This is one of the first reaction videos I’ve seen where the musician reacting isn’t intimidated by JD’s chops. Instead, he’s pointing out how technical it is to nail down what JD and Domi are doing. Usually, the jazz musician tells about how what they’re doing has already been done. I love this guy!
She's French, got a Presidential exception for her Berkley scholarship since she hadn't graduated high school yet. She completed her studies in like a year and a half. JD had tutoring as a child from the guys in Snarky Puppy, but no real schooling. Just playing with people since he was a small child. He was barely 16 when this was recorded, her about 19-20.
I believe Domi just turned 20 and JD 18. Yeah these KIDS are well beyond their years! And are still in school. Like...what else do they need to learn??? lol
We should all just keep our eyes on their careers, I think these guys are going to be the new innovators of not only their genre, but frankly their instruments. These are the kinds of brilliant musicians who teach masters new techniques - People already call what JD does an entirely new style.
I just listened to it back and I think they might start in 9/4 and switch to 10/4 at different times. I'm actually even thinking they might do a little bit of 19/8 (so inbetween 9/4 and 10/4) just because I feel like I'm having to rush the 10th beat to start counting again. The syncopations throw me off a little bit, I'll admit
I think JD uses tape on his drums and cymbals to get a more dampened sound that is kinda the closest way to make acoustic sound like that. Lol to my knowledge
Step out of your trying to pigeon hole the genre. Anime jazz with rock and blues sprinkled throughout you trying to count missing the point of the music close your eyes and float through. Have you heard all that energy lately plus its played muted .

They just played 4 sold out shows at Blue Note in NYC. They are the best. I'm glad I've seen them live.
The fact that JD is also playing all this in an xxxl size anorak 😂
They played with the Metropole Orkset last year. The whole concert is now out on TH-cam. Definitely worth checking out.

That's so incredible. They are ridiculously good
You should check out a video of them playing Havona (Weather raport) they are absolutely nuts!
That sounds amazing! Thanks for the suggestion!

Right?! They're ridiculous!

Check out the whole video this show, somebody uploaded the whole set. Also, for reactions, check out their nord session youtube videos
Thanks for the recommendations! I watched a little bit of that set. So good!
Yes!!!! Love these two - Way ahead of their time :)
I completely agree!
Reaction to their new track Jump!
Awesome, I didn't know they had a new track out! I'll check it out!
One of my personal favorite performances with DOMi and JD is their performance of them changes with thundercat on adult swim
Oh, I've heard of that, but haven't watched it yet! I'll check it out. Thanks!
I definitely plan on it! 😀
I think the part reported as being in 9/4 is actually in 10/4. There are 9 played beats, and a beat of silence, before picking up the next bar.

I think JD beck just turned 18! And domi is always 18 or 19 if I remember correctly. Both berklee grads.
Check out JD’s zildjian live video
Dang! Yeah, I looked it up later and saw that DOMi is a Berklee grad. Didn't know about JD, though! I'll definitely check that video out. Thanks!
hmmm jd is not a berklee grad
@@mikepmcde yeah thats my bad, i heard the wrong info
@@bloodblitzowns11 big UP to this! It also gives nice views of JD's kit (at the time).

They did a better quality version for a Nord Demo. JD has some breakdowns of his kit setup
Check out kid koala, song is skanky panky. His live version where u can see it all happening. Jazzy turntablist
Yea but did you buy the album?
Drums are clean and tight because it's a small kit and only a few mics...and he's great obviously. Check out Havona, it's even better
How the hell are old guys like me supposed to keep up with these young ones?
Drums are muted so fast playing seems cleaner.
