I'll tell you a story aboot a year or twa ago,
Whin Lowrie cam knockin apo wir door.
He sed if I hed naething at I hed ta do,
Could I gie him a haand ta lod up his oo.
I says, "Lowrie, Lowrie I'll shörly help dee,
For whin I'm stuck du ey helps me.
Lowrie, Lowrie I'll shörly help dee,
For whin I'm stuck du ey helps me."
He sed, "Noo gaeng tae da baarn an kerry oot da oo,"
An he wid come wi da van whin he wis fed da coo.
I wis winnin tae da door wi da hidmaest bag,
Whin Lowrie browt her up i da waa wi da dad.
I says, "Lowrie Lowrie, shö's a strong peerie van,
Afore shö's stöd up ta dee sae lang.
Lowrie Lowrie, shö's a strong peerie van,
Afore shö's stöd up ta dee sae lang."
Noo whin we wir gotten hit aa aboard,
    An Lowrie led da lashings aboot da back doors;
He says, "Du better jöst come wi me,
    In kaese dae'r ony emergency."
I says, "Lowrie, Lowrie, I'll come wi dee,
If hit sood jöst be for company.
Lowrie, Lowrie, I'll come wi dee,
If hit sood jöst be for company."
As we wir comin up da rod,
Shö wis strainin under a heavy lod.
Bit whin Lowrie set his fit tae da board,
Dae wir some tune on dat peerie aald Ford.
I says, "Lowrie, Lowrie, shö's swingin low,
An du's drivin trowe pothols, go slow.
    Lowrie, Lowrie, shö's swingin low,
An du's drivin trowe pothols, go slow."
Noo we wir wun halfwye doon da Kames
Whin Lowrie's peerie van, shö brook doon agen.
An Lowrie sprang oot, stack da handle i da hol,
Bit aa da göd it did wis ta steer up da oil.
I says, "Lowrie, Lowrie can du no see a spark?"
He says he couldna see a spark unless it wis dark.
"Lowrie Lowrie can du no see a spark?"
He says he couldna see a spark unless he wis dark.
So we liftit up da bonnet an he hockit at a while,
Whin I saa a wire hingin aff o da coil.
We didna hae time for tae hing aroond
For hit wis a half-day itae da toon.
I says, "Lowrie, Lowrie, is du faan a fair föl
At du canna see a wire hingin aff o da coil?
Lowrie, Lowrie, is du faan a fair föl
At du canna see a wire hingin aff o da coil?"
Bit tae da wool brokers we eventually got.
Dat's whaar Lowrie did an emergency stop.
We got it aa in an we got da oo weyed,
Da bags emptied oot, an Lowrie wis peyed.
I says, "Lowrie, Lowrie, whit's gyaan ta happen noo,
wis du gyaan ta gaeng haem an look tae di coo."
He says, "Na, na, shö'll jöst be da sam,
So we'll haed in ower an we'll hae a peerie dram."
So comin in ower for da wye o da Grand
He took a right turn, dat's whaar he göd wrang.
An as we wir comin alang da street
A dirty big policeman we did meet.
He says, "Lowrie, Lowrie dis a ceevilised toon,
    (Hit)'s a wan-wye street du's comin doon.
"Lowrie, Lowrie dis a ceevilised toon,
    (Hit)'s a wan-wye street at du's comin doon.
So he backit an he filled an he got it aroond,
He says, "We'll look alang da Thule on wir wye oot o toon.
We wir in dere for an oor or two,
Jöst lang anyoch for Lowrie ta git foo.
I says, "Lowrie, Lowrie, while dae'r still twaartree pound,
We better mak haem ower for wir owne.
Lowrie, Lowrie, while dae'r still twaartree pound,
We better mak haem ower for wir owne.
So comin doon ower for da Brig o Fitch
Shö took a sally for da ditch.
Shö göd i da ditch wi a rummle an a bang,
An back on apo da rod shö cam.
I says, "Lowrie, Lowrie, whit can I dö wi dee,
Dis kerry-on o dine 'll be da end o me.
Lowrie, Lowrie, whit can I dö wi dee,
Dis kerry-on o dine 'll be da end o me."
Bit wi nae mair misanters we med da laand,
    Lowrie he could scarcely staand.
An Meggie shö wis staandin at da gavel o da hoose,
Whin Lowrie fell oot o da van wi da doose.
An shö cryed, "Lowrie, Lowrie..." bit hit wis no use,
Shö says, "Du damned owld föl, git in tae da hoose.'

Every year this time there should be a comment and this is it. Thanks for bringing awareness to our human issues. Especially in the rain, sleet and snow. This folk song keeps listeners happy and safe. Thanks... get subtitles for other people cos its a situation that happens in all tribal cultures or areas of low population density. Its good to spread the word and get people interested in the scottish language. A very beautiful and under sung language. Religated to an 'interesting' accent by most! Scotland is great and our people should be celebrated not religated.

Certainly can't rely on the auto-generated English subtitling for this. It is VERY FUNNY to watch, however. Great entertainment!
The computer doesn't even generate the same words for the same sounds twice consistently, and words I thought were perfectly clear (and I'm American, of all things, albeit a redheaded scots-italian) the computer totally screws up!

@@lemoncircus3865 technically it's a -variation- of Scots, but as a shetlander/someone who has the dialect it's important to mark the distinction between baseline Scots and that spoken in Shetland. Shetland dialect is a combination of Scots (back from trading with the Scottish mainland as far back as the viking era), English, norse and old Shetland norn, norn being a specific form of noise dialect spoken in shetland until it was killed off several centuries ago due to the clearances putting an emphasis on integrating Shetland into 'baseline' Scottish culture. The result has produced a very unique dialect that varies from area to area even in the islands, and is widely different from anything spoken on the Scottish mainland
