Well. Historically speaking rats and mouses *were* humans worst enemy. They spread deceases like the flood. Bringing about pest and death everywhere. At least that is what we thought. Now it is explained more diversively, such as poverty, population, bad hygien, plus rats.
This video makes me happy. I capture a lot of wildies and end up taking them down to a creek for release. That looks far more pleasant than setting a billion tiny little humane traps that are like mouse-size boxes.
What a nifty trap. I wish more people cared enough to look for humane options or at least keep the deadly traps quick and painless. It's horrendous the kind of suffering we've deemed to be acceptable as long as the victim is considered a pest.
This is great! One thing I'd like to mention is a tank needs ventilation to avoid respitory distress from the ammonia from their urine. I'd suggest drilling holes in the wood!
You’re amazing! Poor things get slaughtered half the time because they just need to find somewhere to stay. It’s really good how you put a wheel as well.
I kept a deer mouse as a pet but it was a an orphaned baby who didnt even have her eyes open when I found her so I raised her on a syringe of goat milk from a baby and she was pretty much tame cause she knew me and saw me as her 'mommy' so she never bit me even as she got older. I also assumed since she was so young when i found her that she probably wouldnt have had time to really pick up any parasites since she was barely a week old when i found her. She was such a great little mouse I named her Peppy Pepito cause she was a peppy (lively active and high-spirited) little mouse. She liked to curl up in my hand when she was ready to go to sleep and let me give her cheekrubs til she passed out and then i would gently place her back in her nest under a half-log type thing i got from the reptile section of the petstore. i tried to make her enlosure as mouse-friendly as possible and used more natural things like rocks and wood half-logs and stuff like that since she was a wild mouse. she did LOVE running on her little wheel tho haha i would hear her up all night hearing her wheel spinning and spinning lol.
This trap is truly humane. most other so called humane traps need to be checked hourly, but bucket style traps are more humane, and this one is particularly well done.
Those native mice are definitely cuter than the introduced pet. Here in Australia we have a native water rat that they have collectively named the Rakali, in the hope it stops people thinking of them like European water rats, and helps to protect them. They are way cuter than European water rats.
I just used your affiliate link and bought a flip & slide. I hope they pay you well, you deserve it. I've been watching for years and enjoy your content. Thank you for making these videos!
Deer mice are so cute and so smart. I have 3 and they invented a game with the exercise wheel. One of them runs on the wheel and another hangs on the edge and goes around. They love this game. I've seen two of them hang on while the other powers the wheel. It's like watching an 3 siblings play together and their bond seems strong. When I clean the tank, I tell them "I gotta clean. Consider taking shelter" and they hide in their lavish coconut I've bedded with a soft towel. They are more than happy to stay out of my way when maintaining the tank. They have 3 completely different personalities. One is very scared and cautious. Another loves the running wheel and largely ignores me and my hand if I'm giving foor or water. The last one loves to jump and clime. I named them after cartoons bc I love cartoons. Speedy, Jerry and Tiny Tim. None of them have taken a nip at me, so that's good but I don't think they'd be dumb enough to bite the hand that feeds. My original plan was to release them in the spring bc it's super cold out these days but I'm not sure if they'd make it since I've been feeding and sheltering them for a while.
This is a great temp cage! But, as someone who has mice, there is not enough hiding spots for the mice and Kaytee tends to not have the best food for mice. I recommend getting Mazuri rat and mice pellets. Also, with a tank for a mouse cage, you should have a mesh or other breathable material for the lid. Again, this is a pretty good temp cage! But if you plan on keeping mice then this is not ideal.
Honestly, since it’s a temporary setup, he probably would have been better off just giving them some fresh food from the kitchen. Some fruit, vegetables, and grains. Then he didn’t even have to buy anything else.
@@SeraliaAerials I understand that this is a trap. I’m only giving advice on keeping mice, someone may consider keeping the mice in this and it’s not fit for that. I’m sorry that me possibly helping someone had upset you.
@@callmekit_312 I’m not upset. I just don’t see how anyone could look at this and think it’s a viable permanent home for any rodent. Even with fish tanks you need some level of ventilation, which is why a completely closed lid tank with fish in it will typically fail. This is not the place for advice on keeping pets. This is for pest control.
4:38 as well. Translates to a common insult to China’s leader. They call him Baozi, aka “Steamed Bun” as a joke. He came to a little restaurant called Qingfeng to eat baozi in 2013. So many people call him baozi as satire. I don’t get it but that’s the joke. ha
I had pet mice in college. Got them from the pet store for a dollar each, being sold as snake food. Unfortunately at a house party somebody caught a wild mouse in the house and put it in the tank with the pets. It had mites and soon the whole tank was full of them. The house mouse was removed but the pets didn't last much longer.

