    4runnerlifestyle is the worst company to do business with. Their delivery system is just not working

    First, I love the look and this has been my #1 choice when I have been looking, but I have three engineering questions:
    Q1) Is the Air Flow adequate for use with a Supercharger?
    Q2) Is there a “sock” type pre-filter to cover the top opening typically used in very dusty, off-road conditions?
    Q3) Usually the snorkel intake opening is up and away from the vehicle to get it out of the airflow because dust moving around the vehicle is compressed and flows near the surface. Facing backwards doesn’t make a difference. Isn’t this a functional issue? It might be nice if there was an add on for serious off road use to move the opening up and away just a bit. Even a three or four inches would probably be a big improvement.

      Yeah, I haven't been able to answer these either...
      Q1. I think this can be fairly quickly calculated by the snorkel diameter and this seems on the small size so there will probably be less air volume moved compared to larger snorkels but is this insufficient air delivery? I am unsure. I've heard some snorkels have collapsed due to the air pull of a supercharger and maybe thats why these are carbon fiber? Not really sure to be honest. Maybe alphaequipt could comment on this if you contact support. They may be smaller and still usable because they are carbon fiber.
      Q2. I haven't seen a filter used on these snorkels before but most don't have them that I have seen.
      Q3. Maybe so, I've read that the opening facing backward helps substantially over it facing forward...I'm not too sure.
      I'll be honest, I didn't get into the weeds on this one. I knew the air would be better than right above the tire in the wheel well. I knew the air would be colder rather than near the engine in the wheel well, and this was the only snorkel I would consider given the profile. So far my mileage per gallon has not decreased at all and I think that would be a basic indicator that the air flow is getting choked. For maximum performance, one of those mushroom looking filter on a massive diameter snorkel is probably ideal. Alphaequipt has not really posted any sort of specs, everything I have seen is anecdotal with not so helpful data.

    You can get a waterproof seal from the taper and box side with a Silicon hose and some Clamps also 17:30 permatex can be a paint to remove and you eould have to use it everytime the airbox is removed

    Carbon fiber on a snorkel, probably the worst idea someone could've come up with. Okay for mall crawlers just doing it for the looks, I've had plenty of experience with carbon fiber and it ends up always in the same crack/fading. Any minor hit and you'll have a small crack and you'll find out once there is already water in the intake, I'm not a fan of ARB snorkels and think they are overpriced but when hit by something in the trail they take it like a champ or just a small dent but not crack. They could've done the same design with the same material as other snorkels, carbon fiber requires a lot of maintenance.

    Love these carbon snorkels. I would recommend getting it ceramic coated or maybe PPF the outer face of it cause I've seen the sun kinda ruin that nice finish over time. Just a suggestion!

    Thanks for the video... gives me some good insight as I check off my wish list. I've had my eye on a low profile snorkel for sometime. I just finished my magnuson sc install, about 2k miles so far and it's excellent, minus hitting the torque limiter in first.... working on that grimlin. Next install is switch pro / power tray and a compressor of some sort. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

      Nice, man I want to test drive a supercharged rig so bad. Some day. I think I will get one...I haven't found very good documentation on whether a supercharger works well with a snorkel though.
      Also, I would heavily recommend considering a garmin powerswitch. Better in almost every way in my opinion. Powertrays sells a mount but Blaze Offroad sells mounts too

    • @vorsol1994
      @vorsol1994 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cool, I'll check Garmin out.
      Yea man the SC is worth it imo, especially for highway travel. Pull's like a beast in 2nd and 3rd.. and I have a ton of extra weight from bumper/winch, skid plates and stuff. Took me a solid 2 days to install myself, wasn't really difficult just 180 small intricate steps, and rerouting the sc rad. pump due to winch location.
      But the engine is very happy with it, runs like a dream.
      Again, with the 400 ft-lb torque limiter issue, hence with SC, cold air and exhaust, my napkin math put's it at just over 415 hp / 425 torque to the crank. So it pulls throttle back on 100% 1st gear pulls, Like an on/off/on/off sensation due to the limiter. But for off road/highway there's no issue.
      I've been digging for a work around, but I will need to find a specialty shop that exclusively works on Toyota and understands the modern 2020+ ECU limitations/encryption/workarounds. My only gripe with the SC so far, otherwise it's been an amazing upgrade.

    • @OverlandEngineer
      @OverlandEngineer  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vorsol1994 Dang, do you have an IG? Could you message me? I didn’t know there was a torque limiter like that installed or is that a 2020+ thing? The numbers I’ve seen, these get like 320 ft lb torque up from like 230 stock…I’ve also heard that a cold air intake can ruin the SC and they require stock air box. Have you accounted for all these things through different adjustments? Also, you did this DIY so now I’m very interested.

      @@OverlandEngineer Hey, I do not, but I could set one up.. not a big Meta fan.. However, I do have a private discord if there's a way to send you that info... easy way to share some stuff.
      No issues with the CAI , frankly I like the idea that the SC gets all the air it needs, the stock box is pretty restrictive. Don't see how that would hurt it to have more efficient air flow.
      v6 4.0-liter stock 270 horsepower / 278 lb-ft
      SC adds 30% or about 90 hp.
      CAI adds about ~30hp
      Exhaust adds about ~20hp.
      I haven't done a dyno yet, but again napkin math puts me in the ~410 hp / 420 tq range... plus hitting that torque limiter proves I am over the 400 mark. Still researching a definitive answer.

      @@vorsol1994which CAI intake do you have that adds 30hp?
      I'm really wanting to do a supercharger on mine. But I feel like I should wait until I've done lift, sliders and especially front bumper for the reason of having to move at cooler and other stuff. Hate to have to move it all again to fit bumper and winch. Mine is a 2010 limited so there's additional fitment challenges that don't apply to any other models 😅

    hey, around 12:18 , you can drill out that white carbon filter on the upper air box, if you already have a hard K&N air filter, all the carbon filter does is nothing beside restrict air and an emission device that really does nothing , I grill out the melted plastic tabs and pull the white filter out on all my 3.3 and 3.5 Toyota cars

      They are all different. Fitment was terrible on my first one, which faded after a year and the gel coating started cracking. Template was way off. Received a replacement as their customer service was good. Second did not fit, had to open holes and does not sit on the A- pillar as well. I’m the same, wanted low profile and it works like a snorkel should, and they replaced, so I can’t complain too much. I wrapped my second one and I do recommend some kind of coating for the sun.
