They need to bring this back on a modern gaming phone. Would be the perfect phone for watching movies on the go, or connecting a controller and playing on the projector.
Imagine the phone screen then displays the controller, and the projector is on the side of the phone (or rotatable?) and the game then shows in large on the wall
I would love to see a new one of these made. It's still a really cool idea. I wanted one back in the day but I was still just a kid so was never able to get one.

Innovation flourishes as people still trying to speculate with the future of smartphone and android in its infancy years. Now those experiments and features are gone because we know what market really wants. Market research has narrowed down smartphone features into marketable products. I just wish that smartphone manufacturers are going to release experimental products once in a while though!
I actually really like that it projects your alarm clock. If the projector was off until the alarm went off, it would be perfect for people that like a pitch black room to sleep in. Project some nice sunny orange glows on my wall to help me wake up in the morning. I like that a lot

I love the small size of this 2012 Samsung phone. Not too small and not too big. From that moment in time smartphones only got bigger until today's S24 Ultra. The only smartphone that is this size today (13 cm/5.1 inches in length) is the Unihertz Jelly Max with 5g, 256 gb storage, 4000 mAh battery and a 5' screen. It costs about 340 USD/310 Euros.
imagine a note version of this, except the pen would have pressure sensitivity, two buttons, and a touch sensor for scrolling, then a laser pointer for example, a presentation
Decent idea but the battery life of the pointer would be extremely short unless you keep the stylus right over the phone to keep it charged, which will get uncomfortable.

My first assumption to the red stand was that it screams “I’m 3d printed af” and I feel like you should be able to use the flashlight when doing the camera projecting. If not then that ain’t very innovative but this thing would have big potential if they did some more testing. The size isn’t even an issue imo. Cool review though!
The little white and black spots on the projector image is due to the technology of the time, where it projects using hundreds of tiny mirrors within a chip that the light passes through (or reflects off of) to create an image, when these jam up they no longer display the image but a solid white or black instead.
I had this phone back then. You can connect a ps3 controller on this, just change the bluetooth address of the controller so it can pair up. I mostly use this to watch anime and I'd say it's best to watch anime with this rather than watching movies or tv shows if you don't have a 40" tv. There was also a released galaxy beam 2 but it didn't sell well.
The tech is insane. Imagine getting TH-cam or netflix going on your phone, connecting a controller, a bluetooth speaker and just projecting it onto your wall. Crazy.
With how compact tech is today, I am 100% certain a projector could be built into any modern phone without much extra space taken. Imagine the iPhone 16 having a 1080p or 4k projector built into the top... such a shame that this is considered a gimmick because to me a projector built into a phone still seems so futuristic. I mean having your alarm just appear on your wall in the morning like a TV is awesome. Even more so being able to instantly project your screen on the fly so you dont have to huddle around a small device. It seems kinda cyberpunk in a way. We need to petition a comeback of this tech. In my mind its in no way a gimmick and in fact it screams the "portability" and cool factor that a lot of other tech is going for these days.
One of my freind father used to own it and my freind showed me this once and i was quite surprised 😅 Like i am indian and these kind of tech back then in india was rare .
