That wand hovering was a part of the Harry potter chess collectors set. You didn't need a big cord (it had batteries). That wand hovering also cost I think $12 with the weekly magazine too. So the idea of the wand hovering isn't even a new idea for Harry potter merch, the wand from the chess set also hovered wayyy better and higher than demonstrated here

I feel like I can walk into a Spirit Halloween pop up store and see this on a shelf for 75% off because nobody wanted to pay the full $25. It's exactly like the kind of stuff they sell, except even they would have probably added some lights and/or sounds to the plastic book base. lol
What's sad is that this could've been a really damn cool collector's item. The book specifically could've been great as like an artbook or a grimoire for all of the monsters inside of Hogwarts...but no...lets let a wand float less than inch in the air. $300 indeed

Imagine if it was a USB peripheral though where it was a maruader's map and the wand represented you and the direction you were facing in game, and the book page would update digitally with where you are using a curved LED screen over the book pages... now that would have been killer.

Yeah, compare this to hollow knights collectors edition, you get a comic, a charm, a map, a special case, and posters. It's 80 bucks.
Yeah up until that point I was thinking this is pretty rough, but I've seen worse in the past and then he showed what the MSRP was and my jaw actually involuntarily dropped which doesn't happen often. That's insane and I just feel bad for the people who are huge fans that pre-ordered it, waited in anticipation to see what cool stuff it would come with, and got this

An actual spellbook with faux leather binding, a replica of the default wand from the game, and a Hogwarts crest that you can hang from the wall would have been perfect for this. An owl statue would also be acceptable. If that was the kind of stuff available, I would have actually bought this version of the game and played it, despite having marginal interest in the game itself.
Even the guy demonstrating it looks embarrassed when he turns it on. What a joke.
Before the book, he even looked uncomfortable with the wand. He is, in general, not wanting to be there.
Chandler Wood is a really good community manager, and you can see his passion in the Common Rooms tour that they did on Back To Hogwarts event.
The fact that he was so embarrassed of the Collector's Edition really does say something.

I miss collector’s editions that came with a steelbook, and art book and maybe small collectibles. Often these were only $10 - $20 over the standard game. Every collector’s edition now has to come with really bulky status / items - I don’t have room for that stuff and they are often several hundred dollars now.
Bioshock 2 collectors edition imo is perfect. Game, soundtrack cd, soundtrack for the first game vinyl, 2 posters and a really awesome art of book. When new it was £70. Like 25 30 quid more then the basic game. Well worth it. I managed to get it for £16 in a sale. Brand new.

For example i managed to grab Fire Emblem 3 Houses collectors edition for 80-90$ (I'm from europe, don't know how much regional prices differ from US $ price honestly, I checked just now on some websites and its much more but I guess its people reselling it?) and it contained a steel book, artbook, set of nice quality pins and pendrive with ost (US version got a CD and calendar iirc instead of pendrive). It came out in 2019, so it's fairly recent. There is still hope for modern games, just as I said, they are rare nowadays....
So like story of seasons / rune factory etc.

I remember of a time when “collectors editions” gave you a bang for your buck with all types of accessories even figures including the game and some DLC packs… times have changed for the worst..
I mean they clearly still do from all the examples. I'm not hopeful for the future though. Especially for big IPs like this where fans and scalpers will buy it anyway.
I preordered the Resident Evil 4 Remake collector's edition right when it launched and it's both cheaper and way better than this one lol

Most JRPGs still got pretty solid collector's editions but it's sad that the trend seems to be dying out with other games.

We're getting to the point where the younger generations don't actually know what a proper collector's edition should be like. Its happening for a lot of things nowadays and I'm finally starting to understand how adults felt when I was a kid lol

It's too plastic, ugly, and cheap looking. It makes me think of those plastic toys that toddlers play outside with in the sandbox that cost $10 a piece.
As a benchmark a collector's should contain a Artbook and a Soundtrack CD. Otherwise the statue needs to be freaking amazing.
A map too, a good one made in a style fitting the game, even if it's just basic paper, it costs next to nothing and is just cool
If there's one thing I learned about Harry Potter fans from going to Universal Studios, it's that they'll pay any amount of money for Harry Potter stuff.
They had the cheapest quality robes in those Universal shops for upwards of $150. They were like something youd find at party city. They know that there are many fans like that so I'm not surprised that the game is similar.

I also live in Orlando and have those robes. The difference in quality of fabric/amount of material is night and day. So I’m not sure what you’re on about. Sure, they aren’t movie replicas but they are certainly better than any 3rd party retail garbage.

