    That end engagement in the cap where a large number of ships/troops trudge towards their enemy in total overconfidence while being melted by superior firepower couldn’t have been more fitting for the Agincourt’s name

      Wasn't that a battle in the Hundred Years War? The English lost to the French in that war.

      It's questionable that that's how the Battle of Agincourt really went, but it's definitely the English traditional narrative, and it's believed to be a thing that really happened back then... and again in WW1 with cavalry charges on machine gun nests.

    Holy buckets! I made it into a Jingles video!!!! I'm Nota_Chance, and the captain of the Agincourt in that game.
    For fun, some comments on the game... A few of the players on my team deserve credit here... First, the two cruisers (Agano and Celebes) that stuck with me in the East and took the lion's share of the fire there (distracting the GC) sacrificed themselves and kept me from taking damage. Second, the Gangut that was the target at the end that the enemy concentrated on while I headed towards the cap kept them distracted and allowed me to get into secondary range.
    As far as the other team goes, as we saw, there were many odd decisions on their part. The Emerald, Wakeful and Guissano trying to torp me from astern, thereby getting into secondary range. That being said... the ones at the end where the Marblehead starts shooting and the Queen Mary and Ishizuchi decided to close on a near full health Agincourt and get into a knife fight with it are the three that baffle me most.
    Hope to see all of you in game, hit me up to division some time if you'd like.

    After all these years, I think i finally know how Jingles exploded on youtube, After all every video we viewers have to correct something he's said and everyone on the internet LOVES telling somebody they're wrong and jingles is often wrong at least once if not twice per video!
    This has somehow worked out perfectly because youtube really likes people commenting, If Jingles wasn't to crap at everything i would imagine this was a sneaky Gnome plot to rise to fame and moderate wealth.

      @Danut2 ...as their two .30 caliber machine guns chatter away uselessly at the rocket attack planes that are busy hammering Kamikaze, Kamikaze R, and Fujin into scrap metal while everyone on the enemy team stops to shoot at the "brokenly over-powered" destroyers the carrier planes are spotting. And also as they are madly rushing to get out of radar range of rogue Atlanta, Indianapolis, and Belfasts... while being hammered with rapid fire, cruiser caliber, HE shells...
      I agree that the Kamikaze, et. all... can still be strong ships, but in the current meta they have an unforgiving play-style. If you can remain undetected and get hits with the extremely fast and hard hitting torpedoes you'll do well. If you get spotted, you'll have a short and unpleasant game. The days when simply having a Kamikaze w/ a 19-pt captain meant you would be able to feast on the tears of tier 4 through tier 7 battlesheep drivers who don't have a clue what a rudder and throttle are for ended with the CV rework back in 2018.

    Funny story: back in December, when WG gave players a free T5 premium ship container, I managed to roll the Rio de Janeiro, while one of my friends rolled HMs Agincourt. Not realising we had basically gotten the same ship, we decided to test them, and upon seing the similarities I decided to google the Agincourt, having previously heard Jingles talk about the story, but not remembering any names given by either Brazil or Turkey. Ended up with a good laugh once we discovered that yes, we were indeed sailing the same ship.

      I'm *fairly* sure that happened at least once during the 1984 Falklands campaign -- ISTR one of the RN frigates (possibly HMS Ardent) had its SeaCat launcher and 4.5in(?) gun knocked out by Argentine air strikes, and at least a few sailors or Marines aboard were trying to do AA with small arms. Which might have worked, to a degree -- I recall reports of some Argentine A-4s taking enough small-arms damage that they had to be "dragged" home by tankers because they were leaking fuel so quickly.

    • @ShiningDarknes
      @ShiningDarknes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@firehawkdelta The biggest thing about the time was that small arms fire could penetrate the cockpit or at least crack the glass so much the pilot can't really see so doing _something_ when you lack real AA is better than nothing. After all, if you pepper a plane with small arms rifle fire and land hits that pilot will hear the impacts and that will have some sort of negative impact on their willingness to get any closer.

    12:25 Jingles the lion's share IS all the attention. The fable goes like this: the lion is going hunting and some animal mates tag along. They get a kill and the mates split it into pieces to share, letting the lion do the distribution. He claims the first as king of the beasts, the middle bits because he's the bravest, strongest, etc. and the final piece is his because he'll kill whichever of his mates touches it first. All the shares go to the lion.

