      Luigi already finished his adventure by the time you fight the final boss iirc, you can talk to him after chapter 7 at the Rogueport Inn.

    I played this game around 2009, but I never had a GameCube SD so I never got farther than chapter 1, but I remember still having a blast, even though then I wasn’t that good at it. Now it’s 2019 and this week I got the chance to play it again, and when I finished and saw the ending scenes. It just brings a warm feeling and I feel like a connection to these characters and I get a nostalgic feel. This game had a special place in my heart..

    And now, the elephant left in the room after clearing out said room:
    *How I think Paper Mario: Luigi and the Marvelous Compass would be a game!*
    Minor cosmetic changes: Instead of FP, you use SP (Sweet Points) going with the sweets theme of the Waffle Kingdom, and CP (Compass Points) to perform special moves.
    Chapters:
    Chapter 1: A New Adventure Awaits (Waffle Kingdom)
    A parallel to Rogueport, which involves searching the sewers and aboveground for the next compass piece's whereabouts. Compass piece is Base, which enables Sugar Rush (Sweet Treat DX).
    Chapter 2: Secrets in the Searing Sands (Rumblebump Volcano)
    Hey, for once, a fire level is FIRST! It's preceded by a bit of desert, though. Involves pushing blocks onto volcanic vents to launch them and/or Luigi. The desert part also involves slotting the blocks into certain positions to hold down switches. The volcanic part revolves around redirecting the lava flows in the various areas to make paths forward. Luigi and co. have to collect various pieces of a strange mechanism they think will unlock the way forwards, but it actually just summons Rumblepoca. Compass piece is Needle, which enables Pinpoint, a variant of Earth Tremor that flips certain grounded enemies.
    Chapter 3: Plumpbelly Village
    Really nothing to do here, as the doors of all the houses are locked (for fear of Hizza.) Any time Luigi attacks, he takes one damage (the chiffon.) Compass piece is Glass, which enables Tune Out (Match the played rhythm to boost defense and Electrify, up to five times for 3 turns.)
    Chapter 4: A Race To Remember (Circuit Break Island)
    Hope you're good at Mario Kart! That's what it is, but the races work rather like the Glitz Pit, and the items require action commands. Like with the Glitz Pit, Luigi and co. discover corruption within the track, but instead of someone using the trophy for their insidious scheme, Kruschetti, a parallel to Rawk Hawk, has become corrupted by the compass piece's allure, and thus rules the ring with an iron fist for the purpose of keeping it, imposing frivolous rules on lower-ranked racers to keep them from ever having a chance at taking his trophy away. Compass piece is Pin, which enables Pin Down (Clock Out Lite.)
    Chapter 5: The Show Must Go On (Jazzafrazz Town)
    The first half involves using action commands to control all the actors, and the second half is an Excess Express like mystery where Hayzee was fed poisoned cake like Rawk Hawk tried to do to Mario! Compass piece is Rim, which enables Rollup (Showstopper Lite.)
    Chapter 6: Grimble Forest/Rapturous Ruins
    It's the Tower of Riddles, but at three or four times the size (and puzzles.) Compass piece is Hook, which enables Flashbang (Think PK Flash, but with action commands, damage, and no insta kill.) In the void end part, Cranberry reveals himself to be an Automide, a series of ancient, humanoid war automata built by the Luffs as enforcers of their regime using the Marvelous Compass. He hints of one remaining other like him before vanishing after relinquishing the piece.
    Chapter 7: Hatesong Tower Base
    Palace of Shadow Lite. After rescuing Princess Eclair, the Chestnut King follows you throughout until you get to the top. Also it's revealed that Princess Eclair is secretly another Automide, and wasn't kidnapped, but rather fled. Minister Crepe discovered her true nature and the power of possessing a war android that could level cities went to his head, thinking he could use it to conquer the world in the name of reviving the Luff empire. Eclair, in contrast to what she was built for, despised fighting, and thus sought out the Chestnut King's help to avoid being used as a weapon again. Upon learning of this, Crepe cursed the Chestnut King to turn into a mindless monster upon the entrance of intruders, then spun it as the princess being kidnapped to trick unaware adventurers into pinning down her location. Compass piece is Chain, which enables Foresight, a variant of Power Lift that turns Luigi and co. Dodgy instead of boosting their Defense. It also lets Luigi automatically Superguard any attacks that do hit him.
    Chapter 8: Hatesong Tower Apex
    Imagine those Mimi rooms from SPM, but Mimi is replaced with the Ultimate Chimera. This is what the Chestnut King does, until you fight him at the top, where he's too tired out to instant kill you. After reassembling the Compass and freeing the Chestnut King from his curse, now known as Lord Chessna, you fight Crepe, as per the book. At first, you can't do anything to him, but since the Compass pieces are repelled by evil, they come flying out of his body after Chessna lands a decisive blow, leading to him fighting alongside Luigi and his partner after they absorb their power.
    Partners:
