Uh yeah he's definitely not talking about cancel culture. And once you've heard problematic when he says he SHOULD be held accountable for the shitty things he's done in the past.
This song is literally about how comedy does not make a material difference in the world. Sure it's nice to laugh, but laughter isn't going to help a hungry person.

For sure, I'd add it's not as much a critic of comedy but a question on why we use it in society and By we do need comedy

I think he's also speaking from the perspective of a creator, that introvertedly he knows jokes won't solve the problems he wants to see solved.

I think Bo basically does a lot of meta analysis of himself in his comedy, meaning he removes himself from...himself by several layers and then jokes about himself using irony. He's bringing to light the different voices, thoughts, worries inside himself. On the one hand, he's actually worried that he's not really doing anything worthwhile. Which other people have pointed out. But I think those commenters also missed the other side of it, which is that he actually does want to make a difference and he wants to bring some kind of joy to people with this special that he was making in the middle of the pandemic. So he probably recognizes that internal voice like "oh I can make a difference by making people laugh" and then also making fun of himself for thinking that while we were literally not sure how many people were gonna die or what would happen next. That's my take anyway.

Imagine missing the whole point about the song. Its mocking the very idea of healing the world with comedy. He's not talking about cancel culture. He's talking about if its okay as a human to joke about while everyone is suffering. Also the line is a dead giveaway, "making a literal difference metaphorically". As in, none. What he's talking about is how white comedians declare themselves as allies of minorities but shut their voices and become the center of attention and only signal progressive messages to make themselves feel good and mostly because they like being paid. Smh. This entire comedy special IS very explicitly political.

The whole point of art is that everyone can interpret it different. If a song makes you feel differently than he feels, who the fuck cares lol.

Comedy is ONLY ONE THING. Comedy is TRUTH. Things that are the funniest, MOST offensive, BEST COMEDY are the most unabashedly accurate things.
Truth can NEVER HARM. And neither can LAUGHTER.
We NEED COMEDY. You're excited exposition about how what he said is so true at the beginning ......almost made me puke.
Fix your thinking people like you are why the world keeps getting worse.
