    • DEMOLITION HAMMER (Us)...
For me this song is one of the best (if not the best) examples of "deathrash" - mixture of death and thrash metal at its' finest. I remember I heard this song from radio show back when "epidemic of violence" had just been released and I was instantly amazed. It wasn't the first time I heard the band, I had heard some songs from "tortured existence" but it was bit like Cadaver's debut ("hallucinating anxiety"), some good tunes, otherwise didn't impress me that much ... and then the exact opposite story with sophomore / second album, which blew my mind. When it comes to Demolition Hammer's second album, everything was perfect; songwriting, riffs, production, vocals, drums. Extra point to drums, since back then I kind of "dreamed" about death metal with "constant (emphasis on word constant) double bass drumming going on, snare being hit on a slow tempo, not blasts all the time" - hard to put it into words, but it was about utilisation of power of double bass drumming. Check out for example the section beginning from 1min 39sec - talk about power! Few songs (not just one) on the album are prime examples of that kind of thing. This opening song "skull fracturing nightmare" is one of them. Sure many other bands were advancing with double bass drumming in those days too, Death leading the way (with "human"), with bunch of bands following, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Master (with especially Aaron Nickeas on drums) etc etc etc. Not saying Demolition Hammer did something exceptional there, but what they did, they did expeptionally well.
And hey, just check out how the DH guys are still kicking ass these days, these old tunes sound even more powerful if possible and the guys play with passion. Outstanding, really. I sure hope they'd record new album ...
And interestingly when I edited this DH video, I was amazed how they played this song in 1992 bootleg like exactly on the album. It was jaw dropping to notice I hardly had to adjust timings in this old liveclip when I switched the studio track playing on background. This livecip is played exceptionally close to studio track, really amazing in itself.
If you enjoy good old deathrash, take a deep breath and let this gem of a deathrash tune sink in.
    Enjoy!
