I wish they made games like this again. No need to purchase extra stuff, no power ups/experience points to upgrade anything, no need to go and collect items in some never ending treasure. Just create a good story, an awesome character with preset items, great level design and bam. You have a great game you can pick up and play any time without dedicating tens of hours of your life
@@td-1105 those type of games feel how a game like this would be like in today’s technology. It’s sad me not stressing out in a video game is actually nostalgic..
I’m amazed at how different the PS2 version is to the Xbox (and PC I guess?). The cutscenes seem so much better on PS2, they give way more backstory such as actually seeing Blaustein and Madison at the start.
The game does looks good on the PlayStation 2 as well, despite the redesigning and optimization. I like how the additional mission here is much more bigger than the Xbox downloadable maps, which is actually part of the Russian missions that were deleted completely to save development time.
I'm back it's been years since we last updated on gaming well I recently earned platinum trophy 89# Splinter cell HD: Took me 5 playthroughs and over 60+ hours for the plat Hard mode= 15+ hours Normal mode= 15 + hours Normal= 15+ hours Hard= 15+ hours Normal= 15+ hours Final notes: Stealth operative & Passive aggression are glitched.
@@PlayStationPaul for stealth operative trophy(no alarms) & passive aggression(no more than 3 kills on all 9 levels) these required me to finish a full playthrough for 15 hours solid in 1 sitting for both because it's glitched and quitting the game screws up the progress...it's a port of the PC version.
PS2 and Xbox Version of this game are the best, and PS3 but I hope they remaster this game and release it on the PS5 and Xbox Series X S and Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory...and I hope Splinter Cell Conviction.
I have the GBA, Xbox and PC versions in that order and I always wanted to see how the "SD" versions of Splinter Cell like this one differed for a couple of reasons: 1. My GBA copy has the Uzelka Submarine and Nuclear plant levels from the Xbox expansion pack and this port respectively and I wanted to see the original levels. 2. I first saw how different they were in the PSP game Splinter Cell essentials when it covered Double Agent levels, being vastly different from the Xbox 360 game. The Xbox Classic version of Double Agent was where I was led to first but I think it's different to even Essentials at the points that game covered, I need to look it up again to make sure. Speaking of the PSP game, I always found it was stupid that they changed the Caspian Oil Refinery level from day to night, meaning you couldn't see shit without night vision, but I guess the PS2 & Gamecube ports are where they got that idea from. The difference being that the PS2 version has better lighting compared to the PSP version of the level. Maybe the Essentials version of Chaos Theory's New York level was based on the SD version of that game as well.
I've finished PSP Essentials and PS2 Double Agent. From what I remember PSP Essentials is effectively a re-imagining of PS2 Double Agent with some older levels thrown in. There are differences in the levels and the story, which even borrows aspects from the "next gen" version of Double Agent. Essentials also has some parts that are unique to that game. Interestingly PSP Essentials was actually released several months before Double Agent, so perhaps it's Double Agent that's the "re-imagining". One thing's for sure, when the series got to Double Agent it split into three different timelines.
PlayStationPaul Yeah, though Essentials is more a mini sequel (despite releasing before Double Agent) where we mostly just replay old levels, which are framed as Grimsdotter discovering Agent Williams attempting to frame Sam as having always been a terrorist in the making, setting up Conviction. There are some new levels as well such as Sam's time in the SEALs, a SAM launcher in Russia (I think it was Russia?), a steel mill in Warsaw, Indiana and the NSA HQ leading to a cliffhanger where Sam plans to hunt and interrogate Williams that was never really followed up on. Speaking of the three timelines and going by the HD universe one, it's a crying shame how in Conviction, Lambert's death is considered canon even though apart from once just to see it, I never killed him when I played Double Agent and shot Jamie instead in the hope that Lambert would live.
@@lionocyborg6030 I seem to remember not killing Lambert but he still died anyway. It's been a while since I played them though, which was roughly around the same time, I played all three. I haven't played Conviction as it never came out on PlayStation which was my main system, but I have the Steam version now so will try it one day.
PlayStationPaul In the Xbox 360 version, Lambert also does the same death speech if you avoid killing him but it's more ambiguous if he actually dies or not, so it's more likely he survives (retcon in conviction notwithstanding). I haven't played the Xbox Classic/PS2 version (yet) so I don't know how similar that particular part is.
Tom Clancy is no longer with us. Died in 2013. He was actually a novelist; he mainly created the characters and stories. They still produce stuff with his IPs though, so another Splinter Cell is possible.
I really wish if they made a PS1 version of this back in 2002, it would sell quite well and would be interesting considering the area's are not too big ps1 should handle it with reduced graphics, AI etc.
The ps2 version of this is so much better! It’s actually dark enough that you need to use your goggles in some sections, along with all the mechanics they introduced for a stealth/spy game
Ubisoft still makes good (but not absolutely high quality games), so that is a bug bear of mine. Ubisoft games are fun, but their overall game design formula is dated. I still love Far Cry for its characters and story, but the gameplay formula needs a complete overhaul. They unnecessarily create a big map with essentially copy and past side quests and activities outside of the main story. Far Cry 6 is exactly this. Memorable characters and great story, but the rest of the game becomes a chore to go through. Let’s just hope the rumored new Splinter Cell is a linear 15-20 hour story experience instead of this massive open world.
Perhaps not a big free roaming landscape like Far Cry, but an open world Splinter Cell could be good if it was done like an Arkham game, in that kind of overworld / dungeon structure. Where obtained equipment gave Sam Fisher access to new parts of the environment. Returning to earlier areas with upgraded hacking, lockpicking gear, weapons etc, would be cool.
@@aedriannjazedeocampo9436 I'm not sure, you would be in a better position to research that as I'm from the UK. Some Amazon sellers will ship abroad, you'd just need to pay extra shipping. There was even a trilogy bundle of Tom Clancy games on PS2 too!