I miss working designs games that were like “Yeah it’s 90’s but you’ll get gilded pages in your hardcover manual, art cards, lenticulars, model amulets, fold out cloth maps, and other awesome I’m sure I’m forgetting.
The Lunar Collector's Editions were great, especially for the time.
Figures, pins, shirts, etc, etc.

They should have scrapped the floating wand and made the actual book, then gave like a statue of one of the beasts and maybe a wand that is comparable to one of the expensive ones at the park and then they could do like the pins and stickers. Years ago a newspaper in Australia did a Harry Potter themed promotion. I think it was around when the last movie released. Basically every week you bought the paper you'd get some collectable cards. They were pretty cool but the big thing everyone was after were these plastic wands. They gave out three different wands during certain weeks so I'd imagine most people probably waited until those weeks then bought the paper.
Despite clearly being made from a cheap sort of plastic the quality on them is impressive. They're really detailed and actually look better than some of the official merch sold today for double the price.
The wand in this collector's edition looks horrible in comparison. I can't tell if it's made out of better materials but it certainly lacks the detail of even these cheaply made promotional ones. For the price, not even mentioning the really dumb stand along with it you should expect something higher quality than this.

A cute potion in theme bottles (you can really store stuff in...I dont know Tea, coffee, paper clips...a cute thing to help your loose bits on your desk clean)
A real mock up book, that is really readable, great for larps and cosplay, and real hogwarts school robe of your choice base off the new game's, that as your animal logo, yet it would be special code, so you pick which one you want, along with your sizing...but it does come with paper booklet showing you it all in detail..
That is one I would pay $300 for

For comparison, a floating Harry Potter branded Broomstick Pen costs $30 to $50, depending on the model. The plastic is the expensive part of this collector edition, it seems.

If this book were rechargeable and the wand levitated higher it might look cool. This reminds me of a Monster High doll who would levitate decently enough in her chamber ... which was not $300.
Here’s something they could have done to make the book think kinda visually better;
Strengthen the magnet so the wand floats a tad higher, naturally, then power it with a ribbon cable in the center and have the magnet slowly move around on a fixed track (like in the shape of a circle or an infinity) so it looks like the wand it trying to cast a spell on the book

They could have gone with a statue of any of the many magical creatures ( ie. Hedwig, Basilisk, Buckbeak, Thestral ) instead of book that needs to be plugged in in order to make the wand float.

It would objectively have been better if they just added some LED trails under the plastic in the book and rigged up a decent microprocessor to move dots around the map.

The person who got paid to make this collectors edition got paid to do one thing: come up with something that a few thousand die hard fans would be willing to buy, that also yields the highest profit margins per sale.
It sold out so whoever came up with it earned their holiday bonus.
Imagine E-Ink displays as the two book pages. That way the text and lines could actually move. Everyone owning a E-Reader knows what i mean.
Would be cool, but could just as easily make a companion app like with Red Dead 2 which tracks progress
When I saw them pull out the book, I thought that's what it was for. It would be very Muaraders map like, and a cool display piece to put on a book stand on a shelf.

I'm most surprised that there wasn't even a statue figurine or anything like that included. They could've chosen any creature from the lore and it probably would be worth like 120 maybe even 150 but that price is 'riddikulus!'
I think the floating wand is a cool idea actually, you'd just have to find a way to hide the chord. And yeah the price is way too high for what you get. Collector's/special/ultimate editions are just getting ridiculously expensive for the value of what they include nowadays.

I bought a Collector's Edition of some random game at a second-hand shop recently. $1, and it came with an entire novel set in the game world. I'll enjoy those 70 pages of an actual book way more than this cumbersome curiousity.

I like the idea of the book with the floating wand. It just needed to be higher quality, having the wand floating a little higher, centralize the want in the book, have a way to route the cabe so it is invisible or even replace it with something that looks like part of the book or the universe and also include more stuff like people here said like an art book
There should have been a hogwarts letter. Like that should have been a give me for the collectors edition, could have even tied It to the game by having specific text related to why we are starting late as a 5th year
I live in Australia and I can’t help but laugh knowing the price tag of this edition is $500 AUD. People somehow still pre-ordered it because pre-orders are gone already.

Yeah, but I think that’s mostly cause EB had a monopoly on sales for the collectors, no other store (except Amazon for PC) was given the option to sell it, so there is way less stock and allowed scalpers to quickly buy it out.
Even at the hight of my Harry Potter phase I would’ve passed hard on this.

