A lot of great tips here. What I've been doing a lot lately is dressing up the outside of builds with those simple details, especially things like storage, benches, leaf blocks, and flowers. A bit of that really does go a long way.
I just love the way you present this game. I like the way you encourage everyone's creativity. I copied some of the buildings you proposed and stopped two weeks ago and started looking to build my own ideas. I waited without knowing that I needed to see such an episode to continue building. There is a lot of work and dedication in all your videos and I want to thank you sincerely for the opportunity to follow you.
I know this is super late but I've been going through his videos looking for inspiration and the exact same thing happened to me. I built a couple things he did and afterwards decided to build some stuff in creative and got so many ideas and I've been building stuff ever since. I stopped playing the game for a while and now since I've been watching old stuff and trying new things out the ideas are happening like crazy
I wasn't expecting to learn anything from this video since I'm an intermediate builder who already knows all the basics, but here we are! There are some really good tips in here that go beyond "don't use a square base for your house." :)
My rule with a build is that the environment makes the build look complete. The shape of the house can be fairly basic like your plan, as in its only some rectangles, with some details on the walls and roofs, but it’s the environment and natural details that make it stand out. Leaves and plants add so much colour to a build it instantly makes it nicer to look at. Small flower beds and ponds make it feel more like a lived in and thriving place, and vines make it look like it’s been there for a long time and not just something that has appeared there. You could even create a cliff with a small stream with lots of natural plants and that’s something I love to include. I can also say that experimentation is key, I have a super flat world where I just try stuff out, materials, shapes, details and so on, if it works I will keep it but if not then I just won’t do it again unless it happens to work in the build. For me the hard part is building something in survival and having the motivation to make big projects like villages.
I totally agree buddy, it's the small details and color that really make a build. Survival can be tough for motivation but one thing i've learned is to have several projects to go back and forth between so you don't get burned out on repetitive builds or styles. Taking a break to explore the world and do things like completing advancements is also another way to take a break from one project. This is always a great way to get motivated, but try to keep your projects different from each other. For example maybe so different styled towns so you don't have to continuously build in the same style, or maybe a different terraforming project or building a park, just give yourself as much variety as possible to keep you inspired to play. =)
That was a fantastic video in going over the entire process of getting the idea from your head out into Minecraft. I love the way you setup those textures before hand. I get caught a lot after the fact and the old scratch the head on well what should I use now LOL. Like right now doing my own take on port royal on the server but different and it is always ok were to go from here. Again a great video as always and keep up the fantastic job.
Been subbed using your tutorials and tips for a while, and don't remember ever commenting! Your videos have helped me A LOT. I went from square houses and straight cobblestone paths to creating so much more intricate builds with beautiful scenery. (Ponds have become my favorite thing to build ever since I watched your landscaping tutorial.) Anytime my realm friends ask how I make my builds, I always tell them to check out your channel for inspiration. So, huge thank you for all the awesome content you dish out, Blue! Always looking forward to your uploads!
You are an amazing artist! Love following along and building with your tutorials. It's funny how once I see you do something I think "well of course that works that way" but I certainly didn't think of it myself! Hope I get tired of building stuff in MC before you do cause I'd be so lost! LOL! You also have a great voice and I'm so glad you don't shout or act silly. LOL! Thank you again for sharing your talent with us!
What a nice video, especially your last words (no no not THE last words, just in the vid :D) were beautiful. -Don't overdo things -Don't be afraid of 'mistakes' -from another vid: even a mistake can be a new idea -just have fun Thank you again for such a good content 😀
Your pace and tone are very watchable, you have a plan and you understand what it is that you are trying to convey. You aren't trying to be cutesy nor are you trying to scream you way into people paying attention to you, it's like listening to an adult explain something. So many of the Minecraft content creators work at a frantic, break-neck pace that is unfocused, and it's hard to really learn anything from them. Great work, keep it up.
Your channel has elevated my building techniques and style in such a natural way, I cannot thank you enough for these videos and insights. I built a good chunk of your castle in my hub village, and though I did not use the exact interior (I need to revise a bit to keep it unique) I found that the patterns applied through the build were easy to apply to other areas. All in all, I am quite pleased with how it’s coming along, thank you for the spark (understatement) of inspiration. I’m planning on joining your discord to share pics, thanks again for these videos, and for your general positivity. Have a great day Blue!
