It wasn't a bad show, but I only watched it because I love the world of Dune. For me, the problem is that there is no character that I care about. It was only villain against villain. There was no character arc, nobody to care for.
seems like it from the trailer... I'm not interested in a lannister/harkonen origin story... stark or atreidis starting as good and breaking bad is a lot more interesting.
The little girl had an interesting arch. I know she’s basically possessed. But she went from such a timid shy girl into a total bad ass. Watching her and the sister actually stick up to the mother to protect her child. I feel like she might get wacked next season. Maybe she’ll die to protect her son or her sister (the leader) idk. But yeah the younger sister was the only one who seemed to make any sort of progress in the show. Her story has been good. I was like man why’s she crying. She can marry an Atrates he doesn’t care. I figured the younger brother was going to accidentally poison himself and she would be blamed but when they all were dead. Man I was surprised. I mean I saw them putting the black stuff on but I didn’t completely make the connection that they all were going to get poisoned.
It honestly really threw me off that it was EXACTLY the same character. His mannerisms, a lot of his actions, even a lot of motivations are almost identical between both shows. I like him as an actor but it took me out of the show to see him be the same exact person.
Raised by Wolves (the sci if drama not the Brum to series (also very good)) was excellent and also bat shit crazy. So gutted it got cancelled, still hoping it might get picked up by another studio.
I think he played it well to make it seem like he was a misguided and tricked emperor but that can also come from notes of the directors and how they tell him to act. In that case Mark Strong is not the problem.
It’s crazy! In the 2010’s most movies ran 90 minutes and series ran almost 20 episodes per season. Now movies run an average of 2.5 hours and TV shows rarely ever go over 10
Yeah, waiting 2 years in between seasons is really messed up ... but I totally disagree with your wish for large seasons. When a platform buys a 10+ ep season, we the viewers end up with bloat. I mean, writers are human - they can't crank out quality material like machines. So there will always be fluff thrown in to pad out the season.
Streaming services as a whole have a big problem with marketing. They should maybe think about cutting down on how much stuff they make and put that money into marketing the better stuff.
I watch a lot of nba games and they marketed the shit out of it for around 3 weeks on there but it gained absolutely no traction on social media which is likely why it isn’t being talked about.
At first I didn't find the show particularly engaging, but I stuck with it till the end and realized this first season was actually a prologue for the main conflict that is hinted in the finale. I like that none of the characters are decidedly good or bad. The Valya-Desmond feud was intriguing, and the acolytes storyline was interesting, but the story still feels undercooked. I hope the next season improves on what's being built here and I really hope they make it look less cheap.
The show finally found it’s rhythm in the season finale. And what an incredible hour and a half of television it was! 🤯 So I personally feel the show has found itself-after a shaky beginning-and is poised to become something special.
That little girl who was an “abomination” but not really. Idk. But she really blossomed when she went from the little shy girl to the grandmother and her mother. I was like man She’s amazing! She was so timid and a side character. Then you’re like omg she’s gonna take over.
Well the show was designed to attract your demographic. I predict that if it gets a next season then it will be the last. If HBO is smart, it will cancel immediately. The writer's need to be aware of what males notice when they watch shows like this. Most men watching this show and are becoming keenly aware that it is all artifice, facade, and superficial. This show will not survive a second season, if it gets one and it shouldn't.
Ya that final episode was a masterpiece in television. Anyone who gave up on the show after the first episode because it's slow- go back and watch the whole season. You'll be grateful you did.
Because it's pretty bad actually. They thought they could write a better plot than the source material, but they actually didn't care about Dune's Lore and timeline. Bene Gesserit are not supposed to exist that early, and Fremens too, they just ruined my interest in the very first episode with these two mistakes. Zensunnis, the Fremens ancestors are supposed to settle on Arrakis 7000 years after the TV show's era, and Bene Gesserit are only known as "Sisterhood of Rossak" named from the planet they live on, they are not yet powerfull, they are at the beginning of their genetic program and learning, it's in the book "Sisterhood Of Dune". Then we've got the guy who can burn people alive with his magical powers, but hey it's dune we talk about, there supposedly ain't no magic in Frank Herbert's story. Even Bene Gesserit acolytes don't possess any magic, not even the voice wich is completely misunderstood in every adaptations. The voice is just a result of how great Bene Gesserit can analyse a human being's body language and mindset so they know exactly which words and how to say them to obtain a reptilian brain response of submission, if it works you just obey without a question, the sister who uses that technique, dominates a human as a master dominates his dog. There is no mind trick, it does not work everytime and it does not work on anyone all the time, Bene Gesserit sisters sometime need to manipulate the victim to induce doubt and insecurity to "prepare" the usage of the voice. They are women pushed to their full potential, physically and mentally by generations of selected beings via the genetic program and trained from childhood. They have reflexes, sensory abilities and body control pushed to a point no other people ever reached, the only supernatural capacity they have is obtained by usage of Spice poison. As an exemple in Dune, Stilgar is one of the greatest Fremen warrior, respected and feared, he was no match for Jessica, she overpowered him in a blink. This serie mimics Dune at best, the political plot is simplistic, the book is way better.
Interesting take on it all from someone who's read the book, I'd be curious to see if a lot of the rewrites the show had were to make more focus on characters and move in and out of timelines of when things happen
I don’t have any respect for Brian Herbert’s timeline, especially since he took liberty to make changes to his father’s vision. The show does a great job imo of capturing the essence of the Bene Geserit. Or at least an early version of them. Also featured are the Bene Tleilaxu and the Ixians. As far as the “magic” is concerned, there’s a brilliant explanation for people burning. But you’d have to watch to learn what that is.
"Sisterhood of Rossak" named from the planet they live on, they are not yet powerfull, they are at the beginning of their genetic program and learning, it's in the book "Sisterhood Of Dune". Which is what the show is based on. There may be deviations from source material, just as the movies do. But it's still based on existing lore within the expanded Universe.
Well said. I haven't read Brian Herbert's work, but based on what I know from his father's work, I also felt that the show's timeline didn't make any sense and that the Voice was terribly depicted. I could've enjoyed the show regardless if I'd found the story more engaging, but the inaccurate worldbuilding didn't help.
Exactly. It was weird for me that there were Fremen on Arrakis (or elsewhere). Zensunni Wanderers were called that for a reason. And they payed the Guild to have a planet where they would settle and gather the wanderers from other planets. As a series, I believe it was good but not exceptional. Probably you don´t see many people talking about the show because they wait until the season ends to see all chapters back-to-back. My wife is one of them.