Dear TH-camr, I understand that you've created a video poking fun at the Samsung Beam phone, which was released back in 2012. While humor and critique are part of content creation, it's essential to approach older technology with respect and appreciation. The Samsung Beam phone, despite its limitations, played a significant role in shaping the mobile landscape. It was one of the early smartphones with a built-in projector, allowing users to share content on a larger screen. Imagine the excitement and innovation that went into creating such a device! As creators and consumers, we owe a debt of gratitude to those who pushed the boundaries and experimented with novel ideas. The Samsung Beam phone might seem outdated now, but it paved the way for advancements we often take for granted. So, let's celebrate progress while remembering the pioneers-the engineers, designers, and visionaries-who brought us these early tech marvels. They deserve our respect, not mockery. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and I hope we can all appreciate the journey that got us here. 🚀📱💡 Sincerely, Daniel
Sooooo now I want to get rid of my Lg minibeam projector and get this one with a micro SD card with all my movie DVD backups! Thanks man. So there’s absolutely no way to connect a controller while gaming! Ahhh such a bummer. I grew up on N64 as well, and I love to collect these old school phones.
hey you totally can connect a controller! From comments you’d need to make minor changes to the Bluetooth settings of the controller which can be done by connecting to a newer smartphone I believe. Also there are newer versions of this phone (Beam 2). Hope that helps
This was such a cool feature. Unfortunately all good old things are destroyed by mean companies. They only believe in "Kill the things that doesn't sell".
Can see the white and black dots on the screen. Sadly, most projector lights don't last very long. I've had my in home projector replaced twice now in the past 3 years, because it keeps going out. I doubt they'll let me warranty it a 3rd time. The lights simply don't last more than a few years of consistent use. My last projector did this same thing, black and white spots everywhere, worse and worse and more and more, until it was unwatchable. Amazed this is happening when it is 'new'.
this is good to know.. dang that sucks sorry to hear. I thought it was the glass! good to know it’s the projector.. several have commented similar. Dangit
This phone is really good for binging content, yes the quality is not that good, you miss out on HD, but you can see 480p content just find, I wish I had this on my phone, would never need a smart TV, also I could project to ceiling at night, wear headphones, and problem of phone falling on face solved, neck gets saved from pressure *Edit* I looked up price of this phone and the smart TVs, its definitely costlier, you could buy a good projector at one third of the price
My grandpa had this phone and let me play games on it, I'd also watch videos on the projector and it was awesome. He still has the phone but I don't think it works anymore
The answer to your question about the Zombie art by Jack Larson is that it's on all phones that run on the 2.3 Gingerbread software version , all phones that old cannot be updated especially ones that are discontinued such as that one.
Those black and white dots are the DMD micromirrors failing. I have repaired many DLP TVS/Projectors with that exact issue lol. Micromirrors move one way to be white, and one way to be black, and to simulate shades the mirrors move very fast. As they fail they start to flicker or they get stuck on one or the other.
Yes, i saw on projectors that is basically change a crystal chip but in this case as it has more than 12 years an exchange can cost more than the residual value of the phone @@nukfauxsho

