      It’s not that the west doesn’t want to show it’s that Africans are not participating in telling the story!! These stories and writings are beautiful. Most western non profits are trying to generate donations/funds and show the worst of Africa because that’s their line of work. Africans don’t validate fashion, dancing and acting until the west validates it….. it’s time Africans start participating in story telling and SHARE it since it is the core of African culture!

    The progress of cinematography in african sitcoms is just impeccable. I do wish Nigerian shows would use shots like these; it just adds that international standard...

    I'm so happy to see programme that shows the journey back home. I'm Zambian born been in London since I was 4 and I'm now 29 I plan on returning next year and the thought is scary and exciting all at once. I know how people at home can treat you like a foreigner in your own birth country but it's my home. I just hope to meet like minded people and settle in. I always love home and I know it will be a huge change but one I look forward to. Fingers crossed!

    That main character girl went to Rutgers! Either way, whether you like the characters or not, the acting is on point. They're basically letting people in on the conversations often had by people who haven't returned home in years and didn't have their parents recreating little Africa to the max in their homes. I guess the issue is that these are typically private conversations, and thus, the controversy begins. Love it! :)

      @red84ro 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Cadence Opera up until a couple of years ago there were about 50 black people in Romania, or at least it felt that way. We would never see them on the streets but we would see them on tv- we have several black (mostly mixed) tv show hosts, news anchor, singers etc. Recently I've seen a lot more black people, and mixed couples And to answer your question- I'm not sure, some people are assholes, but most, would treat you like any other foreigner- with a lot of interest towards the place where you're from and and interest in getting to know you. It also helps that you're a good looking woman. I am sure you'll be fine there :)

    Blew me away. Lucidity, Camera work, sound/picture quality, clear speech, not a single uncessary scene. Whole concept is dope. Has a message for both Africans living in or outside Africa. Humor ain't bad either.
    I'm rather appreciating this work than being analytic. Just dope!

    The people making negative comments probably still watch crappy Ghanaian and Nigerian movies all the time. Now you have standards huh *rolls eyes*
    I found the writing to be extremely strong. As someone who has returned home as an adult this exactly the type of things you've heard and the exact conversations you've had with your "returned" friends. It's 100% accurate and it resonated with me very strongly. I'm loving it so far!

      My husband is from Ghana. He visits once a year but wont move back. Ghanaians (sp?) are trying to move to the States and once they get here they don't move back there. LOL
      That speaks volumes to me! I've never been to Ghana and frankly... I don't have a desire!

    • @melanie-judedawson5986
      @melanie-judedawson5986 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every Ghanaian I know, and I know many, owns property in Ghana as well as the US. My husband Is Ghanaian and it was an act of congress to get him to leave. Many come to the us then go directly back home. Because white western nations make migration so difficult for non-white people, many migrants fear going back home to visit bc they may not be allowed back to whatever country they migrated from. Lucky for you, you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth so these aren't things you had to worry about. I'm sure your "husband" enjoys his Ghanaian vacations (& probably his second family) from your ignorant ass and tells you these things so he can have peace of mind. 💅🏿💅🏿💅🏿💅🏿💅🏿💅🏿💅🏿💅🏿

I've always wanted to try out living somewhere in Africa but I don't have any one there who can help and I am so"American" I'm not sure I would adjust well. All that being said, thanks for this! For those who keep saying this is not or representative of Africa I first of all I hope you are African, second of all if you guys who think of the stereotypical Africa they keep showing on TV as africa well that's not Africa; third of all this show mostly relates to those who are African but are born in a different country. Some of the things they are talking about I fan relate to everytime i go visit Ghana.

    Funny how every country in Africa is so similar. I went to Kenya last October after being in the states for seven years and my second day there I woke to take a shower and there was no water. I mentally stated freaking out for a few seconds then remembered that water gets turned off on Mondays. Then on my last week there water went out for a whole week. STILL LOVE AFRICA regardless.

    • @joycenounke1408
      @joycenounke1408 10 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      LOL African countries are far from being similar girl. Maybe amongst english speaking countries yes, but a french speaking country like Senegal is very different from kenya, from Morocco, from South Africa in so many ways. If anything, I'm glad your loved your journey in Africa. :)

      Joyce Nounke How about living in a an apartment and their is no running water. Theire is all the plumbing, but we have to haul water in order to take a bath and cook, clean, etc. You don't waste water when you have to haul it in yourself. If I have to pee, I don't flush the toilet, I'll flush it when several of us have peed. Do you know I have to take the top off and fill the bowl. You only do this with family.

    I am Jamaican and have lived in America for most of my life, I can imagine returning to Jamaica permanently would be somewhat of a culural change for me even though I visit there annually. I appreciate these ladies perspective, as that's all it is!; their perspective not a representation of all returnees.