4:47 *10.148 years before the birth of Paul Atreides* - Compare the earth any time and +10K years, it could also be 50 years before Paul Atreides is born, it looks pretty the same.
It definitely feels a lot before Paul Atreides. The Bene Gesserit are so much more in his Era, in Dune Prophecy they are just a couple women, not as influential or powerful. Yes, some can use the voice and some can transmute poisons but it's not even close...
@@MrSmokinDragon It feels pretty stupid that social standing or power has not really shifted in 10 000 years either. Even in a feudalist society ruling families changed pretty rapidly.
For me, it just felt like a dumbed-down version of Frank Herbert's novels. All the subtlety and nuance of the books was thrown out in favor of "Everything is Bad because the Harkkonens are Evil, and always have been." Instead of examining how a religious order can be corrupted in their need for control over society, despite their noble goals, instead we a basic villain origin story where two sisters' need for revenge locks Humanity into Feudalism for millennia. Plus, the flashbacks and exposition felt needlessly repetitive. Very little was revealed in those lengthy flashbacks that you couldn't figure out from watching the main story unfold. It feels like "House of the Dragon in Space". A low-complexity drama spinning it's wheels setting up events that we already know how they unfold.
Yes, Dune Prophecy is based on novels written by Frank Herbert's son, along with Kevin J. Anderson. These novels were HEAVILY commercialized young adult slop. Most of the subtleties of Frank's lore were scrapped. Perhaps the worst injustice is what BH/KJA did to the Butlerian Jihad. It wasn't a simple Skynet AI vs. Humans situation in Frank's novels. Frank's Jihad had far more Islamic connotations. Westerners tend to think of "Jihad" in terms of extremist ideology. But for most of Islam, "Jihad" is much closer to the idea of "getting YOURSELF right with God.". So in Frank's writing, the Butlerian Jihad was described as having a very strong philosophical aspect, where it wasn't just about machines but also machine attitudes. Things like the reliance on machines, removing the human element from decision-making, allowing humans with better machines to control other humans, etc. The Butlerians would have exterminated every employee of United Healthcare and burned their offices to the ground the instant they heard United was using algorithms to deny healthcare. But it wouldn't matter to them if there were actually any denials. Just the idea that humans were using machine logic to make decisions about the fates of other humans would have put them into a killing frenzy. What many people forget (or never learned) is that an algorithm doesn't need a computer. Computers just make running algorithms easier. For example, tying your shoes is an algorithm. It is a series of procedures you do the same way, over and over again. Mandatory criminal sentences are another kind of "machine-thinking" that is anti-Butlerian. But if you're a lazy writer trying to pump out as many novels as you can, as fast as you can, you're going to avoid those kinds of subtleties.
@@axebeard6085 When Brian's novels started coming out, one of my coworkers read all of them, and apparently loved them. His descriptions of them made my question my friend's taste in stories, and Brian's competence as an author. Once I heard this series was based on Brian's work, I was willing to give it a fair shake, but it still managed to disappoint.
@@Patrick-qedthat's because Christopher had a huge material left by his father to write about. Almost little to nothing was made up by him to the point some published stories simply didn't have any conclusion like in Unfinished Tales. Brian Herbert's books on the other hand were entirely fan fiction.
I just finished Dune Prophecy last night. 6 episodes was a little disappointing but they did a fantastic job. The plot, pacing & actors were great. The marketing was bad. I don't think this show was made for general audiences, it was made for the bigger Dune fans. It doesn't dumb everything down for people who don't understand, especially with 6 episodes it doesn't have time to waste world building for 2-3 episodes for people who didn't watch the movies or read the books. Again, this show is for people are that already fans, or were fans of books, and wanted More. With Season 2 they need at least 2 more episodes, maybe even 4. Totally agree.
Even for Dune fans, they could bring more service, when they switched timelines, they could show the years. For example when the story of young Tula in the woods came, I frist thought it was the younger princess.
MAX stated that actually this show was the third most watched of 2024 on their platform. Yeah, it surprised me too but explains the second season greenlit
Quick note: The Bene Gesserit plot isn’t a “prophecy,” and the goal isn’t to “unite all Houses”. Their social and political power is derived from the reverend mothers’ genetic memory - they can tap into the memories of all their female ancestors, given the right training and surviving the Water of Life. What they seek is a male who can integrate both male _and_ female ancestral memories, however men lack the biological prerequisites. Therefore it will take centuries of work to produce one who has the right genetic makeup, and has access to the greatest resources, is protected from harm, is raised and trained by a BG adept, and so on. What they didn’t anticipate is someone who would also have trained as a mentat, and that surviving the Water of Life would give him an amplified version of Guild navigators’ prescience. Their Kwisatz Haderach wasn’t meant to be a political leader, yet he became one, as well as a messiah and humanity’s first true super being.
I'm loving this show, and I think I'm loving it more by how surprised I am that I love it. I love that it acknowledges Brian and Kevin's work without going into too much detail
I was bored of the show because the movies kinda set the bar too high. Dune movies are some of the best cinema in the last 5 years. I can't think of any movies that were so good.
I disagree on the "movie > series" point. To me, Andor - A Star Wars Story works better than most SW movies. And the reason to this is it is focusing on the journey its characters go through. DUNE Prophecy only truly focuses on characters in the final episode of the season.
I'll admit, I agree and disagree. Yes, characters in this show get more time to develop but the movies as a whole are just a better product I think. However, I will agree with you that Andor is the best Star Wars of all time at this point lol.
Travis fimmel really doesn't have range in his acting. That being said, he's really, really good at playing the characters he plays. In my opinion, he has an undeniable presence whenever he's on screen.
I like it! I thought it was well done and I like to see the background of the Bene gesserit and the dark past! I love the world building seeing the emperors palace and the Game of Thrones like politics. One of the things I love mentioned was the Ai war or war against thinking machines. I hope there is a second season.
people didn't talked about it but still a lot of people watched the show. when 5 episodes were released 17 million of people had watched the first one wich is a big number
I've been reading the DUNE series for the first time. I am currently on 'Heretics of Dune'. I can safely say that Frank Herbert is the most important fiction writer who has ever lived. The level of real-world wisdom stashed inside this series of books has been blowing my mind. Herbert has a deep understanding of how this world functions at the deeper levels and he shares his knowledge in fascinating ways through this vibrant universe he has created.
I liked it quite a lot, both the visuals and the storytelling were excellent and we constantly discovered more hidden wrinkles about the motivations, conspiracies and hidden plans of the various characters. Great performances by the actors as well! And a very good final episode that makes me look forward to the next season!