This video was extremely helpful and confidence boosting. Part of my trouble with building is just like you said in the video, trying to visualize the whole build details at all in one go, then getting upset with myself when things don't work out. I'm really going to try using that wool method, it just seems much easier using such bright contrasting colors to visualize different pieces and making things more simple. Again what I appreciate most about this channel is you take things slow, you help build a better mental picture for us viewers and I've never seen you present a full build without any context or process.
Your builds are so splendid all the time and I can see clearly the amount of effort you put into these stunning builds. Thank you so much with the perfect tutorials and tips to make us amateurs better at building! You putting these videos out there just goes to show how selfless you are and how all you want is to help people. Thank you!
Videos like these are why I like this channel so much. It's advice that helps people grow especially when you can actually see the stuff happening instead of just being told. A lot of people, myself included, learn through visual stuff which is super helpful. I've also come to realize that I'm starting to enjoy more of being in creative mode better since while practicing building you can take a look back way easier and that helps a lot. I didn't like that realization at first since I've always been a survival player but once I started building a medieval dock in creative I got so many ideas just from stepping back and looking for places to put stuff like small rooms they'd use on the dock for storage and then seeing an area I could put a small restaurant embedded into an open spot for the dock workers to eat at or for people coming in by ship. It's amazing the ways you can find inspiration and this channel has been one of mine for a long time
Thank you for the tips and being so positive! You always speak at a comfortable pace and tone (PS Your voice is amazing!!) It's so important to understand an artists point of view and how they work through their creative process. Your method can be applied to any style but most importantly you encourage us to make mistakes and keep trying. As an "OLDER" minecrafter you have helped me rediscover my love of art on a different media. Again THANK YOU and keep them coming!
Great explanation! If I may add another tip: Even for a fantasy build, the layout should make sense in-universe. A flat stone ceiling would collapse, make a vault or use wood. If you have a big tower sitting on top of your building, it's walls need to extend all the way down to the actual ground. And consider making walls bearing heavy loads more then one block thick. It makes the build feel much more solid. And another one: Consider deliberate imperfections in patterns. Plans change, buildings get modified and people have priorities higher than perfect regularity. As an example, one of the buildings in the video had a facade divided into three block wide sections, but one of them was four blocks wide.
I developed my own style of texturing when doing your Medieval Castle Tutorial series, which consists of larger patches of the same bloc, integrated into other patches of the main block and 3rd complimentary block. I find it quite aesthetically pleasing for larger builds!
I’ve watched a lot of your videos to get build ideas and it really helps. It’s kind of hard for me to find videos that give an in-depth description, especially for a beginner like me. Really really appreciate it, hope to see more!
I started playing minecraft for the first time this summer, and I've got my first house and my last in the same world. The difference in building skill between those houses is phenomenal! Because of your videos i've improved so much in building and found new ways to implement my creativity 😍 i enjoy your tutorials a whole lot!!! The clever details always amaze me!
I went into this expecting to already know everything I was going to hear and mostly take inspiration from the video, but there were still quite a bunch of useful tips. Thanks!
This had already helped me improve so much! First video of yours I've ever watched and I'm already subscribed. I look forward to seeing your other videos to help me improve! Keep it up, man
thank you so much for the colors tip, im trying to build a fortress-like house with some blocks i found pretty from some mods but they don't go with each other and the other videos i saw only worked with vanilla blocks
Okay this is actually genius with the concept art idea. I always struggle coming up with ideas for medieval style builds cause that's my absolute favorite style and when you said look at concept art I went and did that and found at least 30 images I loved so I saved them. This works doubly well since I'm trying to learn how to build in general and having something to look at and practice building is gonna help tremendously with that. I'm always watching hermitcraft and wondering how they got so good at building and I bet they did something similar. Just practicing a lot will improve what I want to do
Thank you! I love building but I get stuck building off of tutorials (a few of yours actually) but I always feel wrong doing it, this was really helpful :))
This is a really great video! I'm only just getting into minecraft builds and architecture and this helped me visualize things better. Thank you! You're a good teacher.
i am a great builder and had been building and improving for about 3yrs and building a giant city thats semi realistic and a big mix of medieval, victorian and modern/contemporary styles, but planning is my problem, hope you make more of this type of vids
This is such wonderful video, you always explain so well and really make it so easy to learn. This is one reason your content is always above the rest for me. Thank again Blue for such a great video!
Not gonna lie I love when people use shaders in their video and that's what gets me to love their videos, of course the content matters. AWESOME VIDEO !! 😄
Thank you Blue! Very important points you address here. Besides learning from watching you build, learning the thinking behind it is precious. Thank you for sharing… 🥰