    Gelatya:
    The ice-cream Spania found in the coding. Basically Goombella 2.0, down to being connected to the university (studying to be a professor there.) Attacks with ice tornadoes, which follow the same action commands as Earth Tremor, but smaller.
    Chilly Wind: A ranged attack that has a small chance to Freeze at Ultra Rank.
    Spy: Functions almost identically to Tattle. However, the first time it's used on an enemy in battle, it reveals their weak spots, allowing Luigi to deal increased damage to them that turn, in addition to revealing their health and marking them as seen.
    Sprinkle Mine: Scatters spikes that deal a bit of damage to any enemy who makes contact. Doesn't protect from attacks, though.
    North Wind: A tornado that can make foes Dizzy.
    Blooey:
    A gangster Blooper. Each time he gets burnt more (after the Rumblepoca and Chestnut King fights) he gains a permanent D-Down, P-Up effect.
    Blooper Bomb: A headbutt that knocks enemies into each other, similar to Gulp, but without the piercing effect.
    Ink Shot: Deals a bit of damage and can make enemies Dizzy.
    Throw: A defense piercing attack executed similarly to Parakarry's Shell Shot. Like the Slingsniper, aiming for certain parts on large enemies will deal extra damage. Needed to defeat Rumblepoca.
    Blooper Babies: Summons a Blooper Baby, each of which acts like a Grodus-Cross, minus the barrier
    Takes more damage from fire, but raises attack each time.
    In the overworld, he can be used as a projectile to hit far off switches.
    Jerry:
    He's just Bobbery 2.0 (more damage.)
    Torque:
    1 defense and high HP, but low damage moves.
    Wrench Whack: Functionally the same as the Super Hammer.
    Electro Gadget: Executed like Fiery Jinx, but up to 5 times, which inflicts a special variant of Electrified on the party. Each button sequence increases damage upon contact by 1 and duration by 2.
    Withdraw: Draws into his shell and shields Luigi.
    Wrench Whammer: Gulp DX, executed like the Super Hammer.
    In the overworld, he can be used to turn certain mechanisms with his wrench, and will give them another turn when Luigi whistles, allowing him to move things repeatedly like Koops' hold mechanic.
    Hayzee:
    His attacks have a chance to miss, fitting with him being really weird.
    Brown Note: Match the rhythm to attack everyone.
    Lovely Tune: Puts all enemies to sleep, but it has a chance to put audience members or even Luigi to sleep as well.
    Flower Power: Raises Luigi's attack power by up to 3.
    Minty Fresh: Releases a sweet smelling pollen, which cures everyone's statuses and heals a bit of HP.
    In the overworld, his pollen can be used to reveal hidden items like Ms. Mowz, such as invisible blocks or Flip Panels.
    Screamy:
    A variant of Vivian that uses water spells.
    Chessna:
    The beast formerly known as the Chestnut King, who was actually the prince of the Waffle Kingdom under a curse. He specializes in protecting party members and healing himself as he attacks, joining you in the postgame after beating Ultima Crepe.
    Shield Charge: Rushes forwards using a shield, which flips over shelled enemies.
    Life Drain: Attacks and heals for 5 HP.
    Royal Guard: Defends Luigi, in return taking more damage if oncoming attacks aren't Superguarded.
    Giga Drain: Attacks and heals for the same amount of damage dealt.
    Eclair:
    A 1000-year old robotic maiden known as an Automide, who specializes in hitting multiple enemies at once. In the postgame, Luigi can talk to her at her castle to recruit her into his party.
    Arm Cannon: Shoots up to five shots using an energy cannon embedded into her arm. The shots are fired using a faster version of Blooey's Throw reticle.
    Super Cannon: Fires wildly into the air, which causes ten shots to rain down. Each target will get hit at least once.
    Rewind: Boosts Attack and gains an extra turn next turn by turning the giant wind-up key embedded into her back.
    Hyper Buster: An enormous laser beam that hits all enemies at once.
    Bosses:
    Rumblepoca
    A boss with an unpierceable defense, similar to the Iron Clefts (at a point where most attacks will deal 1 damage, he's functionally invincible), but the idea is to hit him with Blooey's Throw, after which he keels over and lets you wail on his weak spot.
    Hizza
    It's Hooktail 2.0. You can take off the dress on the journey to him, but it makes the fight much harder, like the Attack FX R, as Hizza lowers his defense and attack power and his second head has negative defense if you have it on. Superguarding his second head will deal tons of damage to the main boss.
    Dramangosteen
    A Dayzee resembling a mangosteen' who's a rival director that's jealous of Hayzee winning for two years in a row. He would also use various foley on the battlefield to his advantage, buffing himself, debuffing you, and even periodically taking out your audience if necessary. At the end, right before dying, he spawns a Bowser Statue event as a last-ditch attack.
    Chestnut King
    A monstrous beast, who acts much like Grodus, freezing you and sending off shockwaves. He also occasionally covers the stage in a poison fog, which deals one damage per turn and makes him Dodgy.
    Crepe: It's Shadow Queen Lite.
    Anyway, thanks for listening to my little ramble..