A friend told me what it lacked was a real emotional pull in to a character who gets shock/killed at the end of the series, i.e. they wanted a ned stark moment. IMO it was great but I did think some scenes cheapened it, like that smirk after the guard fight added cheese that didnt need to be there. Also some characters I felt needed more time to shine.
Ya I hear you on that, no moments ever gave me TRUE emotional weight. The scene between Tula and Desmond could've been one of those moments but it didn't hit
I am what you would call a casual Dune fan , I have always been aware of the books but never read any of them being such large tomes , I have seen a lot of clips of the Lynch version of Dune but never watched the whole thing , I enjoyed the first part of Dune but thought it was rather slow and talky the second part in my opinion was much better being a bit faster paced , after watching part 2 I binged Dune Prophecy and absolutely loved it , the performances were great everyone gave their all and no one phoned it in even the actors who had relatively small roles were great but the real standout had to be Travis Fimmel who I have not seen in anything else but his performance was so understated and calm whilst being totally creepy and menacing, talking softly is so much scarier than screaming and ranting and raving , Prophecy is a bit of a slow burn but by ep 3 definitely picks up yhe pace and if you stick with it truly rewarding , I would definitely describe it as more Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon in tone and feel than Star Wars and,it does share some similarities with Thrones and House even though the books came out decades earlier .
Some serious errors in your review: 1. It’s not “Dune 2”. It’s Dune Part Two. 2. Dune came waaaaay before Game of Thrones (literature). In fact, George RR Martin stated he based some of his characters off of Dune characters. 3. HBO didn’t cast any of the actors. Legendary Entertainment (their TV division), did all the casting. 4. They ARE NOT the Bene Gesserit yet. That’s why you never hear the words Bene Gesserit uttered once during the show. It is The Sisterhood. 5. “…no relevance to the movie’s lore.” The sisterhood? The early Sardaukar? The Landsraad? The breeding program for the Kwisatz Haderach (still early)? The development of the Voice? The development of The Litany Against Fear? And that’s just what I can recall off the top of my head. You missed a lot, my man. Might want to rewatch the series to see what you missed. The great thing about series’ like this is they don’t spoon feed the audience information; you have to pay attention. Big time. I will agree with their marketing issues. They did a nice job at New York ComiCon and sending the actors out on press junket tours, but that was pretty much it. They needed more of a push. And the six episode series is far too short.
Fair enough on the title although I don't think it's that big of a deal of what I called it. I know Dune came way before GOT I was just making a point to say the show felt like GOT in the sense of it's politics and scheming between characters. Regarding all the lore stuff, I am not a Dune lore fanatic so I guess in my case I went a lot off what I saw in the movies. Hence why I said there were just a couple of side things that tied in.
I knew the world of Dune came before the world of ice and fire, but I didn’t know that GRRM took inspiration for some of his characters. However now that it’s mentioned I see a resemblance between some of the Atreides characters and the Starks.
@@gamefan987 It is largely based on Franks Books, ofc the whole Jihad is from Brian but things like refrences to the god emperor or the Tleilaxu, Ixians and the beginnings of all the great houses and the sisterhood, are all direct tie ins into the later books and it prepares the audience for the next Movie. Because they now know that Facedancers and in general other Human races exist
Been a Dunefile since the 80s. I like Prophecy. Also, agree that this series is esoteric and has a lot of references to lore that gets lost with the casual audience,
I didn't purposely clickbait the video, I was being genuine when I say I haven't felt as if I saw a lot of people talking about it. Views for reactions went down for each new episode and I started seeing some people say that they had to catch up because they stopped watching. If there's one thing I am, it's honest and genuine, I would never lead anyone to think otherwise. This is just based off my personal opinion.
I think people need to see the Dune and Messiah conclusion of the story at least to be deeply invested in the story. Most people already love the movies for its execution of the story, and the end of Dune 2 really left a lot of people salivating for the plot resolution. But they aint ready for where it is going. I feel a better time would be to have this show after Messiah's movie, that would be like the 'Endgame' moment for Dune in terms of hype and cultural zeitgeist. As it is the shoe drop moment.
It's a decent show, but nothing amazing. It just lacks some fine details and suspense to really bring it up to the next level. Pacing is awkward, nothing happens for 3/4 of the episode and then suddenly something completely changes the course of the story out of nowhere - usually with bad justification if any, character decisions are often stupid to move the story along or set up a cliffhanger. I'll watch S2 because I want to see more of this universe. But it's sadly the main thing bringing me back, not the story. Hopefully the writing can improve.
If anything, I felt like the first few episodes had too much unnecessary exposition. I think one of the reasons people enjoyed the Villeneuve films is that they don't condescend to the audience. The average movie goer at this point is expected to keep up with 50+ years of Star Wars continuity to make any sense out of a mid summer blockbuster, I'm pretty sure they can wrap their heads around the concept of a face dancer...
Lol if I may make a point, 50 years in the Star Wars canon timeline is A LOT of time. so mostly hardcore fans would git the most of it. I'll admit a lot of dialouge in the show does feel a lit exposition heavy but also very "build up ish". That's not a real thing people say but I am rolling with it here to make my point.
I feel the problem with dune prophecy is that i already know who is going to win , and it takes the fun out of this type of show where there is no one protagonist and anyone can win.
For the show to be a Dune tv show. It needed this focus, otherwise it would easily lose both fans and normies. I love how the show, kept within the lore. I agree it was to short, the last two episodes needed to breath more. I got the feeling it was rushed at parts due to this. But this also affect the slow burn and serious tone of the world. It worked for GoT, but this was less serious with Tyrion, Bronn and the hound characters. Prophecy have little of this, but this is likely due to a short season. It's always a balance, anyway I hope they continue give the series time to play it out.
@@SCZelda what the hell, it is maybe one of the most unique series there is. They're morons for cancelling but removing it from their platform? That's insane
i watched every season and spinoff, but objectivelsy speaking, Vikings is actually a very mediocre show, FROM THE START, yes, not just the late stuff. insufferable amount of llong winded dream/ surreal sequences early seasons.