Make to building look functional to its role, abandoned or whatsoever.
learn a great deal with this, and yes I agree, there is a thin line between too much and just enough. I just realized I still have a long way to go. thanks again for sharing such a great content!
I've been playing Minecraft on and off for about half of my life, and this video finally let me build my first passable house without a tutorial.
That's awesome Florp, i'm so glad the video helpful for you. Thank you so much for thanks, much appreciated buddy =)
A lot of great tips here. What I've been doing a lot lately is dressing up the outside of builds with those simple details, especially things like storage, benches, leaf blocks, and flowers. A bit of that really does go a long way.

That's why I don't play survival. I built. Nothing more.
This is literally the best how-to-build in Minecraft resource I've ever seen... and I have spent an incredible amount of time looking. Thank you!

Love your channel dude! I’m subbing
Amazing video, Thank you for making me a better builder. This will help with my survival 🙂 with theses builds, you make minecraft more creative.

I’ve only been playing since last year and I get SO much inspiration from your channel! Thank you 🙏
great walkthrough, this will be useful for future episodes, thank you
Thank you for the tips. I really want the medieval style and everytime I attempt, I goes blank and stop. I will follow this tips
arches over roads and pathways are your best friend in city builds, they really make the build feel more compact and more connected
Been waiting soo long for this video . Thanks 🥰
Thanks! These videos are really helping me to be a good builder :D
Awesome video, you are one of the best builders in the community. I’m excited to be a better builder
Great advice! Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Mate, you’re amazing. I love the way you explain things
Such a great video, Blue!!
This had already helped me improve so much! First video of yours I've ever watched and I'm already subscribed. I look forward to seeing your other videos to help me improve! Keep it up, man

Question what texture pack do you use? Also love your vids, subscribed today!!😂
I'm about to cry right now.
I had been looking for such video for ages now.

This is a really great video! I'm only just getting into minecraft builds and architecture and this helped me visualize things better. Thank you! You're a good teacher.
For new builders make sure and make the frame a little bigger than you anticipate. It will let the house breath better when you do a full on interior
i am a great builder and had been building and improving for about 3yrs and building a giant city thats semi realistic and a big mix of medieval, victorian and modern/contemporary styles, but planning is my problem, hope you make more of this type of vids
this mans Framing just gave me a idea (Colourful Concrete House aka FunHouse) New sub!

Thank you so much, It helped so much. You are a great builder.
Amazing video! 👍👍
Thank you Blue! Very important points you address here. Besides learning from watching you build, learning the thinking behind it is precious. Thank you for sharing… 🥰
hello, i just recently started minecraft and i find your suggestions and examples really good. thanks for this work
Thank you! Also what did you use for e the windows! Those are sick!
I swear to God, THIS was the most helpful Minecraft Tutorial EVER!
I am so happy I've found it!
Thank you very much 💐
your builds are so good! i could never.
My rule in building is that try to make the building make sense, even if it doesnt.
Example : I'm building a floating castle, where different sections of it isn't attached to the main building. One rule is that although its floating in the air, gravity can still affect those parts. So make the bottom and floors kinda look like they're falling and so on. If you want to make it looks like it is a place to live in, build supports at the bottom of the building, to show that the ones who lives in there trying to keep it from falling.
Make to building look functional to its role, abandoned or whatsoever.
Nice vid dude
your tutorials have been very helpful :D
i really love building in minecraft and this video has helped a lot! Thank you!! ♡
Amazing builds!

Awsome... Thank you BlueNerd. ❤
Thank you Sheila =)
Your all build are so realistic
Love EVERYTHING about this video. No flaws... although one HUGE question; any tips on large buildings without worldedit? Much love!
Thank you Roach, you might find this video helpful for planning large scale builds like cities and towns - th-cam.com/video/oXu26UqBgoc/w-d-xo.html
