Colt did a video about how he no longer recommends them because of that. I bought mine and waited 4-5 months, many people are waiting longer. Go through sweetwater if you get one, you may get it quicker. I think Sweetwater puts pressure on them. They’re very nice desks but unless you’re willing to wait a very long time I’d get something else.

Correct! That’s the order! It’s mostly because I want all of my saturation tools to be fed a finished sound that is already shaped with EQ and compression how I like it

i use on my mixbus: Q3 SPL Big > Wes Audio Dioney > Gainlab Audio After this, just a normal and simple Mastering Chain, like, Saturn, Inflator, Clipper and Limiter

My plugins were: Softube Curve Bender Elysia Alpha Compressor in feed forward mode True Iron (I assume that this would be a great substitution of your pres) Black Box HG-2 bx_digital V3 - only for filtering the lows and the super highs and for the width knob Soothe 2 just for the low end since i used the low band on the curve bender for the low mids (300 hz) For reference i tried it on a song i worked on which is already released and i manged to beat my own (old) mix

i stuck the SPL BiG plugin on my mixbus on a song im working on, this morning, and for 2 hours i sat around marveling at how open it made the song sound. I ended up taking ozone imager completely out of the session. The hardware must sound insane bc the plugin blew me away.
The SSL Bus 500 MK III (now chinese made, just like the Bus+) now is in the price range of those clones like the Serpent and it's what should be recommended as it's the realest SSL Bus Comp ever for that kind of buck! It's a bit like a steal knowing how freakin' expensive the previous version was (over here in the EU the UK made SSL Bus 500 MK2 last sold for 2400€!). ITB the Softube Bus Processor is a great choice, I have the UAD also but use the Softube.
hey colt great video, can you explain why you use them in that order? i am currently running first my api style pres and then going to my Warm Audio SSL style compressor, should i be doing it the other way?
Two questions. Do you create an auxiliary track for your mix bus and strap it across every Atmos track? And do you take everything off when you send stuff off to be mastered? As a lot of mastering engineers don’t want anything on the track
The Atmos part of your question is a deeper conversation that I probably need to make a dedicated video on. As far as mastering goes, I master everything I mix myself. But if your Mastering Engineer is telling you to take off all mix bus processing, you need a new Mastering Engineer . The only thing you should do is remove the limiter/clipper, and make sure nothing is clipping. The Mastering Engineer should be happy to work with that.

Is there enough different hardware available to have a completely recallable session. Should all companies be going down this route if they want to stay on top. I’m not sure I have a video going over that specific detail, but there is a link to my preamp video in the description of this video. Generally speaking, I want my saturation after EQ, and after compression. I want to shape the frequency of the bus, and then compress that shaped frequency, and then then saturate that shaped and compressed frequency spectrum. Hope that makes sense.

Was curious at the point you suggested the Blackbox Saturation plugin. I checked it out and thought it was interesting, but also very similar to Saturn 2 from Fabfilter. Was curious if there was a major difference between the two in your opinion and why you would choose Blackbox over Saturn 2

This is a DangerFox desk. It’s a fantastic desk, but unfortunately, they have been extremely unreliable with shipping dates, and I know a couple people that never got their desks, so no, unfortunately, I do not recommend. I wish that was not the case.
I put the SPL on New and older Mixes I’ve done and was Shocked what it does. I can’t see spending the $$$ on The Outboard Gear ( Hobbyist ) but have heard Shoot-Outs between the two. Real close. ☺️

The vitalizing doesn’t get used on every mix, but when it is on a mix, it is towards the end of the chain. I have found myself using it a whole bunch in mastering though!

So after ALL THAT… What are you doing to master then? In this case is mastering just sending to someone to make Dolby ATMOS mixing? What more do you need other than a limiter and super technical stuff like dithering?

I was having some latency issues with the magic mouse, so I switched to this logitech, but it didn’t solve my issues either. So I’m unsure of which I will continue using.
I know you are busy, but I think it's time for you to take a musical adventure of your own again! Perhaps on song? You know you want to! Write, perform, track, mix and master... that's an itch you can't scratch until you scratch it.
UAD plugins can only be used with a dongle (UAD interface or ilok) or constant internet connection via an ilok online account. this is very annoying for portable music production. if you go the spark subscription you won't be able to recover your mixes when you stop paying the subscription unless you're bouncing all your tracks with plugin processing. this stuff may not sound too bad but will bite you on the ass at some stage.
That sounds very similar to the SSL Fusion Imager section and/or plugin. Sometimes I like it but other times I'm like geez raise the sides but chill on the additional high end
@ exactly they should revise the knob course also cus after mark 2, it’s unusable on mixbus . Put a slower slope, less side highs and a more fine tuned post eq and I’ll buy it again 😹
Kiive N-Fuse is crazy good replacement for Fusion / MBT. Best of both.

How do you have the "bass" selector on your SPL BIG turned off? That "Bass" feature is so awesome you literally can't leave it off Colt!
I used to live with it on until I got the MBT! And then I just like the combo of the high pass, low, EQ, and blue silk more.

Have you ever thought about using the inserts on the fusion to put the bus plus into?

UAD plugins can only be used with a dongle (UAD interface or ilok) or constant internet connection via an ilok online account. this is very annoying for portable music production. if you go the spark subscription you won't be able to recover your mixes when you stop paying the subscription unless you're bouncing all your tracks with plugin processing. this stuff may not sound too bad but will bite you on the ass at some stage.
As far as Spark goes, the same could be said for every plug-in subscription. But you’re not wrong, thanks for the comment!
You don't need Spark subscription to get the native UAD plugins anymore, you can just buy them individually

That sounds very similar to the SSL Fusion Imager section and/or plugin. Sometimes I like it but other times I'm like geez raise the sides but chill on the additional high end
@ exactly they should revise the knob course also cus after mark 2, it’s unusable on mixbus . Put a slower slope, less side highs and a more fine tuned post eq and I’ll buy it again 😹