@ wasn’t really speaking on the show itself jus Travis being Ragnar…first 3 seasons were actually gud then it went left…Bjorn actually kept me watching it 🤷🏾♂️ Last Kingdom in totality was a better series…at least too me
Desmond is really an intriguing character and I liked what Travis Fimmel did considering the limitations of the script for his character. I am saying this because it's pretty obvious that writers just wanted to make Desmond the big mistery of the show until the very end of the season. The writers didn't really try to write scenes where Desmond was supposed to show some depth. Most of his behaviour only made sense at the end of the season after a specific revelation about his childhood. In fact, the moments where we could finally understand him a little bit more only came between episodes 5 and 6 but especially at the very end of the last episode. When I watched Desmond's last scene with his mother, and seeing his mixed emotions, I really thought there was more to Desmond to find out. I saw a different side of the character that I think we all deserve to understand more. Travis Fimmel's performance in that scene was perfect. With his eyes and his body language alone, he was able to express happiness, anger and confusion of a man who never had love and support in his life. Now, with Desmond's backstory mentioned, the revelation about his bloodline and his potential, his love-hate relationship with his mother and their possible reconciliation and the fact that now he seems to know the truth about his powers (he heard everything Tula and Valya said) there are enough elements to make this character finally interesting and complex. I am sure Travis Fimmel would be amazing. I have watched him in some of his most recent works and I can tell you he can do much much more with his acting when his characters are complex. The majority of people would probably tell you to watch "Vikings". No doubt he was amazing in that show, but if you want a proof of his range as an actor than watch series "Boy swallows universe" and a crime series called "Black Snow". In both projects he plays very different characters and he got nominations as best actor in both of them. I actually feel like more people should watch both of those series to have a better idea of Fimmel's acting.
You bring up a good point about Fimmel as Desmond. His character in the show at first is made off to be the villain, but when the show progresses you come to realize he's actually someone who can be understood with his goals of stopping a force that might be negatively affecting the universe. If that was the case though, maybe the show would've benefited following him as the lead. I think they needed to go more into his backstory personally.
@filmobsessednerd I agree. I can say, however, that in the season finale Desmond became an even more important character, almost as important as Valya and Tula, thanks to the revelations about his identity. So, the next step in season 2 is to get deeper into the character and his backstory that can be explored through his conversations with his mother for example. Understanding his point of view is very important now. As Desmond would say "From now on there will be no excuses" :)
I noticed this as well. In general of all the fandoms I interact with, dune prophecy seems more quiet. After episode two I started calling it dune of thrones and my husband is calling it that too now. It’s one of my favorite prequel series in some time. Feels like two major factors are impacting the show A lot of people I tell about it, when I explain it’s a prequel to the films express immediate disinterest (which I feel is because of all the lackluster reboots spin offs prequels and sequels that have drops in the last 5/10 years) The other is that a lot of ppl who enjoy sci-fi and witch media this year were busy with other selections because this has been such a big year for fantasy and sci-fi. I think your baseball analogy also plays a major part as well it just wasn’t one I thought of until you presented it so thank you.
Ya I agree with some of your points, I think people just want to see the Denis movies continued as opposed to going back in the past. Competition definitely played a factor on what people chose to watch.
Finished it the other night- it was great! But the marketing was practically non-existent, I had *no idea* this even existed before someone told me about it
Travis Fimmel is so good. I went into this thinking “okay, I KNOW he’s going to just be playing Ragnar but in space,” and this show turned into Space Vikings for me. There’s even a part where they go to this weird Viking village in a forest. 100% space Vikings. He looks and acts like Ragnar lol. I don’t care for anyone else in the show. 6/10
I only watched the first Dune, never having heard about it before, and I didn't like it. Because of that I never bothered to watch Dune 2, but for some reason I tried watching Prophecy and it really captured my interest. The show is good, is all I can say, even as someone who was never really interested in the universe to begin with. It's good entertainment and enjoyable
Didn't know initially it was only 6 episodes. At first was still waiting for more since it ended in the middle of December. Thought they were talking a X-mas break
only small bubble of fans are talking about. In the real world the casual people that watched dune 2 and liked don't even know that Max has a show based on Dune really... twitter, online friends and small nerdy friend circle does not count
Title is pretty accurate to be honest. As much as I enjoy the show, I don't see or hear people talking about it as much as say House of the Dragon or even The Penguin.
I loved it, I kept talking about it, I'm not a fan of Villeneuve's movies, and I liked this show much more. RIP David Lynch. His Dune was released when I was a teen and for me that's still the real Dune
As a Dune, sci-fi and HBO series fan, I loved this show. I think it took the idea of expanded universe and nailed it. I get the Dune (the books) fans gripes, but they seem to be the same gripes they had with the movies - deviations from source material, meaning THE book. But no movie or show adaptation is ever exact to the book. It can be close, but even minor deviations piss off "true" fans. But an exact adaptation just isnt something I have ever needed. I'm a huge Jurassic Park fan, and recognize the book and movie are rarely alike at all minus major plot points and caricatures. But even then, theres large deviations. I'm rambling. But I loved this show just as I loved Raised by Wolves. It's very weird and mind-bending sci-fi, but dramatic and engaging Thats how sci-fi should be. But in saying that, I realize not alot of people like the same because mainstream sci-fi is mostly safe and easily digestible. Sci-fi Game of Thrones based on the Dune Universe, give me 16 seasons.
Ya the Jurassic Park movies are NOTHING like the source material, even the MCU has adapted comic lines like "Civil War" which is also NOTHING like the source material but it turned out well for a lot of people. The thing is, you will NEVER please everyone, it just won't happen, at the end of the day, it's the filmmakers process of making a good product that should come first.
Having to pay for yet another streaming service to watch it is the problem. This didn’t happen when we had network television. Equal access is key to success. IMO.
I totally hear you, I wish we could go back to a cable like model where everyone could get it at once. Even though HBO Max is one of the bigger services that people have I can understand what you mean.
I thought the show was kind of slow and dry at first but the more I watched it, the more I liked it. I read the Butlerian jihad books by Frank Herbert's son. I enjoyed those books. Having read those books allowed me to recognize the references from them making Dune Prophecy more enjoyable. References to Vorian Atreides and Abulurd Harkonnen. I think a movie based on Dune Messiah and Children of Dune are going to disappoint a lot of people. It would be great to see movies based on the Butlerian Jihad, machine crusade, and battle of corin. Also a movie based on the hunters of dune.
This series went where Villneuve has yet to take Dune, mostly to other worlds. Although it's not the same quality as the movies, I'm happy that the Tleilax, Ixians, other houses, thinking machines, and the origins of most of the people and events that would shape the later universe. I'm a firm believer that you don't need to dumb down a series if you make it good enough. People love to do research into shows and movies they love if there is enough intrigue. Lord of the rings was complex with different cities, languages, races, and creatures but people fell in love with the movies so much that they read and learned more about it. After watching Dune 1, I read all of the books. I loved them and in many ways, I think that this show has a larger insight to the Dune universe than the movies, despite my greater love for Villeneuve's films.