I was hoping for a vinyl figurine/statue that’s spraying blue magic out of its want with vibrant colors, steel case, and a pin set of all house emblems in the games art style, and a Hogwarts acceptance letter with a art book.

Fr, I have only orders 1 collectors edition in my life it was 74 dollars USD and it had a music box locket a book sheet music and a Nintendo switch cleaning cloth and the collectors edition of the soundtrack with bonus songs and the game of course. And a plastic block and a wand and some digital robes is 300 bucks. I am a harry potter fanatic and I wouldn't want to own this collectors edition

Buy the hogwarts Icons of Lego instead. I has an acceptance letter. 250 euro/dollars. It is an awesome lego build look it up. I has books, Hedwig, a wand, the golden snitch, potions.... etc...
This is a rare game where I would have bought the collectors addition. To me Harry Potter is what star wars is to so many people. It's basically my childhood and I am so excited for this game. They really swung and missed here. I don't think I am alone either, if this had been good they would have sold a million of collectors addition.

Back when I was really into Harry Potter, around the time they wrapped the movies, I wanted to get a whole compendium of all the films, since I never bought them individually after only watching them in the cinema. So I got the Wizard's Collection, which in comparison to this goes hard. Not also did it come in an amazing looking box, had all the movies, digitally and on discs (DVD & Blu Ray), it also came with two maps, various hidden boxes, art books and replicas of horcruxes and tons of bonus feature. Still was kinda expensive (I think around 300 when it came out), but was also limited, so I feel like, it is far more valuable, and just looks amazing.
Still, don't wanna support JK in any way, shape or form anymore anyway, but yeah, this does look terrible!

That book/wand feels like a product that they couldn’t figure out the marketing for so they threw it into this games collectors edition.
Like I could see myself walking by that at a Barnes & Noble listed for like 60-80 bucks and laughing at the idea of it going for that much. So instead they combine it with a full game and some extras for a bundle edition.

@@RSgaming1337 fear of missing push people into making unreasonnable purchase. That’s why even some over price piece of garbage can sell as well as it does. That and reseller (that are using the frustration and fear of missing to resell items for an even worst price).
Now tbh i don’t agree with saying that bad collector happens because of pre-order, i think it’s the strengh of the ip that don’t push them to make much effort for a collector since it will sell all of them even with minimum effort

These "collector's editions" are often very limited productions, usually only a few thousand units are made, and only available from the studio during the preorder window meaning you either get it as a preorder or you have to pay ebay scalpers 5 or 6x the otiginal price to own it.
Honestly, the only difference the non-existence of pre-orders would achieve is delaying the mad scramble to buy collectors items until release day. At least with the large window until release, they have the opportunity to realize "this collector's edition isn't selling well, maybe we should do something else instead..."

I‘ve paid 220€ and that includes the game for 70€ alone. So 150€ for a detailed statue and a lot of nice gimmicks. It’s a good deal (but in my honest opinion, only if you’re a fan of the original P&P Franchise, the game was something else 😅)
I'd go crazy if it was a grimoire style art book with game tips, maps, and trivia. And if it costed $150 and came with a figurine that you couldn't easily DIY.
That book could have easily been a guide book. I have a collector's edition guide book for one of my video games and that book is gigantic. It has maps, a detailed walkthrough, game tips, a detailed list of the inventory items, tips for beating monsters in the game, and limited edition concept art. Seriously, the developers of Hogwarts A Legacy really missed the chance to have an awesome collectors edition guidebook.

They should have made an actual book you can page through of in-game secrets, spells lists, or a game map at least, and then have the wand floating on top of the otherwise pointless steel CD-esque cover. That would've been a genius idea. Or include, given the price, and additional puzzlebook. Something like word puzzles, that unlock in-game secrets so you can hit the ground running, tips and tricks, giving some more purpose to pre-ordering the game.
I actually like the book and spinning wand. It’s a pretty cool magical affect, though I wish it’d float much higher

I remember waiting in front of GameStop for the midnight release of Halo Reach. My buddies and I all got the big drop container with a huge statue, two books, a steel book, so many good things.
That was my last midnight release. Sweet memories.

I love the fact that a marketing team sat down, had an actual meeting surrounding the contents around the Collectors addition and this is where they landed. If this took place in April, I'd be saying they're trolling lolz

As someone who made this mistake many years ago: do not collect or spend any money on plastic and vinyl toys. They will rot, get brittle, stink, and eventually your collection room will be a stinky room full of broken toys worth 1/100th to anyone else what they were to you.

