    If you are using the Sainsmart 6060 spoilboard You will need 3030 t-nuts. Great spoilboard!! Did one for my Prover6060 last week.

    the pinned straight edge was a very good idea. I"ll have to remember that one.

    Hi James, Ive been scratching my head for a way to use a spoil board on my aluminium bed on my 4030. Thank you for sharing, I'll send some pics when Ive done it.

    Thanks James ! I'm waiting on Amazon to deliver my XL 4030 + 6060 Kit + Aluminum spoil-board , now in the process of building a cnc table / cover and vacuum system... It's going to be a busy X-mas. I really appreciate your videos and help ! Great job and keep them coming.

    Nice work there James, great design. if you can align screw holes with slots, you could double up & with threaded inserts as well, but don't allow bolts to bottom out when clamping, will lift the MDF !!

    This is an awesome idea! If anything gets gouged just replace the relevant part. Looks like you could easily modify this for the 1010 upgrade

    • @JamesDeanDesigns
      @JamesDeanDesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, same principle applies with the 1010 upgrade, I just don't have space for that 😆

    Great Video James. I'm thinking about changing my spoil board design. I reviewed your measurements for the SainSmart 6060 aluminum bed (around 4:45)
    and they are good. My values were within 0.3 and 0.5 mm, but I think that is because of my inexpensive plastic jaw digital multimeter. I think I'd be more enclined to do a 7 track design. I'll send pics when i'm done. Thanks again for all your hard work it making great videos.

    Thanks for this video. Finally built mine and surfaced it. Came out great. Only issue I found so far is the hold down clamps seem to be to short in height for clamping. Anyone have better ideas on different hold down clamps?

    I know I'm late to the party, but that second 90 degree edge has a second benefits, You'll always know the X and Y coordinates of that corner, which can speed up setting up for the job. All that is missing is the z which you can find with the probe.

  • @obenrg
    @obenrg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Did you place the dowels in the straight edge un-even, so you can't put it in backwards? If not it might be a good idea to mark the straight edge.

    • @JamesDeanDesigns
      @JamesDeanDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good point. I didnt intentionally do it for this reason but the dowels are slightly offset to the left so if I try to put it in the wrong way it will over hang. Good thought 👍

    Thanks for the video. I’ve watched several times and will be making one for my 6060 soon. Any improvement you suggest? I noticed on the repeatable carving video you did not use the side part you made in this video but had it on the spoilbord, any benefit to that versus using the edge you made in this video?

  • @vidafterdark
    @vidafterdark ปีที่แล้ว

    Having the 90 might just be nice for repeatability.

    Hi James. Really appreciate your videos! As a new CNC user, I've learned a lot from you. Please, where did you get that dust shoe? I just bought a 4030 with the 6060 upgrade as well as the Dewalt router upgrade (go big or stay home, right?) and am in need of a dust shoe. Thanks in advance.

  • @Festivejelly

    Ive got the 4030 v2 which has this built in. Would I surface this? I assume yes because if I dont I cant be sure its flat.

    • @JamesDeanDesigns
      @JamesDeanDesigns  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the slats on the V2 are your bed, which I'd different to a spoilboard. A spoilboard should only be as big as your work area and ultimately disposable. I just released a video doing a spoilboard on a slatted bed similar to the V2 but was on the CL6560, principle is the same though

    Hi James, I have just ordered the 4030 through your affiliate link with the 6060extension. I did not purchase the 6060 T-Slot Table Aluminum Spoilboard. Can you point me to a possible video for making a mdf spoil board. Thanks

    • @JamesDeanDesigns
      @JamesDeanDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Gerry, that's really appreciated. I dont have a video to do a full spoilboard MDF spoilboard, only the one from the extension video where I show how big the piece if MDF needs to be and where to drill the holes. To make an MDF spoilboard as such you need to have something underneath for your clamps and stuff so that could just be a series of those threaded inserts that are in the 4030 spoilboard, just a lot more of them

    Hi. Have you an opinion on the Yora 6060. Similar to the Genmitsu especially when you cost in the prise for the extension. Thanks

    • @JamesDeanDesigns
      @JamesDeanDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wanted to join the Yora Facebook group to learn more about the Silverback machine knowing people would ask this question but they refused to let me into the group so I cant specifically comment. As an observation, I would say its made at the same source so quality is probably similar. The fact they keep their group so closed to me is a negative thing, where as Sainsmart are fully open and happy to help everyone so I would still lean towards Sainsmart for that reason

    What laser cutter is good for dollhouse puzzle? One that isn't expensive

    • @JamesDeanDesigns
      @JamesDeanDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll want at least a 5w (5.5w) ideally. Both Sainsmart and FoxAlien make them as stand alone laser engravers or as separate attachments for CNC machines. What I should point out is whilst these lasers can cut, if you really plan to make money for laser cutting then you may be better looking into CO2 lasers. They cost more but are a lot more efficient

    Can the FoxAline be upgraded to 6060? Or can we cut anything bigger than the 4040 using a software?

    • @JamesDeanDesigns
      @JamesDeanDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, at this moment the FoxAlien can't be upgraded. Not sure if they have plans to release an extension kit. There is something called tiling where you break a design into multiple sections, you can still only go 400mm wide but can go as long as you want