An interesting way to look at it, for all we know it wasn't the material that was the problem but more so outside circumstances. I just had someone in the comments tell me they didn't know the show even existed lol.
I read the first four of Frank Herbert's Dune series approximately 40 years ago, and never got around to returning to them, much less the subsequent books written by his son. I have seen all of the movie and TV adaptations up to this point, and particularly enjoyed the two newest big screen adaptations. I know lots of folks who had never ever read the books, really enjoyed them, as well. The movie makers did an extremely good job of explaining what was going on even to people who were walking into the theater with no knowledge. I don't think anybody could start into Dune Prophecy without at least having seen the two latest cinematic adaptations of Herbert's work. My girlfriend had absolutely no exposure to the Dune universe before the two latest movies. She really liked them, and she liked Dune Prophecy even better. Marketing doesn't really work on me, so I can't make any criticisms about that. As far as the writing and acting on the show goes, both the writers and actors entertained me, and did better jobs than I could have done. I hate wasting my time on shows or movies where someone like me, who has never tried writing or acting, could obviously have done a better job.
I liked the show for the most part, but it had a lot of problems as well. That really seems to be due to meddling of HBO and a very chaotic production process, different writers for every scene etc. Some scenes particularly around the very forced rebellion plotline and the atreides guy felt extremely amateurish and silly. But I really liked the character driven stuff with Valya and Tula, Desmond Hart was pretty intrigueing and I think the emperor also did a great job. It seemed like the show became a lot better around episode 3-5 and then the last one was kinda 50/50 for me. Again the Valya and Tula flashback scenes were really great. Valya's character arc by the way is very similar to that of a young Palpatine in the Darth Plagueis novel which I found really cool. And in a way you could say that Tula would be mirroring Anakin/Darth Vader's arc somewhat. I might be out on a limb here but I think some actors only really found their characters around episode 4. I noticed this particularly with Travis Fimmel, where he would start to really become the character in a way and also adopted a more unique way of speaking compared to his other roles. Even the atreides guy became better near the end. I almost got the sense like a lot of time had passed between filming the earlier stuff and then the later stuff and people had developed their characters more. Probably the biggest problem with the show was that there seemed to be a lack of direction, and a general vision for the season. It really accomplished a lot in those 6 episodes but I do hope for season 2 they make a better plan that they can actually stick to without any meddling from HBO. And more episodes.
I loved the show! Been a Dune fan for a while from reading the books but had been disappointed with previous attempts to bring this universe to the screen. When I heard that Denis Vellneuve was going to give it a go I was tentatively excited and he has delivered in spades! I wanted more but was likewise cautious about Dune prophecy knowing Denis was not a part of the project however, I thought the show had excellent writing great actors and acting and explored the universe deeper. The finale was unexpected and satisfying. Can’t wait for season 2!
Not watched it yet but starting it over 10 thousand years before the events of Dune is a massive mistake it makes it too far removed from what we all saw on the big screen with the films.
I disagree, my girlfriend who is not a dune fan but a Game of Thrones fan love this show. I am a huge dune fan and I only like this show. It really makes me admire Villeneuve s adaptation even more. The show is more Game of Thrones in space then it is dune. Also it really irks me how in 10.000 years they haven't progressed at all since in the show they have all the Technologies such as voice, Shields, face dancers etc. I was excited to see the dune universe as it was developing these Technologies...
honestly thought visuals and world building were up there with the new movies, no sacrifice there. And kept me intrigued enough to an exciting finale, can't wait for season 2
I did not like it at 1st but it really grew on me. Just rewatched it a 2nd time. I dare say it is better than the dune movies. Amazing actors, story, intrigue and visually beautiful.
The reason why the storyline of Dune Prophecy has nothing to say to us is not because it gets lost in the lore. It is because Brian Herbert changed the lore of his father in a way so that it has lost its meaning. You yourself start to approach the Bene Gesserit through their superpowers. This is Brian's way of dealing with them, e.g. the Sorceresses of Rossack. Frank on the other hand presents them through their spirituality and their religion-engineering. What meaning has the voice, truth-sense or other memory to us? Non! But the issue of personal growth through psychology or meditative practice is an issue we are currently debating. Because resilience is the topic between the political left and right in the public debate. Religious dominance in an atheistic world is the topic right now, when it comes to abortion. How much could the Bene Gesserits biochemical approach to religion tell us about this? A lot! How much does a machine virus tell us? Nothing!
As someone who hasn't had HBO Max for the past ~9 months, I didn't even know this show was out yet, and if I hadn't seen some pre-release hype on some forum posts, I wouldn't even know that it existed. I've seen plenty of advertisements for other HBO shows over the past year (Like House of the Dragon and The Penguin), but haven't seen anything about Dune Prophecy. Did HBO even spend any money on advertising this show? Because I'm not convinced that they did any advertising outside of their own platform.
Outside their main platform for the most part it was just the trailers, I don't think they put that budget into it like they did with other shows such as The Penguin.
@@filmobsessednerd Just In general that increasingly there has to be a kind of hand holding when a product/project isn’t simplified to the masses. Reminds me of coloring books levels, you have the complex ones and then the large outlines with jumbo lines lol
@@Wyatt-Midnight in fairness, hand holding has always been a thing, just look at video games. The whole "tips" stuff or when you take too long to figure out where you have to go. It just has to be done well.
I like how this show isn’t surrounded by any controversy and outrage discourse which have been the norm for the last couple of years. It’s a pretty well written adaptation of a huge sci fi phenomenon that in itself has multiple series of books. It’s complex and multilayered, and takes its time to establish certain story arcs. It reminds me of the old days when this type of quality was way more widespread.