Crikey the profit margins on this collectors edition must be through the roof. That injection molded plastic, wire and magnet cost less than $2 in materials.
Regarding collectors additions: I bought the total war: shogun 2 collectors addition which was a chess set with the pieces correlating with game units. It’s brilliant, the quality is class and I still use it to play chess
I think they missed putting some Art book and music cd. Lot of Collector's editions have those and its already done most of the work, you just have to package and organize the work done through all the game and its done!!
I remember buying some collector's editions for less than $50 on sale like Far Cry 4 where you got a statue and notebook or Brother's in Arms Hell's Highway which included an action figure and a comic book. $300 for one just sounds outrageous
I remember that as a kid I had a HP notebook that did the exact same thing with a wand to play chess. It was a magazine series with HP chess and wands and gadgets. I paid maybe 10 bucks for that notebook and wand at a time.
Knock 150, 175 off the price and I wouldn't be that mad at it, however for 300? Absolutely ridiculous.

I have to agree, I saw it and was like "really, you only going to give me a plastic book with a plastic wand" I mean they could have reached out to (i dunno) many of the wand creation shops on Etsy. and sold robes and the wand you see in-game. Or even give you a journal/grimoire-type book, that you can actually write in. The whole premise of this game is about you (the player) living out your Hogwarts experience. For many of us that is an all-time dream come true.
Oh well, missed opportunity, and with that, I will click over to Etsy :P

Ok, I wasn’t expecting to find this THIS silly. That book/wand trick is something everyone’s going to try for 2 minutes, and then never again because who’s going to want to take up an outlet space and have a cord on the floor for something so pointless?
The last collector's edition I got was for Batman Arkham City. I knew I was going to get all the DLC anyway so I didn't mind buying the season pass up front (total cost was game + SP cost) and I got a nice little statue and an art book as bonuses, and a few early access items. Whatever happened to that deal?
I've been waiting for this game for 20 years but I'm not getting this Collectors Edition, hopefully they release the game with steelbook.
Give it a month or two after release and you'll see the steelbooks in Gamestops.
Harry Potter's world is a complete shitty dystopia that I fell out of love with HARD when I actually, y'know, grew up. Couldn't we see this coming from a mile off?
It's technically just a dystopia because everyone that can use magic are too stupid to branch out.
So guns are useless because there's a simple charm that can stop bullets. Research a new spell to counter that effect or create magically enchanted ammo that goes through that one charm, boom, you've made a weapon that's better than the killing curse.
It's a middle grade series. Don't know why it suddenly has to hold up to "well akshully" scrutiny.
The series hasn't changed, it's still good. Not fantastic and flawless, but good and loved by tons of people all over the world. You have changed though it seems. Bitter and full of yourself or as you like to call it "grown up".

300$ would be cool for a wood-bound parchment book with few printed pages and blank ones packaged in a cast iron cauldron with some sweets. Just like if you were shopping through Diagon Alley.
You’re right. I paid for the digital deluxe version and I feel like getting the game 72 hours earlier was the thing that sold me into buying the deluxe version, but the collection version just doesn’t seem worth it, and 100% is a waste of money.
I never owned a collection version of any game but looking at Cyberpunk and HL, HL collection edition seems like a goddamn joke. A book that doesn’t have anything beside it being plastic and a wand? Could’ve been cool if the book was an actual book with information about the wizarding world back in 1890 as locations, Hogwarts and her surroundings, spells, actual news from The Daily Prophet about the actual events before the game itself that would lead to the start of the game. Names of the Hogwarts professors, A family tree of the 28 Pureblood families at the time until to the point of the game.
They could’ve added so much more and they choose a box with a plastic book and a wand? Pathetic and doesn’t worth the money.
Statues are always the way to go. There's also another Order 1886 statue that has Galahad crouched behind a wall in case you're interested. They released two different collector's editions.

Midnight release for 'Uncharted 3 Collector's Edition' is fantastic. Got Nate's ring/necklace, his belt buckle, a steel case copy of the game, an art book, and a statue of Nathan Drake. I still wear the belt buckle every day, made from solid brass. Quality.
Oh and the box is awesome. My statue stands on top of the box with the ring draping off it on my dresser to this day.

It's a terrible collector's edition. I've had collector's editions come with actual books, like in-game lore books and stuff. They could've easily done something like that. Nope, you get a big plastic fake book with a power brick and a small fat wand that does nothing but float. The worst part is that asking price. There are other collector's editions with big beautiful statues that have been half that price. What's sad is that people are preordering it.
