      @@MrsKevOnStage I don't mean that in an idolizing way either. Lol. It's more like, "God, free me from the bondage of religion like THAT!" Following God should never feel burdensome, but for years it has been that way for me largely due to topics like this video pertains to as well as the stigma of mental health in the church. Your obedience to God has made a huge impact. ❤️

    I really enjoyed this episode. A lot of Christian culture shames women and young girls and it takes a life time to build your self esteem and awareness. I speak from experience and went on a journey to find myself and realize my worth. That modest narrative is traumatizing when it is done extremely. And honestly a lot of times it is only directed to women but no modesty training for men. At the end of the day we are all on the spectrum of Christianity and we should not shame others for their own journey. I have loved watching Melissa's journey bc it has helped me and encouraged me greatly.

    Has anyone ever read Song of Solomon? That whole book is very explicitly speaking about intimacy. And guess what? It made it into the Bible!!! God created ALL of our sexual organs. Guess what?!? Before the fall we were walking around booty but naked.. lol..... Sin is what brought shame. It says that we were naked and without shame. After the fall that’s when we wanted to start hiding and covering up. We should not be ashamed to openly discuss sexuality. The enemy and sin has taken sexuality and perverted it. Many of our first sexual experiences came in the form of some sort of perverted act. Maybe someone violated you sexually and as a result shame has attached itself to your sexuality. We as Christ followers have to take sexuality back!!! We need to have more conversations like this, ESPECIALLY in the church. If anyone has the authority to speak on sex and sexuality, it should be those who are walking in relationship with Christ. Keep doing your thing Melissa!!! I’m here for it!

    • @MsTJL1
      @MsTJL1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right! As Christians we want to take everything else back that the enemy stole (your hopes, your health, your finances, family, etc.). But sex!? We fail at that part. For the life of me I don't understand. I'm a single Christian woman & learning about my body through educational resources like these because though I'm not married I've learned at a young age about sex from the world and others that did it. But as I got older that I learned I have the responsibility to know and learn the body God gave me to keep it healthy, and have it be backed biblically & scientifically. And once I am married I will know about my ownself & have these conversations with my spouse to let them know (especially because men have no problem telling women how they feel or what they want). Healthy informative sex conversations start way too late these days.

    I feel like there is nothing wrong with a woman being Christian and talking about her body and what gives her pleasure. These conversations always reveal to me just how much people like to control women's bodies. Now when we specifically look at black women people do not like the fact these women have agency and are taking control over their bodies and expressing what they need within intimacy. Christians need to stop! a persons intimacy has nothing to do with their faith. Leave people alone!!

    Christian don’t only shame sexuality but we hide it too . It’s a very hidden topic that we believe shouldn’t be expose. This is some areas we need to address. The word of God states that there is no shame or condemnation for those who are in Christ . Yes we have a standard to uphold as believers but we do not need to hide what God made .. but we do have to make sure that we are honoring God with the way we present his creations .

    Thank you Melissa! I needed this. Im a tall 26 year old married woman and its tough fighting the church thoughts and being sexual shoot even picking clothing is hard. I have long legs so I have always avoided shorts and mid length dresses because of it. All the times the saints yelled at me and told my mom about my "short" skirts has subconsciously affected the way I dress. My husband had to tell me to wear what I want after I was struggling to find long shorts for a pool party and ended up sitting down the entire time because I had on shorts that were above the knee and felt awkward.

    @MrsKevOnStage thanks for doing this video! After watching this...
    1. Word on the Instagram comments:
    After 2020, I truly hope people can stop being so hype like “ if you aren’t for my views/don’t agree with me, you’re AGAINST me!!!” B/c that was the mood of the comments I read on both sides of the aisle and it legit almost felt as anxiety-striking as the 1st presidential debate. Seriously, is there not enough space for folks to make sure we understand other ppls actual (not presumed or stereotyped) point of view before blazing them into oblivion? Must everything be about “checking” folks & making sure so-and-so doesn’t “come” for us? Our last names aren’t Trump; hope we become more intentional about acting like it.
    2. The shirt was definitely an attention getter. Maybe something that could have helped the shirt come off as more educational would have been to have the stats Brit said at the bottom or on the back of the shirt. Then there’d be info to go w/ the initial attention getter that would help spread real awareness. So....
    3. Maybe the majority of this situation isn’t half as much about ignorance & grouping most Christians as being foolish and disadvantaged in their thinking as it is a breakdown/lapse in communication. As w/ SOME cases of cultural appropriation issues: sometimes it might not come off so bad if the prsn’s intention was self-evident.
    4. Thank you Brit for providing such hearty sex education. It is so important to understand these awesome art pieces (bodies) God made! 💕

Growing up I felt a shame about sex all because what I was taught growing up in Pentecostal church. Even when I was married I was afraid to speak up of what I needed to reach the stars🤣.
    Just this year I was able to be me and tell what I like. It’s the CLIT for me. I felt so free and then to have man that didn’t have a problem with me being so vocal but actually enjoy the GPS was a cherry on top.

    Kev, the science of Apologetics is based upon the scripture 1 Peter 3:15, "...always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect". One of the leading apologists was the late great, Ravi Zacharias. Someone that I currently follow is Frank Turek and Michael Ramsden.

    Great conversation. The church doesn’t like talking about sex, in the right context. I’ve had to find books to read that help me understand sex and singleness.

    I recommend reading/listening to the book: Come as you are by Emily. It helps with accepting your sexuality, your sexual body parts, and your sexual responses as a woman. On a different note: it's interesting that knowing the terms of our sexual body parts reducing sexual abuse is empowering to learn about. Education = power. Empower yourself and your children with this knowledge.
