frame to reside in. The most likely available candidate was my old farm Kart who's old B&S 5hp engine had given up the ghost long ago. After some primitive grade school level welding and fabrication the dependeble 250 engine fit in the old kart like a 454 chevy big block in a chevette. Surprizingly the karts simple brakes did actually work in this case, it just took them a bit longer than usual to bring the rig to a halt at higher speeds, a minor problem easily overcome by careful calculation of stopping distance and avoiding tight situations. Questionably legal highway testing of the machines capabilities demonstrated it was capable of speeds well exceeding 80 mph,, however that apparently was beyond the capabilities of the original knobby tires to attain and sustain. Upon acquiring 'racing kart slicks' promised to hold together at such speeds it was back to more performance testing. During one such test it was discovered the hot rod kart was capable of eluding the wrath of a highway patrol officer, due more to its ability to fit through a narrow walk path gateway than speed. After that close call with the law later roadway excursions were kept to local gravel roadways where the kart was discoverd to have an uncanny ability to drift through corners like a W.R.C. pro. Alas all this fun came to a sudden end during one such drifting demostration when unnoticed fatigue in the old kart frame finally caused a catastrophic break in the frames main rails just behind the seat resulting in a parting of trajectory by the occupant and the powerplant and drivetrain. The drivers portion came to a skidding halt in the ditch with only minor bruises and scratches and a nasty rash from questionable ditch weeds encountered during the excursion. The Powerplant free'd from the burden of pushing said operator and the forward structure of the kart around suddenly went into a screaming WOT setting upon the throttle cable being ripped out of the top of the carb jamming the slide into a wide open position. Due to the majority of the weight now residing behind the engine/transmission assembly the dragging subframe kept the drive wheels down and heading down the road until it wandered off into the ditch, tumbled then went flying screaming like a banshee and spinning wildly until it contacted the ground with excessive enough force to damage the engine beyond repair. Needless to say that was the end of that wild ride, and i'm probably alive to tell it's story due to it's demise truth be known.

In 1972 my friend and I had a real nice tube framed go kart with no engine, but we had a Yamaha RD350 two stroke twin with a wrecked frame so we installed the RD 350 onto the go kart frame rigged the shifter by a linkage to the left pedal and welded a top hook to that pedal so you could up shift and down shift easily, the right front pedal became the brake…good for one application of stopping every 1 minutes or longer… the brake was a small drum attached to the live rear axle, the steering wheel was a half wheel like the newer Tesla’s, the clutch was the same as on a regular motorcycle lever and the throttle was off a motocross RR with just a quarter turn to full throttle… so incredibly fast and all rigged systems worked perfectly… even the single small drum brake worked great… under 20 mph 😳 !!! We didn’t really know how fast it was, because when we passed cars on the beltway around Washington DC in Maryland and we could not stop other than downshifting , we got scared…that at the ages of 18 that was as far as we were going to get in life ! When a Montgomery County Police officer got us on radar at 76 mph at 1:00am on a Sunday morning with no lights, (we did have a full moon), encouraged us to get rid of that thing before we got hurt badly or killed… no tickets if we promised to sell it within two weeks and he would not tell our parents. I recognize that motor, you'll need the stock air box from the cb750 to make the vacuum operated carb rail work properly. Got a replacement motor from someone's project lawn mower to put back in my bike for cheap because it wouldn't run right without the air filter box 👍

This go-kart exists because of all the videos of people building stuff with things they "have lying around" that just happen to be the perfect thing for what they're doing. So then somebody sees it and says, "that looks easy, and I have all those things just lying around." Even if you're doing something without buying stuff off the shelf and making whatever it is you need. It still costs money to do. You can't put something together with the intention of going fast for free, and expect it to be safe. Everything those people have "lying around" were paid for at some point. Doesn't mean it was completely free. Everything costs money to do, even if you're not buying the exact part for what you need. If you don't know what you're doing, don't do it or just buy the exact thing you need to make it work. There's no in between. Unless you're really that eager to get hurt very badly
FYI, carbs do not like running without some type of air resistance on the intake side because it changes the venturi effect, so running without filters will screw up the ratio. Also, 2 with filters and 2 without will cause synchronization issues between the carbs/cylinders.
Better than the one my friend and I bought for $200 in 1969. Ours had kitchen sink pipes for exhaust. The first time I took off on it the brakes fell off. Had a 350cc 2 stroke motorcycle engine. My mother was not happy.
Hey man, I´m starting to ride at 25 years and I ´m looking for an affordable (ca. 5.000€) sporty bike which ist also comfortable for longer rides. In Germany, a Ninja 400 is too expensive (6.000-7000€) but for around 4.000-5.000€ i could get my hands on an (2010-2015) ER-6f. Would you recommend this bike for a beginner/in general or should i get something else?
That's crazy man... Back in my highschool daze ('69) a couple of guys put a Kawasaki Blue Streak 500cc engine, no tranny or clutch on a kart. Push to start. When it started they claimed it did a wheelie (never saw that myself). Glad as least some people didn't grow up and become sensible.
I love that REPSOL CBR. I saw it in a shop near me in Philly. I wanted to get it but then I thought about how if I want my bike to stand out that much I'd rather have a custom paint job. It does look sick tho.
Other than the fact it's held together by electrical tape, doesn't turn and can't stop, I think it's a fine high quality go kart!
Won't go and speed wobbles if it does too
Perfect for any kids aged 4-8

He said "I've never seen that look of fear before on his face" 😆 💀
I am so glad you tried to make it better. That is the fun and challenge.
FYI, carbs do not like running without some type of air resistance on the intake side because it changes the venturi effect, so running without filters will screw up the ratio. Also, 2 with filters and 2 without will cause synchronization issues between the carbs/cylinders.
"You DO NOT have my blessing" 🤣
That's one meth up kart.
The camera woman was locked in give her a raise lol
Lol, these 2 in the van getting the go cart are giving me American picker vibes. They look the part, too.😆
God bless u and 37 Harley 1:30
Better than the one my friend and I bought for $200 in 1969. Ours had kitchen sink pipes for exhaust. The first time I took off on it the brakes fell off. Had a 350cc 2 stroke motorcycle engine. My mother was not happy.
Dude Craig always puts the biggest smile on my face
Should be called something like “life insurance” 😂 nice video!!
A Grind hard plumbing collab would be nice too see. They do really good work.
Zip ties and meth 😂😂😂😂😂. You tried to slide that one by, but that comment was gold sir.
I love Craigs channel!! Epic. And yall should redo the go cart. Seems like it has... promise? Or something close to it.
"Runs on meth and food stamps" comment was gold 😂👏
I died at “I’m pretty sure that thing runs on meth and food stamps”.
11:00 OMG! That was Epic!
😂😂😂😂 a pile of parts on wheels😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤ priceless
Well, can't wait to see it again when you have it running better. I've seen a Suzuki 1300 Hayabusa run all through town and passed a cop
I subscribed to Craig's channel. He needs lots more video's!
"How did you drive it without brakes on?!"
"Very carefully!"
Sean’s taking this super Mario skit way too seriously. Lol
I would love to see this cart rebuilt into something awesome.
Is this really how the bearded mechanic started? Lol I love craigs videos
This video is an example of why having a solid audio engineer makes all the difference. This video….obviously they did not