I have read the Frank Herbert Dune books every two years or so since I was fourteen (now 51). I liked the ugliness of the Lynch film, but I found myself surprised at how much I loved the Villeneuve films. I considered them better than the books, because it compressed a lot and told through subtext. The plot pressures exerted on Paul to do something he was unwilling to do were way better than the book, and Chani's character was true to what a woman raised among the Fremen and limited to Fremen knowledge would think, do and say. She was the prototypical, one dimensional female support in the book. But this series ... you mean to tell me this little has changed in the Dune-iverse in 10,000 years? Really? Look at what our world has accomplished from 1824 to 2024. The Harkennons are the only ones to go from Scandinavian village whale trappers to techno-punk in that time period, and we've done that in three hundred years. The stagnation of humanity under Leto II makes sense, because he's there to suppress evolutions and maintain a rule. I'm certain without the proliferation of thinking machines, organic human abilities like the Weirding Way, the Voice and Mentat capacities all take a long time to evolve, but there was so little imagination put into this series as to how we got to the Dune we all know. Like another commenter here, new episodes caught me by surprise, because I really didn't care from episode to episode if I caught the next one. I didn't care about the princess, I didn't care about generic, good-looking Atreides guy -- and let's talk about Mr. Super Weapon making the same mistake every James Bond bad guy makes: he could have killed so many of the supposed protagonists, but he held off out of convenience so they could figure out how to transmute hisw weaon. There was so much done in this show out of plot convenience, so much of the social structure and aesthetic was not a de-evolution because someone in this show's development said, "Well, I mean, it's gotta LOOK like Villeneuve's Dune, right?" Another commenter said you have to pay attention to what's going on, but I would disagree; it was heavy-handed compared to Villeneuve's Dune. The scene where the Suk doctor is attempting to transmute the virus, they explained verbally every step happening. They either didn't trust the audience to know what was going on, they didn't trust the special effects to convey it, or both. It came off as Game of Thrones in Space when it needed to come off as Dune. Villeneuve was able to tell you what a Mentat was by having Thufir's eyes go white while he does an intense calculation in a second. Brilliant subtext. This show looks like Dune. Mission accomplished. But there are so many problems with it. Just my opinion.
If I may make a point about the whole "you mean to tell me this little has changed in the Dune-iverse in 10,000 years", would you compromise to say that the reason the show gives us that sense of it not changing much is because the films only show us one part of the whole universe? In the sense that since 95% of the Dune films takes place on Arakis we can't then see the rest of the universe and what it looks like.
@@IlyaKralinsky that's totally fair, I haven't read the Dune books and know nothing about Messiah, does Messiah take place a lot more outside of Arakis?
I love the world of Dune, and I've watched every show and film up until now. But the first episode opened with such dull exposition, I felt like I was being caught up on a whole season that I'd missed. I didn't understand anything I was hearing, and despite being well-versed in general Dune lore, I thought "Wow this must not be for me."
It's pacing was uneven, with too many side characters that pulled me away from the two sisters. If it had been a ten episode show, it might have worked better. The world building also suffered, since it seemed that everyone dressed and lived a quasi medieval lifestyle, despite being a human civilization tens of thousands of years in the future. I understand that much of that was a backlash against technology, but outside of the spaceport we saw in the finale, I saw little of how this future civilization truly functioned.
ya I'll say it again but no season of TV should be 6 episodes unless it's like a limited series show or a rare example of something like Peaky Blinders which did 6 episode seasons and was incredible
As soon as I saw 10k+ years before Paul Atreides come across the screen, in my mind that immediately meant backstory/lore/possible ancestors. So that sort of made me disconnect from the current story line. I LOVE a good backstory. And S1 delivered IMO.
I find it a bit disconcerting that the technology in the TV series version, set 10,000 years before the events of Dune, is at least as sophisticated and advanced, maybe more so, than Dune. So there has been no discernible technological progress whatsoever in 10,000 years?! 😵💫
@@filmobsessednerdThink of human civilization 10,000 years ago vs today. I think it was a missed opportunity to show an earlier version of the technology of Dune…on the order of a more sophisticated civilization like ancient Egypt.
@@filmobsessednerd the TV series establishes that it is 10,000 years prior to the events of the Dune films. This show is only loosely based on the novels, the writers for the TV series made all this history up.
The issue I had with the series is that some of the characters like Nez and the sword master aren’t very compelling. The Lila plot line is weak. Some stylistic choices, such as the nightclub, felt out of place and too much like Blade Runner. It also suffers from “ Star Wars Syndrome” where in a vast universe, it comes back to two families, Atreides and Harkonnen, like Star Wars does with Palpatine and Skywalker.
You’re spot on. Appears there can be more than one KH. Who knew? Classy production that pays respect to the Herbert’s writings. Not like that cheap’80s crap.
I had no trouble following the story without knowing the 10,000 year history of of the Dune Universe. It was great and I ljust loved it. But we live in a world were people can't love anything anymore. Everything is crap to one person or another. This video is proof of this.
@@filmobsessednerd Sorry. Maybe I read too much into your chapter title .. "The Biggest Problem With Dune Prophecy." I get it ... nothing is perfect ... but some things are good enough to overcome their weaknesses. For Dune Prophecy I really lkes the large cast of female actors - who carried the best part of the story.
Very good, but not without flaws. Even in the early episodes it's so jarring why Desmond Hart did not kill Valya when they first met, he could. And I am a bit unsure that the direction goes very magic/superpower with the Voice and the death-by-burning stuff.. I prefer it more science-fiction'y if you will. But I must admit the feel, ambience and characters are all created very well and really close to what Villeneuve have reached with the 2 movies.
The death by burning is a biological weapon, not supernatural/magic. It seemed that way, but because the show focuses on AI, there was more to it. And that’s what Tula discovered.
I binged the whole thing yesterday and I was absolutely disappointed. First of all, it looks offensively cheap. Sy-Fy in the 2010s cheap. Second, I could not find one character I actually cared about. Everyone was either annoying or boring, which made me "root" for Valya by default. Theodosia could have been an interesting character maybe, IF they had spent any time developing her character. Not to mention, other than the nameless soldiers, nobody, absolutely nobody could follow simple orders. If that's how the BG functioned at the beginning, I have no idea how they survived for 10.000 years. Also, I'm sorry but we don't need an Atreides involved in everything. Having Vorian Atreides's shadow presence hang like a sword over the sisters' heads would have been enough. Who tf cares about his boring great-great-grandson and his boring romance with the boring princess? Not me, that's for sure. The only good thing I could find was the stunning resemblance between the two actresses who played young and old Valya. That was some good casting right there. Other than that, it was a low quality show that wasted so much potential from the source material just to go for easy tropes.
I enjoyed it - but they really screwed up by letting the writers get away with making up the origin of "the voice" ... it's nonsensical that it just came about when a teenage girl was trying to save her brother from drowning - instead of being developed by the Bene Gesserit along with Prana-Bindu.
My struggle was it was too game of thrones in space , as someone who read the first 3 books , it was ok , haven’t finished watching it yet but will work through it
Tldr give us intriguing characters that we are sympathetic for but are cautious to root for Imo if dune prophecy had told valya's and tula's stiry in a more linear fashion and saced the more expensive stuff with the telelax and ixians for a second season it would have worked way better.