I had one back then and used it for 4 years, untill android 2.3.6 didn't support whatsapp anymore. I loved that phone. I still have it somewhere.
And not even youtube from the browser. But you can upgrade it to android 4.something
I’m absolutely shocked that this little phone can play Mario 64! Aw yeah dude
Imagine going through a time machine and coming out 97´ with such a thing. Everyone would be mindblown. And those are just 15 years.
samsung should revisit the projector phone idea with new technology it would be awesome and dex would be amazing with it
One of my freind father used to own it and my freind showed me this once and i was quite surprised 😅
Like i am indian and these kind of tech back then in india was rare .
Watching adult films in that phone must be fun ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Haha yeah boi 😉

Dear TH-camr,
I understand that you've created a video poking fun at the Samsung Beam phone, which was released back in 2012.
Sincerely,
Daniel
It ain't that serious. Calm down

I would still use this phone holy shit
look up the Unihertz Tank 2
When apple re releases this feature it'll become global fashion tech icon and praised by all 😂
That's honestly an impressive projector
Well damn that looks much better than I expected
Sooooo now I want to get rid of my Lg minibeam projector and get this one with a micro SD card with all my movie DVD backups! Thanks man. So there’s absolutely no way to connect a controller while gaming! Ahhh such a bummer. I grew up on N64 as well, and I love to collect these old school phones.
hey you totally can connect a controller! From comments you’d need to make minor changes to the Bluetooth settings of the controller which can be done by connecting to a newer smartphone I believe. Also there are newer versions of this phone (Beam 2). Hope that helps
@@johnzoid74 it does! Thanks for the reviews man.
This was such a cool feature. Unfortunately all good old things are destroyed by mean companies. They only believe in "Kill the things that doesn't sell".
Had no idea this existed! So cool.
You are close to 300K subs!!
so close.. so close 😎 you guys are nuts ! Much love ❤️
I guess you can put phone on stand to project minecraft to the wall, but use a bluetooth controler to play.
I had one, it had an additional battery charger with a stand that pointed to the ceiling, I still have it.
Not being a big phone user, the projector feature is the only interesting thing I would actually want to use a phone for.
The coolest and most functional old Samsung, for me, is the Kzoom .
Dangit
@@johnzoid74 if you bouthg it from Aliexpress, is there any kind of warranty?
This phone is really good for binging content, yes the quality is not that good, you miss out on HD, but you can see 480p content just find, I wish I had this on my phone, would never need a smart TV, also I could project to ceiling at night, wear headphones, and problem of phone falling on face solved, neck gets saved from pressure
*Edit* I looked up price of this phone and the smart TVs, its definitely costlier, you could buy a good projector at one third of the price
My grandpa had this phone and let me play games on it, I'd also watch videos on the projector and it was awesome. He still has the phone but I don't think it works anymore
Samsung Beam, Fold, Flip. So much cool tech.
I'm with Apple so I'll wait to see what they release next!
The answer to your question about the Zombie art by Jack Larson is that it's on all phones that run on the 2.3 Gingerbread software version , all phones that old cannot be updated especially ones that are discontinued such as that one.
I remember my dad having it and i remember watching movies with it
back in 2012-13
Great concept on 2012😮
I remember wanting this phone so bad back in the day!
I had a middle school professor who had this. She would use it at classroom to show us students some stuff. It was kinda cool ngl
Sunday Brunch and A Day of railway travel were also used as sample tracks in 2012-2015 demo unit Samsung phones.
Is there any way to fix it?
It’s an easy fix on rear projection DLP TVs. In regards to this phone it’s probably toast.
Yes, i saw on projectors that is basically change a crystal chip but in this case as it has more than 12 years an exchange can cost more than the residual value of the phone

I have one of these, and it is so fun to use to watch movies. Its not the greatest, but- its fun.
5:30 Actually, yes. In the dead of winter, I get
2012 mindset with 2024 tech in a phone would be wild
The fact they called it the Beam 1 tells me that they were planning on a Beam 2 thinking that it was gonna be a success instead of just calling it the Beam and if it did well just come out with the Beam 2.
5:28 Millions of projecting alarm clocks:
Missed opportunity not have a mini HDMI in port, would of sold better being advertised as a portable TV.
Well you can now glasses that have a full hd screen in each lens that when connected to a usb c device give you a large screen right in front of your face I’m buying some soon
i got this phone like a week ago, ordered it off aliexpress... best part is is that the phone came broken, what amazing luck i have. battery in it is perfectly fine but the phone itself is dead. seller is also taking his damn time to respond.
dude.. that makes me want to cry. I bet I got lucky because mine was definitely refurbed and a little questionable as well
@johnzoid74 you know its funny because this was actually meant to be "refurbished", but as far as i can tell all they did is maybe replace the plastic housing and the battery. Its also amazing how they apparently test the phones before sending them out.
Bro pulled up to O block with a Samsung Galaxy beam instead of a "A Glock wit da beam" as those urban individuals would say
Back then I had a plan to start a training company; I had this phone in my sights as a backup projector in case the dedicated projector failed or there was a power outage (common and unpredictable in my country)
all phone companies today:
"We CaNt FiT a HeAdPhOnE jAcK oN oUr PhOnEs, BeCaUsE tHeY tAkE uP wAy tOo MuCh SpAcE"
Samsung in 2012: "we have projector and headphonejack on smoll phone size :3"
This phone would be peak with today's technology.
Isn't it weird that phones earlier were so advanced than now.
Got one, still works great today ❤
My whole body took a screenshot when you said "mario smash brothers"
lol I always say it wrong 😑 💀
We need to see him zombiefie this phone to a modern phone 😂
Origional Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros, Mario Cart, Mario 64... commenting which Mario games I grew up on.
The phone just look really cool. Imagine just pulling up meme on the wall with projector phone. Like who’s going to stop you from showing offense memes
How can you update TH-cam so it works
