My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ TH-cam. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of TH-cam I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on TH-cam won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different

He was the first black artist to host a nationwide show in the USA. It was _The Nat King Cole Show,_ on NBC, beginning in 1956. It lasted a little over a year and had good ratings. Unfortunately, it was killed by racism -- NBC could never find any nationwide advertisers for the program. After it's demise, Nat was quoted as saying, "Madison Avenue is afraid of the dark." ("Madison Avenue" used to be a common shorthand phrase for large advertising firms, several of which were located on Madison Avenue in New York City.)
You can find a few episodes of the show if you look around they are still very entertaining.

well, advertisers are always afraid of everything that consists of the remotest risk. It's not limited to race. I work in a corporate job, and most marketing folks are hacks who are so disconnected with reality and the greater culture and merely think they know what the trends are. In 1956, it's fear of a black man being unpalatable to people. In 2020, it's fear of Twitter. Advertisers aren't racist per se, they just stand for nothing but the bottom line
The one thing I read, and still find rerribly distressing, as a white woman, is when Nat K. C was successful he had a house in L. A, and 2 boxer dogs that he adored . Racists threw poisoned meat into his garden and killed them. What a cowardly, evil, disgusting thing to do. Probably one the clearest, most perfect voices ever. Try "When I Fall in Love".
He was also an excellent jazz pianist. One of the vocal gods. His daughter , Natalie, inherited the vocal talent. After he passed, she sang a gorgeous duet with this film of him. It was a big hit.

I have always loved Nat King Cole's voice. Its just smooth as butter. Other favorite songs of his are Mona Lisa, Walking My Baby Back Home, and Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer.

HISTORY - in the 1940's and 1950's the most popular style of music was "crooning" (romantic singing like this song) Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole were big artists in this type of music. In the mid 1950's Rock N Roll was born because younger people wanted more upbeat music to dance to (like Elvis Presley)

It's never too soon for The Christmas Song. Mel Torme (The Velvet Fog) co-wrote it in the middle of a summer heat wave. They were so hot that they decided to write a song about the coldest things they could think up.
Ah yes, the man with the velvet voice. I was a teenager in the 80s when I first fell in love with Nat. My friends thought I was crazy, lol.

The song was written by Irving Gordon and Nat King Cole was the first to sing it (on his album which released in 1952). I think he called it an oldie here because it was years before the day he was singing it on this video.
"Unforgettable" was written by Irving Gordon. The song his daughter sang "with" him was about 30 years after his death. You've GOT to check that one out, even if it's not to do as a reaction; just for your own enjoyment. It's one of the most touching things I've ever seen. It was this song...unforgettable...and it WAS unforgettable. Great reaction to this lovely classic.

I'm over fifty and still have tears welling up when I hear the duet with his daughter Natalie, though done after his passing, which is a beautiful tribute to Nat. Sadly we've lost Natalie as well. As beautiful as her father's voice and as graceful as his presence.
Oh, yeah. When Nat King Cole looks straight into the camera and radiates the full power of his charisma, he pretty much melts the entire television audience. And the sly confidence in his smile tells you he knows exactly what he's doing.
It would have been a terrifying superpower if he had ever used it for evil. Fortunately for America, he only used it for good.

One of the best vocalist of any era.
Nat King Cole was my dad's favorite singer. He was crazy good, unimaginably good. He hit every single note perfectly, perfect precision.
Nat "King" Cole was one of the all time class acts in American music. He had his own TV show in the 50's and he was known by most of the public as a crooner but in fact Nat was a terrific piano player who had his own trio (The Three Blazes) and started making great records in the 40's. You should react to "Mona Lisa" and "Nature Boy". better yet buy his greatest hits CD and you'll be doing it smart. And don't forget Ray Charles doing "Let's Go Get Stoned", "What'd I Say", "Eleanor Rigby", and "America" thank you , love your reactions to these great artists, Ray and Nat are pure gold.

He could sing ANYTHING. He recorded a Spanish language album that was called “ Cole en Espanol.” It came out in the mid -50s while we were living in Venezuela. My dad loved it.

I liked to listen to the great music of my parent's generation and Nat King Cole was at the top of the list! My favorite song sang by him is "Stardust"
One of my favorites pf his songs is L.O.V.E. He breaks down every letter in the word for a line of this song. "L is for the way you look at me."
His song "When I Fall In Love" is one of the most beautiful recordings ever made. Play that song along with the Righteous Brothers and you and your girl won't be going anywhere outside of the house for at least 12 hours.

I grew up listening to Nat King Cole for my grandmother great grandmother LOL and I absolutely loved his voice I would sit and listen to him for hours on a record player because that’s what they had and I always thought he was so elegant when I seen him on TV so self possess and absolutely charming by the way I love the duet that his daughter Natalie made

Nat "King" Cole is one of the most important artists in history, and certainly is one that every African American should know because of his historical significance. He was the first African American to host his own prime time network TV show, and he was one of the biggest music stars in America in the 1950s, right up there with Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and others of that ilk. His daughter, Natalie Cole, also had a fine career as a singer, and if you want to watch and listen to something that will give you goosebumps, go find Natalie's live performance of "Unforgettable." She released it as a single in the 1980s, and the video, which shows her performing it live with her late father's image projected on the big screen behind her as the two of them sing a duet (his parts pre-recorded, obviously, since he was long since deceased) will bring tears to your eyes and joy to your heart. The first time I saw her sing it, they projected a hologram of her father Nat (this was right about the time they first developed holograms) and it was stunning.
Some of Nat's other songs you should consider are "L-O-V-E," "Autumn Leaves," and the song that always gets me, "Smile," which was written by silent film star Charlie Chaplin very early in the 20th century, and has been recorded by countless artists, including Michael Jackson. But Nat "King" Cole's version is, in my opinion, THE version of it.

He was one of my mom's favorite singers. He was a contemporary of Frank Sinatra Dean Martin Sammy Davis jr. When ever I want to just relax and forget about the world I love to listen to the great crooners sing. This style of singing was very popular especially when the big bands were popular. I would love to see some reactions to the big band like Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman. You can find them on TH-cam there's quite a bit of video out there considering how long ago that was.

Nat king Cole is a legend. His voice was so soothing. My mom loved Nat King Cole. Nat was a Jazz singer and Pianist. He also sang R&B and Ballads. He recorded over 100 songs that were hits. He also acted in films, television, and Broadway. He was the first African-American to host a T.V. show, in the United States. He's the father of singer songwriter, Natalie Cole. They have both passed on.

Grew up hearing this on repeat as my folks owned the vinyl LP and their media was mine. And his appearance was as smooth and handsome as his voice. When people talked about black people in those days, this is a man who always came to my mind as someone I genuinely admired and looked up to and wished I could become like. Quietly and gently, Nat King Cole won as many hearts as ever did Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (another legend of the time).
I was around 12 when he died, I was heartbroken, even at that young age I appreciated him and his kind face.

Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole's duet of the same song is absolutely gorgeous. They had to cut her father's version so she could sing parts to make it seem as though they sang it together as a duet. He died in 1965, but the duet version was released in 1991. It was such a moving rendition allowing father and daughter to sing together.

Like me, I think a lot of the young people of my day got introduced to the top singers of the previous generation by listening to compilation albums of Christmas songs. Because of the joy of the season, the older vocal stylings were more acceptable and accessible in their Christmas songs. We, of course, were exposed to these same artists on their TV shows or when they appeared on other singer’s TV shows. The 60s and Ed Sullivan brought in a whole new style of music, but that constant of having these mainstream artists of the 50s coming around every Christmas kept their voices close to our hearts. Nat King Cole was a Christmas giant.