I mean the series isnt completly made for the mass audiences. It is for people who already watched and liked the Movies and especially for the ones that read the books. (even though there are some minor nitpicks that don´t fully make sense)
I thought it was absolutely tedious. I just hope it gets better, something more than people burning to death and the same flying tic tacs and endless nuns.
It wasn't a bad show, but I only watched it because I love the world of Dune. For me, the problem is that there is no character that I care about. It was only villain against villain. There was no character arc, nobody to care for.
Yaaaa sure...
But none of the character deserve empathy.
They all got their own Plans ......
Except for the kid who but grilled in first episode.🤧
In some ways ya it does feel like villain versus villain but in a way where you would hate one more than the other
Exactly
seems like it from the trailer...
2:32 Raised By Wolves, should have never been cancelled after 2 seasons, Travis practically plays the same exact character
Absolutely! The Travis' character was one of the weak points of the show to me. He's playing the same character "crazy fundamentalist" since Vikings.
So gutted it got cancelled, still hoping it might get picked up by another studio.
as a huge fan of vikings its hard for me no to see him as Ragnar, same complaint but hes such a good dramatic actor
Raised by Wolves was brilliant sci fi with a serious dollop of weirdness. Wish they had finished it out.
Mark Strong is an incredible actor, but it was a struggle to buy him as a naive buffoon emperor.
I did. He did it right
I think he played it well to make it seem like he was a misguided and tricked emperor but that can also come from notes of the directors and how they tell him to act. In that case Mark Strong is not the problem.
My Mother said after Episode 1, this is a weak man, and I was confused because I know the Actor from other roles, but in the end, she was right.

I'm sick of short seasons. Bring back the 10-13 episode seasons. And waiting 2 years for a season.😡
Agreed all around there!
It’s crazy! In the 2010’s most movies ran 90 minutes and series ran almost 20 episodes per season. Now movies run an average of 2.5 hours and TV shows rarely ever go over 10
@@gotmike interesting way to look at how the industry has changed in both media formats

Only fault for me in this series was having 6 episodes when it should've been about 11. Can't wait for S2!
It definitely needed at least 2 more episodes I am so sick and tired of the 6 or 7 episode crap
There was only plot for 6 episodes. Making it artificially longer would have only made it worse.

I think was the lack of marketing HBO do it this a lot the tv shows is really good.
I disagree, I saw a shit-ton of marketing for this show, it just didn't look interesting.
@@joaquindonoso5481 quality over quantity marketing is definitely important
Bro that hurt my head to read 😄
At first I didn't find the show particularly engaging, but I stuck with it till the end and realized this first season was actually a prologue for the main conflict that is hinted in the finale. I like that none of the characters are decidedly good or bad. The Valya-Desmond feud was intriguing, and the acolytes storyline was interesting, but the story still feels undercooked. I hope the next season improves on what's being built here and I really hope they make it look less cheap.
Ya this season felt a lot like a build up season and S2 will be the main story
The show finally found it’s rhythm in the season finale.
And what an incredible hour and a half of television it was! 🤯
So I personally feel the show has found itself-after a shaky beginning-and is poised to become something special.
I think episode 3 is where it started to pick up. The first two weren't particularly engaging.
That little girl who was an “abomination” but not really. Idk. But she really blossomed when she went from the little shy girl to the grandmother and her mother. I was like man She’s amazing! She was so timid and a side character. Then you’re like omg she’s gonna take over.

Also Dune is a slow burn which some don't like.
4:47 *10.148 years before the birth of Paul Atreides* -
Compare the earth any time and +10K years, it could also be 50 years before Paul Atreides is born, it looks pretty the same.
one of the core concepts in Dune is stagnation, that humanity and society hasn't evolved in a long time...
The show is based on a book that's not written by Frank ... so it's normal.
Let’s just say: Brian Herbert is no Christopher Tolkien.
@@Patrick-qedthat's because Christopher had a huge material left by his father to write about. Almost little to nothing was made up by him to the point some published stories simply didn't have any conclusion like in Unfinished Tales.

@@Aijendo me too, with corry.
…it certainly dumbs quite a lot down, especially compared to the movies. They were likely going for more general audiences
MAX stated that actually this show was the third most watched of 2024 on their platform. Yeah, it surprised me too but explains the second season greenlit
I get that for sure, I guess for a lot of people it just still wasn't worth talking about online
I hear you on this, the show in a way shrinks down the conflict of it all even though there are still great stakes at hand in the shows story

It’s really hard to comprehend how situations 133 generations before the events of Dune can lead to Paul.
Yes agreed. He has charisma and screen presence but his performance never makes me feel there is great depth
I like it! I thought it was well done and I like to see the background of the Bene gesserit and the dark past! I love the world building seeing the emperors palace and the Game of Thrones like politics. One of the things I love mentioned was the Ai war or war against thinking machines. I hope there is a second season.
This show should have been a single season that tells a complete story-the beginning, middle, and end.
people didn't talked about it but still a lot of people watched the show. when 5 episodes were released 17 million of people had watched the first one wich is a big number
Personally I really loved the show, and was very sad to discover we're gonna get only 6 episodes. I'm really excited for the next season and further.
Good way to look at it, thanks for sharing!
Some serious errors in your review:
I'm looking forward to Dune 2: The Dunening
Well it really does not have anything to do with the movie since it's based on Brian's books or "expanded Dune".
Also, agree that this series is esoteric and has a lot of references to lore that gets lost with the casual audience,
It was one of the best series of the year, and lots of people are talking about it, not sure where you got that title, guess its click bait.
This is just based off my personal opinion.
nah hes right i haven't seen or heard of anyone talking about this show, i tell all my friends about it and they had no idea what it was.
Na not really, my friends and I dropped off around ep 3. There was some buzz around the beginning but no one really even spoke about the finale
Maybe you and your immediate friends lmao but there’s hardly any discussion on this show except for maybe Dune centric TH-cam channels
Literally had no idea this show existed until yesterday..
I can totally hear you on all of those points
They need to fix some more structural aspects of next season for it to come off as wanting to be seen by people
For more Travis - "Raised By Wolves"on HBO...great scifi...I have no idea what was going on but I loved every moment of it! 😁
HBO no longer offers that show for viewing. Disappointed.
@@SCZelda what the hell, it is maybe one of the most unique series there is. They're morons for cancelling but removing it from their platform? That's insane
The show was a bit stiff emotionally, but I liked it. Any good science fiction is worth watching for me.
I will agree with you on that for sure
Yes plz watch “Vikings”!!! He will always b Ragnar Lothbrok!!!
i watched every season and spinoff, but objectivelsy speaking, Vikings is actually a very mediocre show, FROM THE START, yes, not just the late stuff. insufferable amount of llong winded dream/ surreal sequences early seasons.