    Something that I am extremely mad about this game is the fact that every girl in this game seems attracted to him and wants him, yet Princess Peach still doesn't give him "cake"
    It seems that those curse-chest things cursed him to be eternally friendzoned as well

    • @Khotgor
      @Khotgor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The only thing friendzoning mario is mario himself; he was given a harem in the game, and he could have chosen any one of them other than peach.

      @@Hoshi_no_Ren To be fair, Princess Peach is a 'human' in charge of an entire kingdom that is full of mushrooms. Not to mention there is a crown that can turn toadettes into pseudo-peaches; there's no telling what's under that dress...
      The Shadow Siren seems way better than Peach all things considered.

    To be honest... I kinda like Power of Friendship scenes if they're done well. Especially when they highlight all the people you've met and helped over your journey, like positive Karma. Works well here I think, and also in Okami too.

    • @TheWillikids
      @TheWillikids ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, probably not like an boost, but something more like this:
      You bonded with so many characters, also relating to them as well, because even if they're just random civilians, you still recognize them as characters who carried their stories too, like wanted to improve themselves, seek out interesting mysteries, share some laughter you didn't have for a while, or shared advices for living an amazing life.
      ... But now this is no typical saving the day or getting the grand treasure. This is the final trial of your journey, and losing is something you CANNOT accept. Those people are what stands behind you from the monster who's intentions will take all of them away. If you don't do this, what'll happen to them? No, you don't want to know, and in fact, you won't let it happen that easy, since you're the one who's standing here to take matters in your own hands.
      So, what are you gonna do? Just keep going, despite being terrified by the sight of an horrific demon. Fight the darkness that dares to enshroud the world in despair... They cheer you on, hoping that you could make it... So there's just one thing to know:
      Never quit on them.
      That was quite a bit dramatic, but I tried to match that exact sort of feeling.

    This is one of the many final bosses that I enjoy for a very specific reason.
    See, there's this one thing I LOVE doing in certain games, especially Mario RPGs. And that is to make the final boss truly stand out by forcing myself to use every ability I can.
    In this game, that would mean using each Special Attack and each partner at least once. Mind you, I don't go as far as to use every badge attack and partner move I have. But you get my point. And as a bonus, I like finishing off the Shadow Queen with Vivian by my side and with one final Supernova.
    Feels so much more satisfying that way.

    • @gravity8120
      @gravity8120 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Each partner has their own special use in this battle I find, some sort of niche that makes them stand out and help in a way.
      Goombella and Yoshi for damage, Koops and Vivian to take out hands, Flurrie and Bobbery to tank and Ms. Mowz to...heal Mario? Pierce Defence?

    • @Parakarry077
      @Parakarry077 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ya I had to use all my partners for this fight Mz mouze not included because I did not know how to get her. But Koops and Viv were the most useful they destroyed all her hands. Yoshi aka Gobster was for attacking the queen. Goombella was there for the tattle lol. Flurrie and Bobery where the big tanks so since Vivan was in perail she did ten damage. So I switched Vivian to Flurrie and Boberry. Then I had Koops for back up so if Vivian dies he’ll defeat her. Anyways Killing The shadow queen felt so satisfying. And using all the partners was even more statsfing

    I get that this game is meant to be for children of all ages, but let's be honest. Grodus should have died. Kind of takes away from the whole final battle in my opinion. It would've been a stronger scene ahowing that the game's main antagonist was wiped from existence in a split second by this greater power. Sets up the final boss better.

    Using Fiery Jinx to kill the hands...as opposed to...Koops's Power Shell?
    Also sometimes you can't help it when the Shadow Queen attacks with her hands; if she changes from her giant hands to the dead hands or vice versa, they'll get a turn in whether they were destroyed or not.
    I guess the Shadow Sirens stuffed Frankly into a closet somewhere in the Palace of Shadow...which doesn't make much sense to me, since despite being a palace, the whole place seems incredibly devoid of furniture.