I love your content and I believe that you have very much earned and deserve to be able to make a living off of your amazing content. You're amazing my friend and don't let anyone make you think otherwise. Much love ❤️
it's funny to see wild mice making use of almost the exact same stuff I have in my hamster's cage haha I bet if you put a hamster wheel with a bell on it near where you think you have mice/rats, you'll get your confirmation pretty quick lol
I got 2 of those flip traps. It did catch a few mice, but after awhile it would just hang in the air and stop dropping down completely for the new mouse. It would just sit up in the air. I was able to send one back, but they wouldn't take the second one back.
I really think the snap trap is the only trap that’s “humane” (assuming it kills them immediately). I remember sticky traps were supposed to be more humane but then the mouse just slowly dies. Some even lose their legs or tails trying to get out. If you see one in a sticky trap, take it outside, poor oil on it until it manages to wiggle free
Sadly, I’ve seen snap traps not work ideally in numerous ways (I worked in a barn building and my boss insisted on using those instead of more humane options), they often do snap awkwardly and from what I’ve seen, a decent percentage of the mice likely suffered before death.
Very fun trap. I tried out the flipnslide trap you suggested and only caught one mouse in several months. With conventional wooden traps I'd catch several every day. So, I'm wondering if pocket mice have some aversion to them because they aren't near the ground.
Last week I caught three deer mice and one house mouse. I found out really quickly that deer mice and house mice don't get along when I released a house mouse into a bin with a deer mouse. I raise fancy mice and apparently my mouse-catching dogs and cats have decided I like my mice alive as they have been bringing them inside and releasing them instead of killing them like they used to do before I got interesting in raising fancy mice. I wish they would go back to killing them as it is hard to find a place to release the mice that isn't close to homes or businesses and I've already found that releasing them in the woods, in back of my house, is a waste of time as they are soon back inside looking for food.
2:05/2:07 if you go frame by here there's like some Chinese letters in the footage where a mouse falls down If you don't see it, look at the mouse's shadow, it's close to there Edit: Everytime a mouse falls down on the motion camera there's that text

@@BlazingShadowSword exactly. People don't realize that their dear dog or cat accidentally licking a wound on your hand could cause the same mortal danger of blood poisoning as rodents or any other mammal.
Well. Historically speaking rats and mouses *were* humans worst enemy. They spread deceases like the flood. Bringing about pest and death everywhere. At least that is what we thought.
Now it is explained more diversively, such as poverty, population, bad hygien, plus rats.
Honestly wouldn't mind seeing a bunch of these connected together to create a mouse network across the house
This video makes me happy. I capture a lot of wildies and end up taking them down to a creek for release. That looks far more pleasant than setting a billion tiny little humane traps that are like mouse-size boxes.
I am blown away by this. Creative, educational, and even humane!
I hate it when I'm trying to steal food only to fall into a top rated mansion
I love how the mouse just makes itself at home after getting trapped.
It is so interesting how even wild mice get a kick out of the running wheel. Thank you so much for this trap idea!
I’ve read that they have put mouse running wheels out in fields as an experiment, and that wild mice will use the wheels.
I would love to see this one again, wonderful video Shawn.
What a nifty trap. I wish more people cared enough to look for humane options or at least keep the deadly traps quick and painless. It's horrendous the kind of suffering we've deemed to be acceptable as long as the victim is considered a pest.
I loved how quickly they took to the wheel!
Great for if you have escaped pet rodents in your house like dwarf hamsters
This is great! One thing I'd like to mention is a tank needs ventilation to avoid respitory distress from the ammonia from their urine. I'd suggest drilling holes in the wood!
You’re amazing! Poor things get slaughtered half the time because they just need to find somewhere to stay. It’s really good how you put a wheel as well.
Your kindness is refreshing. Thank you for being who you are in this world!
Much fun ! I've had the Flip N Slide in my garage for a long time. Very effective.
I didnt know someone who care about rats so much. I heard about guys who saving lab mice and offering adoptions. Your idea is just simply brilliant.
I like to think that every time a new mouse falls into the cage the other mice are just like, "Ah, welcome newcomer. Make yourself at home".
Shawn filming this: "If this gets demonetized I'll eat my hat!"
5:10 the one peeking out of the ball is actually so adorable.

Mouse: * falls in the trap *
The other mouse in the coconut: *Bonjour*
I just used your affiliate link and bought a flip & slide. I hope they pay you well, you deserve it. I've been watching for years and enjoy your content. Thank you for making these videos!
