  • For mixed media, polymer clay and much much more. An idea I had to store delicate things to prevent them from bending or getting dirty.

Soooo helpful thanks for this! I had no idea you can only store polymer clay in certain plastics 😱

What about cellophane plastics like the ones meant for party favor treats? I tried looking up the recycle number code and what exactly cello plastics are made from but i cant find anything to go by to see if they're polymer clay safe. I've been seeing polymer clayers use plastics that they cut to sandwich polymer clay between to keep them from drying out and save on space but they haven't said what kind of plastic they are but judging by the looks of them they look like cello bags to me.

If you can't find what kind of Plastic things are made out of maybe do a test and see in a month or 2 or even longer if you're clay starts to get weird.

Hi Katie. I use a binder too! I should have more of my packages prepped and in the binder. Good info here. And...we are practically neighbors. I'm in NH. Valerie H

I learned this from another polymer clay artist. She's amazing it is a good way to store your clay sheets.

Hi Katie. I have found sculpy 3 is very brittle and breaks easily after baking. I’ve never tried mixing it with other brands though. Have you ever had problems?

My large 1 lb blocks go in a ziplock bag the 2oz I condition when I get time n put in the binders. My canes iv shown in other videos storage containers I use I hadent made any canes at this point. I dont keep any translations not sure what that means but on some I write the temp. Every sheet protector has the name the binder is the brand so I have one for premo Kato cernit ect. The temp I write in the first sheet protector but mainly I bake at 275f

@@katiegordon610 thank you, if you don't mind, you are saying 1lb translucent you just leave in the bag and two 2oz you condition and place in the binder, and your canes you store in containers. I think that is what you are saying if so thank you for your help

Since you opened them all u will need to use them pretty quick. I have blocks from last year unopened that I can condition pretty well. The ones i opened from about 6 months ago is hit or miss. Baby oil or clay conditioning will help with crumbly clay. Also, how are u liking that Kato smell? Lol! I am scent sensitive and it's a no go for me. Gag city! You can buy some clay conditioner that will help with its stiffness. I bought it once and threw it out as soon as the smell hit me. Also from what i hear be warned the color combination for Kato are extremely tricky! They have warm tone primary and cool tone primary. Crossing warm with cool will result in mud. I didn't use it so I can't be for sure. Hope that helps!

The Kato smell does not bother me at all I smell it but it's not nasty or any thing to me at least. I made this video 9 months ago and my clay is still fone I use it all the time out of there others store this way as well which is where I learned it. Polymer clay shouldnt set unless baked and it's a plastic that is compatible so really i am not sure what the difference would be from the clay in the original package opened to opened in this plastic