    I kind of also have a theory for how the four heroes defeated SQ, from watching this video...
    Toad heals the party with mushrooms, team medic.
    Koopa uses power shell or something to take down the hands, offensive support.
    Goomba uses multibonk on SQ, main offensive attacker.
    Boo to hide everyone in case of supercharged attack, defensive support.
    Only thing I can't think about is how they restored their FP :v

    In all honesty, that's one of the flawed things about bosses in Paper Mario (and Mario in general), common killing strategies. Power Bounce practically works on everything, and even if you limited yourself not to use it, it would just be a matter of using yet another common strategy (e.g. Spin/Spring Jumps) to finish off the boss. That's just one thing I noticed throughout all of your boss fights for this playthrough, and I suppose you know how boring it can get, which is why I (and many other viewers, as well) appreciate you trying out different stuff.
    If I had to sum the battle mechanics of TTYD up, it would be that "mechanics are interesting but lose their appeal after a while, due to the usage of common boss killing strategies such as Power Bounce". Just some thoughts about it.

    Along with that ridiculous Grodus reveal, what kind of annoyed me about the epilogue was Beldam suddenly becoming good people just because the Shadow Queen was destroyed when resurrecting the Shadow Queen was Beldam's master plan from the very beginning. Unless they were implying she was being influenced or mind controlled in some fashion, in which case they should have done a better job explaining it. Otherwise it just comes across as bizarre at best and mind-fumblingly dumb at worst.

    • @commonsense2191
      @commonsense2191 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Salociin Agreed. they didn't need to show or mention beldam at all, or grodus for that matter.

    • @gravity8120
      @gravity8120 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think they did it because they wanted to show a happy ending for Vivian.
      And otherwise, Beldam's sole goal was to revive the Shadow Queen, and then she got destroyed for good. Beldam has nothing left to live for; she was mostly being evil out of loyalty.

    • @Loner098
      @Loner098 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not only that, but it feels like a character regression on Vivian's strong character arc in Chapter 4, where she said that she was not going back to her family. And you gotta remember: Beldam had verbally abused Vivian, gaslit her, AND tried summoning a demon to take over the world. Plus, she gets off with no consequences for her actions.
      So to have Vivian go back with her abusive family kinda just sets off an uncomfortably dangerous message for children, especially victims of abuse, and this hasn't even been Nintendo's first time giving such a dangerous message like this, as they do the same with Lillie, Gladion, and their abusive mother Lusamine in Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

    In actuality, Peach has been kidnapped by the Secret Society of X-Nauts, a group of Moon-dwellers led by Sir Grodus, which is also searching for the Crystal Stars. While held captive, Peach uses e-mail via the main base's computer, TEC, to inform Mario about the quest and consequently help him to attain all seven Crystal Stars and locate the treasure. However, the "treasure" is actually the Shadow Queen, a demon responsible in a bid to recover her full power. However, the Shadow Queen betrays and kills Grodus. This happens, but the arcane power of the Crystal Stars is then used to separate Peach from her possessor briefly to give Mario and friends the strength needed to fight the Shadow Queen. Mario defeats the Shadow Queen and frees Peach, returning home with her.

    So let me get this straight. In your LP of Super Paper Mario, during the final boss, you complained that said boss was underwhelming because the ratio of the boss's HP to your typical attack power was so low compared to that for the Shadow Queen. In fact, if I remember correctly, you said SPM's final boss BHP:TAP ratio was about 10:1, whereas in this game it's 25:1.
    But when you fight the Shadow Queen in this playthrough, you deliberately use a ridiculous badge combo to put your attack power in the double digits, changing the BHP:TAP ratio to roughly 12:1.
    Do you like your final bosses easily trounceable or not?

    • @Skawo
      @Skawo  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The difference here is that getting all of those badges and levels required effort on my part while SPM's setup just happens naturally. You would not have this setup on your first playthrough of TTYD, and you very much would in SPM.

  • @r8_the_moo

    32:48 the first ever time I saw Luigi jump in this game. And of course with the PM64 sound. But anyway, if I recall correctly ,PM64 had pretty much the same scene right at the end of the game in which you see the situation of each partner you've gotten in the game so far. I didn't like that scene at the time since it was a ripoff ,right? But when we got to that bland abomination that came out in 2011 ,I missed these scenes badly since they actually gave these characters even more of a...character ,personality and stuff. Color Splash tried to make a scene that should probably sadden the player. That made me hope for the future of this game and maybe consider a purchase this time around.I just want them to look at this game and take notes why people loved this game even though, as we could see that playthrough , had a lot of flaws. I mean, they've got at least 5 years ffs
