Themeinldrummer, we actually recorded this lesson series for a special DVD that we produced for Jojo's clinic tour throughout Europe, Canada and the US. After the clinic tour was over, we decided to put the video on TH-cam to let everyone benefit from the lessons. Usually we don't sit on any video for more than a few days!
I don't know who is more freaky creative, Jo Jo or Jonny Rabb. I saw Rabb at a clinic, and people's jaws were on the floor at his bizarre creativity. So much acoustic drumming that sounds cooler than electronics.
Another master of the techno beat and unusual creativity is Jonny Rabb. Saw him live at a clinic last year, and people's jaws were on the floor at the sounds and discoveries. Benny Greb said it best, that finding new techniques is basically a little kid screwing around on a drumset until he can replicate a unique sound in a beat pattern.
VF thanks for this vid of jojo mayer ive been using the "CLAPPING TEXTURE" and its working amazingly well never wouldve thought of that ive tripped out some some other drummers and musicians as well.
Oh yea. Similar to how a bodhran player would do a triplet or something. But it looks like Jojo gives it one tap and the stick goes on its own, a rebound like a Moeller kind of motion.
If you were to ask me what my favorite drummers are that inspired me to play? I would tell you, Jojo Mayer, Neil Peart, Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Joey Joridson, Travis Barker, Lars Ulrich, Zoro, Terry Bozzio, Mike P., Vinnie K., and John Bonham.
It looks like he is playing a gravity blast on the other side of the fence if you catch my drift. Using the BACK of the stick for the rebound, instead of the tip.
Meaning in certain songs or musical settings, he uses that technique a lot. But those certain songs or musical settings only happen sometimes. Just had to be a troll in the comments, didn't there?
his hihats always sound so awesome when he plays them, but i've tried them in person before, and man, they are the trashiest cymbals i've come across in my life so far. his left foot technique to splash the hats must be flawless, i'd love to see him give his spin on technique for his feet. did i forget to mention his coveted right foot?
I really don‘t know if there is any kind of contemporary jungle and bass band who would use an analog drummer as a part of their band concept. Mr. Mayer would you please come up with something really substantial and useful please. This crazy „Rumgedaddel“ is not very useful.
Jojo Mayer is like the guru of drums, he knows everything about every technique, style, time signature. it's mind blowing!
Your willingness to think further and dig deeper is inspiring and humbling.
Jojo, it always amazes' how you can make acoustic drums sound so creative. Thank you . The band Nerve is incredibly creative.
He's a genius.

This bass player is so cool
"I use that a lot sometimes..." It's just when I seldom do something always...
Well, technically, you could use it a lot in one beat that you sometimes play.
Kinda like always commenting, on a 5 year-old comment.
THE KINK OF TECHNIQUES
Dude open hi hats on the 'e' you are the master jojo. More cool info than cobus, mike, or Steven have ever given!
What pedal is the bass player using at the beginning?
Oh yea. Similar to how a bodhran player would do a triplet or something. But it looks like Jojo gives it one tap and the stick goes on its own, a rebound like a Moeller kind of motion.
what is the name of the song played at 6:00? :D love it!
His accent and voice sounds a little like Christopher Walkens.
Sometimes he uses it, but when he uses it he uses it a lot.
i wonder what is the name of intro song. anyone knows?
Unreal
What kind of hats are those?
What is the song in the end called?
1:43 what is he doing? hitting with the one end of the stick and then the other?
"Uploaded on Sep 28, 2012" - It's interesting to see how long Vic Firth sits on videos before they release them to the public. Why so long?

I think he means a lot in some songs
6:00 yessss !!!!!

Andrew J. Smith yeah but no one asked so why tf?
wtf is he doing at 2:00? some kind of 4 stroke phrase on the rim, but how? is he using the fulcrum for that as well, or is it just a one hand job?
It looks like he is playing a gravity blast on the other side of the fence if you catch my drift. Using the BACK of the stick for the rebound, instead of the tip.
is he doing 8th notes on the hat or 16th ? or something else?
Hey man, I think he was just amused by the phrase.
You don't have to call the guy a troll.
is this the jojo mayer signature snare?
John Davis, although Janek often fills in for him.
This guy is a fucking genius! D:
WOW!!!!
His name backwards is pretty trippy. OJOJ REYAM. I don't know why that's the first thing I thought of, lol.
I own that snare😊
Meaning in certain songs or musical settings, he uses that technique a lot. But those certain songs or musical settings only happen sometimes. Just had to be a troll in the comments, didn't there?
