    I am SO glad Splitter shows up in the mixer now - no more having to hunt down which tracks have it!!! Thanks Studio One, and as always thank you Joe for your in-depth example!

    That's really great. I'm working with Studio ONE for some years now, but I never was aware of the "Splitter Tool" and always thought I don't need it... when I did parallel compression I always did it via an effect channel. Your way seems much more compact and easier to control. Thanks.

    I was very hesitant on trying to use the splitter in previous versions of Studio One. Thanks Pre Sonus and Joe Guilder for making it extremely easy and simple to use. 😀

    M-S Splitter not working correctly in Studio One, phase issues.
    Split M-S and reverse-phase with the original track, there is no silence!
    I try in Ableton and Bitwig it's perfect.
    but in my main Daw (STUDIO ONE 5.2) it's not working.
    i can make a video if you like
    please fix it ...

    this is what Presonus needs to do more of, deep dives on features that are a bit more hidden away. No point creating lots of great functionality if its buried away (i'm looking at you Cubase)

    I recently watched a video showing how to process kicks to get a nice rumble sound in between the beats. He sent the kick to two additional tracks to apply different effects to each in a another production software. As he described what he was doing showing diagrams that immediately looked like Splitter. it was funny how intuitive the diagrams were and look like splitter. It was so easy to setup in Studio One.

    Hey Joe. I have a kick drum that I split. Nn the second split channel, I added a bunch of delay, bitcrush, etc. Now I want to sidechain the second channel to the original kick to duck it. I added compressor on the 2nd split channel but no sources are available in the compressor sidechain. IS this available or am I doing this wrong? Thanks!

    This is amazing so glad I switched to this, so many people sleep on this daw and they are messing up

  • @SR1B
    @SR1B 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Only issue: when you add Splitter and mute the second branch in order to basically get the dry signal, the volume drops by 6dB compared to the dry signal you had before adding Splitter.
    In other terms: when your parallel process with Splitter, you have 6dB less dry signal.
    That may or may not mess your gain staging up, so gotta be aware of this.

    • @crusherxxx7
      @crusherxxx7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is 6dB precise? I've just switched to Studio One for mastering but this thing is driving me crazy. If raising up the lever after the split can work that's super cool

    • @SR1B
      @SR1B 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@crusherxxx7 6.02dB is the precise number (more exactly the value is 20*log(2) which equals to 6,0205999132796239042747778944899......)

      I saw this problem too. Unfortunately, it's still there and I don't like it. In other words, you can't use this to perform true parallel processing. Something like Waves Studio Rack is unfortunately required for this. Its a shame because I like Studio One's stock plugins a lot.

    If your using a hardware compressor you can just dial in a 50% wet/dry mix on pipeline xt. Or use a software compressor with a wet/dry knob.

    I love everything about Presonus and S1. I was a long Cubase user, but with their atrocious customer service, this last one over 3 months to resolve an issue, and their reluctance to update their drivers quickly, still no updates for Big Sur, I hoped on completely to S1. Presonus gets back within 3-5 days, and S1 is soooooooo user friendly. Love it. Never again Steinberg!

    Your channel is the best Joe. You are very direct to teach. By the way, you can also use parallel compression to enhance the punchyness of the drumming also? I believe that in this case you are enhancing the sustain of the drumming by levelling the decay of the sound with its attack. Isnt it like that? thank you very much.

    That's cool. Splitter reminds me of Image-Line's "Patcher" in FL. Super dope! (I use Studio One AND FL). I do production, composition, sound design, and arrangement in FL. Then I export the .FLAC stems into Studio One and do Mixing and Vocal Processing in the "Songs" module, then export to the "Projects" module to Master.

    It would be nice to have splitter tool in Artist version too.. Artist version has many tools, which can serve the purpose of small home studio, but this tool for easy parallel processing is really missing :/ I think, that parallel compression is something, that even less experienced and less equipped artist knows and needs. It would be very nice to have it there..
    Otherwise, great job with the new version, thank you for your work!

    They should add just a mix knob to the FAT Channel, it would be way easier for us to do parallel processing. Also, we need a fader after the split to compensate the extra gain when we sum the dry and processed channels.

    It would be nice to be able to do side chain compression inside the splitter from one branch of the splitter to the other. Instead of being able to select only a channel in the input of your sidechain, to be able to select the other branch of the splitter as input for side chain. This is what Audio effect rack does in ableton.

    VERY VERY good tutorial...and funny, too. This "split signal" business in S1 is sweet. Imagine the possibilities for sound design! Sigh. I do wish S1 allowed destructive editing or allowed you to efficiently send audio out for external processing. There must be a good reason why they don't have that option. Maybe someone can enlighten me as to why?

    Im trying to remain calm "presonus" Joe but the latency and lag is back!!!
    It started on the studio one 4.6 update for some of us but not enough for presonus to really care about.
    That is until the disastrous version 5 or presonus vista 😁 they got onto it quick then hey?
    So after having a DAW that was completely unreliable since 4.6 I haven't used studio one since March of last year.
    I heard that you had fixed the problem, so a month ago I started with the supposedly corrected 4.6 and all was well until today 😤
    The latency started on a song I did the instruments on last week when I went to do a vox then the lag about 20 minutes later on the rhodes in the native presence track I was recording.
    Opened up the tracks with Amplitude 4 from last week, you guessed it latency.
    And before all the posers start support don't have a clue haven't for 18 months and it starts with a analog instrument one time and a plug in another across 6 different audio interfaces.
    I even booked an hour of Studio time with a guy who has a few presonus consoles and the latency and lag issue was present on the same songs as with the other interfaces and even popped up while the cocky engineer was telling me how it was something I had done when bam it hit him 😆
    He had my laptop for 3 days and then gave up.
    Has the issue been solved "presonus" Joe? Or is this a mceneney type situation and I have to ask "corner" Joe?

    • @1972OGTony
      @1972OGTony 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Theoretically you can turn down the volumes of each split signal but it doesn't make sense because you can't modify the curves and you have a set limit of split frequencies in the splitter.

    Is this splitter a useful option while RECORDING for example vocals? I am working with two tracks (channels) while recording my acoustic guitar or vocals. I use this youtube video as a guideline (th-cam.com/video/qt429tCw05o/w-d-xo.html ). I am fairly new to home recording. So is there an easier way to monitor for a singer? I use headphones while recording in my fairly small room. I love S1! One audio track I use for actually recording vocals. The second audio track I use for leading the signal to a different FX channel. On the FX channel I put reverb which I can dial in to preference.

    I Know the instructors on my course would poo-poo the idea of putting compression as an insert. Theya re all about using one aux xhannel with compression on it, then routing all your instruments for compression to that aux chanel. to reduce the drain on your cpu. I never understood that as different instruments will need different levels of compression. Plus they teach on Pro Tools.

  • @1972OGTony

    I would never use this method for basic NY compression I'ma stick to using two channels I see nothing faster with this method and would have more windows open ie the compressor, splitter tool and console vs console and compressor. Now if I wanted to get extreme I would use this method for multi-band compression.