5:12 is so cute when the mouse in the little coconut pops his head out when the other one falls in

This is great! Never really expected it to be so good.
Glad it was native deer mice
Shawn: ok mice go free!
Coconut mouse: are you out of your mind?? You think I'm gonna leave THIS?
@@Annie_Annie__ That’s true! It would have been way better than feeding them pellets that aren’t that great for them :(
It’s literally just a trap.
Imagine if you were abducted by aliens by falling through a trap door into a million dollar mansion…
Your video on the Flip and Slide was so entertaining. Watched it several times.
Lmao for a second I thought you said “hamster flavored blue berries”
All around, a great video. I hope it goes viral. I really appreciate you taking a moment to caution people also.
"Congratulations, you are now my pet"
Hah! That text at 5:28 with Winnie the Pooh so chinese thieves can't steal your video is genius
so thaaats what that random text is! that was driving me nuts! XD
4:38 as well. Translates to a common insult to China’s leader. They call him Baozi, aka “Steamed Bun” as a joke. He came to a little restaurant called Qingfeng to eat baozi in 2013. Back then, many people considered this as a signal of the loosening of Internet censorship. However, since he took office the Internet censorship becomes tighter and tighter. So many people call him baozi as satire. I don’t get it but that’s the joke. ha
This is like going on a nightly jog and suddenly falling through the floor into a penthouse
Next episode: Shawn will have peace talks with the mice colony creating a Human-Mouse treaty. 😁👍
I'm subscribed and I like every video before I watch any of it because you're extremely straight forward, friendly, as humane as possible, and most importantly...
Yes, it still needs some work, and make the lid not edible!
That's not a mouse trap, that's a mouse adoption tank. xD
One of the best videos of the channel. Thank you Shawn ❤️❤️❤️
The mice all went back to their village and told the other mice about the wonderful relaxing mouse spa and resort that they visited.
I hope whoever reads this is having a good day
And hopefully you're having a good day, too. ♥
Ive been Reading this and since i am from/in europe my day has almost ended but Thank you it was a Nice day
Hope you have a Nice day aswell
Today has been a warmer than usual day in Chicago. Yes thank you, I'm havering a pretty good day!
like farmer lmao
Thanks
Imagine a mice-loving viewer arriving and subscribing to this channel through this video only.
@@Feverm00n yes, sadly I caught one and it broke it's leg but it was still alive. Must have been in terrible pain. I felt awful.
Mouse: "I'm going to Disneyland!!"
Then be set free in a ghetto far from home then run and fight your way back!
I loved it, please do more videos with this trap!
I think I might actually buy this!
edit: after seeing it in action, *I'LL TAKE YOUR ENTIRE STOCK!!*
That was the coolest trap I have ever seen. Great work Shawn!
Very devious, convince the mice diplomatically to trap themselves. Well played...
Ironic that the guy with a huge channel and 2000 mousetraps never seems to have a shortage of mice in his barn.
he lives in a woodland area. you can't exactly put up an anti-rodent fence
(he can't use poison, sir to potential harm to his pets)
@@redwolfjo3_647 Exactly this! He lives in an area that has a lot of mice, the mice are just looking for food and shelter..
Alternative title: How to get a pet rat for free!
Oh I love this idea! I have the flip and slide trap (ordered from your link) but in 4 months, I haven't caught anything yet. Lol.
You wanna know about a mousetrap I accidently set?
Bowl next to open window, GENIUS!
the bowl fills with rain...
mouse falls into bowl and drowns
The mice working on their fitness :D so cute
I have a feeling that this will be one of Shawn's most popular videos!
I love the new humane trap. Have you tried adding a small camera inside the tank to get some close up footage of the mice playing?
it brings a tear to my eye how happy the mice are if i saw that i would 100% try and convince my parents to adopt them AH so cute
2:05/2:07 if you go frame by here there's like some Chinese letters in the footage where a mouse falls down
If you don't see it, look at the mouse's shadow, it's close to there
Edit: Everytime a mouse falls down on the motion camera there's that text
I noticed this too. Tried hand-writing the characters into Google Translate but didn't get any clear translation.
Scrolling further down the comments section, I see that there seems to be an explanation!
Man’s just went from wild to domestic the moment he dropped in 💀🤚
This trap is great! Great creativity, Shawn!
You say mouse trap I say little friend collector
That was hilarious and a lot of fun. Thanks Shawn.
As they should be treated. Poor guys are just doing their best to survive. Thank you! I'll be making this trap soon.