@ wasn’t really speaking on the show itself jus Travis being Ragnar…first 3 seasons were actually gud then it went left…Bjorn actually kept me watching it 🤷🏾♂️ Last Kingdom in totality was a better series…at least too me
Totally enjoyed it, and hope more people give it a watch.
Thus is what the dune franchise needs ... Because the movie feels rushed but yet the are so long
Desmond is really an intriguing character and I liked what Travis Fimmel did considering the limitations of the script for his character.
This was so much better than I thought it would be. The writing was amazing for this.
I noticed this as well. In general of all the fandoms I interact with, dune prophecy seems more quiet. After episode two I started calling it dune of thrones and my husband is calling it that too now.
It’s one of my favorite prequel series in some time.
Feels like two major factors are impacting the show
A lot of people I tell about it, when I explain it’s a prequel to the films express immediate disinterest (which I feel is because of all the lackluster reboots spin offs prequels and sequels that have drops in the last 5/10 years)
The other is that a lot of ppl who enjoy sci-fi and witch media this year were busy with other selections because this has been such a big year for fantasy and sci-fi.
I think your baseball analogy also plays a major part as well it just wasn’t one I thought of until you presented it so thank you.
Ya I agree with some of your points, I think people just want to see the Denis movies continued as opposed to going back in the past. Competition definitely played a factor on what people chose to watch.
I've only seen Fimmel in this and in Vikings, so he may have more range, but to me Desmond Hart just feels like Ragnar Lothbrok in space
You might want to rethink that title.
Why would I want to rethink the title? That's my personal opinion why would I rethink something that I believe in?
only small bubble of fans are talking about.
So, by what I am reading in these comments there are people talking about this show, the title says NO ONE.
@@wynterfel so we arguing semantics now? lol
I loved it, I kept talking about it, I'm not a fan of Villeneuve's movies, and I liked this show much more. RIP David Lynch. His Dune was released when I was a teen and for me that's still the real Dune
RIP David Lynch
I loved it. Nice to have a show that wasn't all action and fights and explosions. That stuff is so tired and dull.
I really liked this show. In some ways it’s better than the movies, but that’s partly because you get more time & character development
Agreed
Yeah making that show at least 12 episodes would’ve did good to it
Not watched it yet but starting it over 10 thousand years before the events of Dune is a massive mistake it makes it too far removed from what we all saw on the big screen with the films.
It has been one of the best TV shows of 2024 and I am looking forward to season 2
2:17 if you like Travis I highly recommend giving “Raised by Wolves” a try. His character in it is phenomenal.
Dune prophecy was a very good TV show, and I love how they did it
2:39 raised by wolves
Nothing!
I liked the first five episodes and loved the finale which brought it all together very well. I'm intrigued where they decide to take S2
Us hardcore Travis Fimmel fans came straight to Dune Prophecies to heal our Raised by Wolves heartbreak….
i think we are seeing the formation of the sadakar once Valia wins back power
I knew what you were going to say before I even clicked the thumbnail. I think it says more about us than anything
In what way? Referring to your point about it saying more about us.
@filmobsessednerd That's a fantastic point. Thank you for that. It makes sense. I really only have our recent human history as a point of comparison.
Travis Fimmel is amazing in Vikings TV series !!
So I've heard!
Agree. Show should have more episodes....general i really like it.
As soon as I saw 10k+ years before Paul Atreides come across the screen, in my mind that immediately meant backstory/lore/possible ancestors. So that sort of made me disconnect from the current story line. I LOVE a good backstory. And S1 delivered IMO.
I adore Dune - books
Loved the adaptations.
And really enjoyed Dune:Prophecy once it was ended. I legit can’t wait for seasons 2!!
I find it a bit disconcerting that the technology in the TV series version, set 10,000 years before the events of Dune, is at least as sophisticated and advanced, maybe more so, than Dune. So there has been no discernible technological progress whatsoever in 10,000 years?! 😵💫
I could totally see how that would throw people off although who knows what conflicts took place since then that maybe set technology back
@@filmobsessednerdThink of human civilization 10,000 years ago vs today. I think it was a missed opportunity to show an earlier version of the technology of Dune…on the order of a more sophisticated civilization like ancient Egypt.
@@BonanzaRoad wait... hold on. Doesn't the first movie take place in the year 10191? So what year is the show then?
@@filmobsessednerd the TV series establishes that it is 10,000 years prior to the events of the Dune films. This show is only loosely based on the novels, the writers for the TV series made all this history up.
@@BonanzaRoad so then the timeline part is what doesn't make any sense then. What year would they be in lmao. They'd be all the way in the far past.
This show wasn’t that bad, looking forward to season two,
I had no trouble following the story without knowing the 10,000 year history of of the Dune Universe. It was great and I ljust loved it. But we live in a world were people can't love anything anymore. Everything is crap to one person or another. This video is proof of this.
My guy how is my video proof of it? When did I say the show was crap? I thought the show was good I make that abundantly clear!
@@ericmatthews8497 uh ok well I did say in my thumbnail it was good so make sure you read everything next time
Very good, but not without flaws.
To varying degrees I understand where you're coming from. I agree with some of your points and disagree with others.
I enjoyed it - but they really screwed up by letting the writers get away with making up the origin of "the voice" ... it's nonsensical that it just came about when a teenage girl was trying to save her brother from drowning - instead of being developed by the Bene Gesserit along with Prana-Bindu.
My struggle was it was too game of thrones in space , as someone who read the first 3 books , it was ok , haven’t finished watching it yet but will work through it
Actually I think Dune Prophecy is more interesting than both movies.
Hey all power to you I disagree on that though
Tldr give us intriguing characters that we are sympathetic for but are cautious to root for
Imo if dune prophecy had told valya's and tula's stiry in a more linear fashion and saced the more expensive stuff with the telelax and ixians for a second season it would have worked way better.
The fact that it was only 6 episodes was the reason I gave it a chance to begin with jaja. Good show nonetheless
I mean the series isnt completly made for the mass audiences. It is for people who already watched and liked the Movies and especially for the ones that read the books. (even though there are some minor nitpicks that don´t fully make sense)
Dune enlightens faith believers at how they got manipulated by the system
I really enjoyed the show! Agree re: episode count but that’s the struggle now that WB owns HBO
I thought it was absolutely tedious. I just hope it gets better, something more than people burning to death and the same flying tic tacs and endless nuns.
I agree with your every criticism
