    Incredible work
    I was very impressed to see how beautiful the cage came out despite the use of used wood

    You did a good job with that junk of wood available to you. I too have rabbits and I love caring for them.

    Another thing to add to the cage are resting mats so they don't get sore hocks from the wire ;) I've been breeding for 3 years and started out with New Zealands and the same wire mesh floor you have, unfortunately within the first year the welding started to come apart and saged in places. Ended up upgrading to 1" x 1/2" 16 gauge wire and its holding up amazing! Best of luck in your new journey!

      @katrinacryer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Yes unfortunately we are already having those issues with the flooring wire. I'll be upgrading it soon. Where do you find the mats? I've used peices of cardboard or scrap wood but they always destroy them.

      @@katrinacryer I get plastic ones off of Amazon that have holes for the poo to fall through. They are super easy to clean and have two little tabs on each end that hook under the wire so the rabbits can't move them around!

      @pinehavenacres 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@katrinacryer Also I don't know if you've come across this yet but I've been putting my wire on the underside of the hutch (with fence staples that you hammer in) so that the rabbits don't pee on the wood in the corners.

      Just watched your video about transforming a chicken coop into a rabbit area. Unfortunately your comments are turned off since your videos are made for kids. Looks awesome though! Did you use anything to water proof the floor?

      Yeah I need to figure out the whole editing and uploading thing lol
      I used a waterproof paint on the floor when the coop was first built.

    Im sorry but Where are they going to sleep? They cannot can't sleep in that Or just go around That can destroy their feet because of
    the fence

      “Sore hocks are caused by several things, none of which are from a GOOD CLEAN wire floor. They can be genetic but more often is caused by flimsy or rusted, wet or dirty floors where feces has been allowed to accumulate or something as simple as a rabbit that thumps at every sound.
      Rescue organizations have found rabbits living in filth in wire cages and those rabbits have often had sore hocks and the assumption was that it was caused by the wire floor. What caused the sore hocks was the build up of manure left wet by urine. When fur gets wet and soiled the fur develops a fungus that peels the fur away from the foot leaving it open to become infected. Rusty floors, even if kept clean can result in sore hocks from the constant abrasion and consequently infection.” Barbi Brown

    Rabbits are pretty easy to care for. You’ve made very versatile cages. The mom with babies will have plenty room for them to grow and be comfortable.

      @Vanessa Ullrich Caines Hi, I don’t think you are rude, you have your opinion. Here is mine, I have found rabbits to be pretty easy as to time and space required to care for them. We had other small livestock; lambs, pigs and chickens and family pets. We had good healthy pedigreed show rabbits. We purchased this type of rabbit because breeders of show rabbits usually have spent time to minimize unwanted traits in their stock. This could range from body type, things that would be considered disqualifications, ie malocclusion of the teeth, deformations due to genetics etc. I hope you find enjoyment in the time and care you give your rabbits.

    This upsets me, no bedding, nowhere for them to hide, no enrichment, nothing to chew on. And so little space, they need a run. Rabbits need to run, hop and binky. And just a wire floor for their little feet 😢

    Hay rack to high and holes far to small.
    Drip bottles not good just use a bowl for there water.
    Cage is a good size but no sleeping shelter filled with straw bedding.

    Do you think raccoons can get into this hutch? Or is it pretty stable?

    • @katrinacryer
      @katrinacryer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I built this about 2 years ago now and it has held up well. Just make sure to use heavy duty staples, I didn't as a beginner builder and had to go back and reinforce it with better ones. Also make sure to use a raccoon proof latch and you may need to zip tie on your feeders so they can't pop them off and get through the opening.

    How many pallets did this take?

    • @katrinacryer
      @katrinacryer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used 1 full pallet plus 4 2x3x8s and a couple of scrap 1x1s for the door and framing the front. But if you build it completely out of pallets you would need 3 (mainly for the studs).
