anyone else's heart stop when he paused it for the first time right before her epic genre-switch-up was about to happen? lol first time i really listened to her was this song too and that whole beginning part and the switch-up totally blew my mind. she can do rock and classic country with epicness. in the beginning of that song she went from perfect nostalgic classic country of patsy cline and intensity of johnny cash right to janis joplin and edgy rock with such skill and soul. and then of course everyone's favorite golden note ('accidental break') in the second half of the song, blows Everyone's minds
I think she shocks everybody who listens to her for the first time. She is a storyteller and voice well beyond her years.

Welcome to the Bramily! She crosses many different genres of music but is usually described as Americana/singer-songwriter, but you can clearly see she crosses into rock and definitely, on some songs, more Country vibes. To truly appreciate them (Brandi Carlile is technically the name of the band and includes twins Phil and Tim Hanseroth on guitar and bass) you need to hear them live. That voice she has literally blows people away when they hear it's not studio magic that creates that power and beauty. She’d be classified as Americana (which encompasses a lot of the genres you mentioned, country, folk, rock, etc.) Brandi and the Twins (bass and guitar players) are phenomenal songwriters, Phil who is one of the twins actually wrote this song…and Brandi’s voice is simply AMAZING! I’ve seen her live a couple of times and she sounds just as good. You should listen to “The Eye” to hear their beautiful three part harmonies, or one of my personal favs “Raise Hell” to hear the power and grit of her voice. They’re super underrated because as she’s said herself they don’t make music that has mainstream appeal. And because of that they don’t get played on country radio, they don’t necessarily fit the mold of “what country artist should be” which is really just unfortunate IMO.
My sister insisted I check out Brandi Carlisle. She knows how much I appreciate truly exceptional vocals (like PTX, Home Free, VoicePlay for examples). Back to Brandi... My very first song was The Story. Wow. The first unexpected belt near the beginning that surprises you and grabs your attention (I call it "the little belt")... the perfectly applied 'yodels' and vocal frys... the fantastic voice quality. Her runs. Then the second BELT (I call it the 'AC/DC mixed with Janis Joplin belt') I was hooked! She's just great!! Travis, thanks for the great (as always) reaction! I don't know what SHE classifies her music as, but THIS piece is a fusion of singer/songwriter, rock, folk, and a hint of country (not too much). What doknow!!??

I call her singer/songwriter, but others call her folk rock. I've been a huge fan of hers for almost 2 decades. She's amazing. Check out The Highwomen, a group she formed in 2019.
She is genuinely one of the most talented people on the planet. She is even better live.

This is why I watch reaction videos. You only get to experience a new song once - then you have to get everyone else you know to share in that first time listen. I’ve been jamming to this for like 15 years and I’m still amazed by the harnessing of the vocals.
If you haven’t seen her live in concert, it’s a must see!
When you paused before she transitioned in the first verse, i about died laughing! Then your face when she hit that growl and the brothers came in with the backup vocals, that put me over. I have been laughing for about 10 minutes.
This original version of "The Story" is 16 years old. Give a listen to the version she performed on Saturday Night Live in January. BC's voice has matured, becoming stronger and more rich in the intervening years. BTW, she DID right "The Story" along with her writing partner and bandmate, bassist Phil Hanseroth. Phil and his brother, Tim, BC's lead guitarist, have been playing and writing together for over 20 years.

She reminds me of Melissa Ethridge / Sheryl Crow. She is sooooooooooo talented writing songs, singing songs, playing multiple instruments and her colabs with other artists have turned them into grammy winners. When you get the chance to her Tanya Tucker's award winning song (recent history) Flowers, Brandi is playing the piano and co wrote the song. Great reaction

I love watching Brandi Carlile reaction videos because I love all three of them so much, and this is my fave so far. His reactions are priceless! I love introducing people to them, it gives me joy to hear coworkers or friends tell me they’ve become fans too. You gotta check out some of her live performances, she's absolutely phenomenal.
A few suggestions for you, but all her stuff is excellent: The Joke (live at the Grammys), The Things I Regret (Live at Red Rocks), The Eye (amazing 3 part harmony with the Twins, the music video is excellent), her cover of Murder in the City (gives me goosebumps). There's more I wanna say, but that's a good start.

It's Country/Americana. She isn't mainstream Nashville which is why you wouldn't hear her on country radio. Back in the day she would have been called Alt-Country (think Lucinda Williams and Ron Sexsmith).

she can't be pigeon holed. She's folk, rock, pop, and more. She's the best. Only singer/songwriter that I will get on a plane to go see. Her band is made up of her and two guys (twins Phil and Tim Hanseroth).
