for people who does not know much about hyliion ERX truck, they have 2 versions, one is 25-mile pure BEV and the other one is 75-mile pure BEV version(the truck can run purely on its battery for 75 miles), in additional to 1000 miles.
I think your calculations are correct. It's unlikely that the Hyliion engineer misspoke because he did repeat the number. So I believe that your conjecture is correct. If so, that means the 25-mile battery is about 5k lb less than the 75-mile version. Assuming the same density, the 75-mile battery weighs about 7.5k lb. Tesla semi's battery weight is unknown but many have estimated around 10k +-2k lb but the range is a lot longer. This means that Hyliion is probably using the LTO battery, which has a much lower energy density than Li-ion batteries.
hyliion is using LTO battery for their truck, but Thomas healy said in one of the interviews that for 75 miles version, they have to use some of lithium ion battery to boost the range. the thing i am not sure about is is it purely lithium ion battery or mixed of lithium ion battery and LTO battery(i would assume it is a mixed)... but you are right, LTO are lower density than li-ion thus hyliion battery are lighter
