as somone who loves swords and actualy trains in their use
i would think that this would just make a sword want to fly out of your hand at every swing
i would have loved to hear your final thoughts on it after the testing
to my eye it looked incredibly unwieldy despite definitely cutting through every target it looked like it would tire you out much faster than a regular sword
was it effective. looked to be. :) did it look fun to use. not in the slightest

Only question is how did the internal bearings affect the handling of the sword? Thought in might be a bit heavier and off balance with wood used from the guard back to pommel. Pommel was gorgeous. Thanks brother!

I feel like if you instead of having the spine of the blade be just a single tube, and had a bunch of little chambers instead, all the shot wouldn't go all to the tip, which would both improve the 'deadblow' performance and make it less unwieldy.

My friends and I started watching your channel since the beginning, all by himself, without knowing that we actually follow the same guy. At some point someone mentioned your work but we didn't know the exact name of the channel. You've been 'wierd weapon maker' at first, then 'kinky talented guy from yt, who makes strange weapons', even ' that cute Deadpool's pervy buddy' etc. But after a while you got an unanimous nick, 'The official apocalypse weaponsmith grandmaster', or shorter 'The Weaponmaster'! Btw. me and my colleagues are a bunch of crazies as well, sculptors and professional designers, who use a huge abandoned nuclear fallout as a common workshop-studio. And the next common thing we have besides the workshop - we all greatly admire your work sir! If the apocalypse comes, there is no doubt that one of our first missions would be to find you and try to persuade you to work with us, mr. Weaponmaster. Your consent would truly mean a spark of hope both for us and for the rest of human kind! Cheers mate😊🍻

  • @Verbose_Mode
    @Verbose_Mode หลายเดือนก่อน +2

As someone who does HEMA and is very interested in weaponsmithing... this is _fascinating_ and I have no idea how weird that would feel. I kinda think it would not have great handling for actual fencing, though. If you start from a point-up stance, the balance will be in the hilt and that's good for starting swings, and the balance going to the tip during the power part of the swing means more power... but then it's still in the tip when you want to quickly stop it. That loss of agility any fencers would see as a great time to slip past and stab the user, which many would consider a "bad thing."
That being said, the overall construction looks beautiful!

Sir I really do enjoy the dead blow sword and how it works. I’ve imagined a weapon like this, but with padlocks that shift their weight around as the sword swings, dumping more force on impact. I’m happy you’ve shown this same feature can be accomplished with ball bearings in the weapon. If at all possible, do you think you could do a deadblow metal bat and great sword? I have a strong feeling the deadblow weight shift would go perfectly with those! The great sword especially works with this as the weight would start at the pommel, which would keep the blade upward, but once it goes down, weight shifts to the tip!

Back in the early '90s one of my characters in a tabletop RPG had a deadblow sword made for him by gnome bladesmiths, but instead of shot it used liquid metal inside.
As an aside, and oval handle would be better than a round one. Better indexing to the edge when using it.

You are an f’ing crazy nut! Hahaha. Tongues and metal work don’t really mix but…you did it anyways. Love the sword and the commentary.

So what exactly does the lead in the handle do...allows you to smack stuff harder? Will that blade hold up...I mean...end of the world zombies trying to eat your face kinda blade?
honestly...I have no idea how to make a sword...was just wanting to know if that helps?

Have you thought about making a temporary kiln door with a hole in it to allow longer items? gaps can be filled with thermal blanket. I know it wont heat treat the bit sticking out but it would have allowed the core tube to be a grip without joins

Before watching all of it, I feel this will be great for thrusting, going off of how the tube runs with the blade, but I don't think the dead blow aspect helps with cutting

If that had a yard long blade, a square rather than pointed tip and used mercury rather than lead shot, it would be a good real world equivilant of Terminus Est, the sword used by the main character of Gene Wolfe's 'The Book of the New Sun' series.
Always a fascinating concept, I'd love to hear what a HEMA practitioner thought of it. Probably come to the conclusion that about the only things it's good for is a single downward blow, which is reasonable, Terminus Est is the sword of an executioner rather than a warrior.