    Jingles, when you see an Italian ship whose name starts with a G, followed by an i, prepare your tongue for the English J sound. 'Giussano' sounds not like Ghussano or Khussano, it sounds Jewssano, and Julius Caesar wasn't from Iberia but from Apennines, so 'Giulio Cesare' is not Spanish Khoolio, it is Italian Jewli-oh Chezzahreh, with a J, just like the summer month of July named after him :)

  • @Vinemaple
    @Vinemaple 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tier V was absolutely the sweet spot when I played. Not only because of everything Jingles said, but because the ships have fewer annoying gimmicks and shorter ranges, forcing players to engage more closely and rely less on firing while unseen and other effective high-level tactics that make top-tier games slower and less exciting.
    The greatest throw I ever witnessed was while I was playing my V-25 in a Tier II match. I was the last player on my team still afloat, there were at least 4 enemy ships, and I was a one-shot kill, because I had been playing bat***t aggressive, V-25, chicks-dig-scars style. And I still had, like, 5.5km detectability back then, without captain skills. And I was in the enemy base in a Standard battle. So even though I was behind an island, it was OBVIOUS where I was. Or so I thought... until the entire enemy team derped AWAY from me, toward my team's base. I watched in amazement as my capture progress ticked down and nobody turned around. I won that game for my team, not by carrying it, but by... um... outsmarting the enemy? I guess?

    Just a point of clarification for me at least. Seal clubbing is when a vastly more experienced player plays with vastly inexperienced players. You can most definitely be a seal clubber in T5 battles as a T5 ship because you're more likely to run into inexperienced players at lower tiers. Also, make no mistake that a 21 point captain has a considerable effect on the game mechanics, let alone the experience of a player that has played long enough to get the 21 pts.

    Happy New Year good sir!
    I've been a subscriber to your channel since WOWS Beta and its been an absolute pleasure to watch your channel grow ( and rightly so ) over the years.
    Your sense of humour and delivery always puts a smile on my face. Its been a tuff couple of years so when watching your content in that time I forget about what's going on in IRL and just have a laugh.
    I just want to say a big thank you from me and your hard work is much appreciated.

    I have this ship AND the Rio de Janeiro - same ship, different configurations and different secondary setup. The story of how England got the Agincourt always misses the "second part". Germany had the battlecruiser Geoben (built in 1911) and a cruiser, just out, minding their own business in the Med when the first great unpleasantness broke out. Admiral Cunningham, despite outnumbering the German units by 2 cruiser squadrons, a battleship squadron and several destroyer squadrons, decided NOT to force battle but allowed them to sail to Constantinople. Once there, the Kaiser presented the ships to the Ottoman Sultan as gifts to replace the stolen Agincourt and HMS Erin. Enter the Yavuz Sultan Selim. In truth, the only thing that changed was the ensign flying from the masthead and the name painted on the side as the German captain and crew remained on board as "advisors". During the war, the Germans had kept pressuring the Sultan to open a front on Russia by shelling Sevastopol and the Russian Back Sea Fleet as the Selim was the most powerful ship on the sea. After several polite deflections, the Germans took matters into their own hands, put to sea and promptly shelled Sevastopol, forcing Turkey into a war with Russia. In 1918 she sank the British monitors HMS Raglan and M28. Yes, Winnie really knew how to screw things up.
    Geoben / Yavuz Sultan Selim built 1911, renamed CGT Yavuz in 1936, decommissioned in 1950 and finally scrapped in 1973.

    This has been a real treat old man, i mean admiral. the reds amount of stupid was, i am just gonna quote you "yeah..." All the Agincourt needed were the basics of WoWs, this has been a stunning display of overconfidence, incompetence and next level stupidity by the reds. I just immagine the poor green soul that died half through and left the match with "another blowout damnit" in mind. And then, 10 minutes later, the victory message pops up and he sees 10! KILLS! I would have begged for that replay 😀

    You definitely mentioned that mid tier games are most fun. Both in your WOWS and WOT videos.
    And no, I agree with you. You cant be accused of sealclubbing in tier 5 given the way MM works. Tier 5 is the most anti sealclubing tier of all :)

    FYI while the UK did run the spitfire funds in WW2 whenever a person/community "bought" a spitfire they didn't actually pay for one. The price the public were told it cost to buy a spitfire was £5,000. However, in reality the spitfire cost £10-12,000

    T5 can be viewed as the place where players will know whether they’re good enough and willing to grind and / or spend enough to continue recording good games all the way to T10, or if they don’t want to deal with all that and prefer to treat this as just a game they play to have fun.

    There is also the brazilian (pan-american) version of the Agincourt in the game now, the Rio de Janeiro. While they are basically the same ship, they are playing completely different. The Agincourt is a brawler and has enhanced secondaries (faster reload, longer base range and better base accuracy) but awful main guns (long reload, short range and questionable accuracy). The Rio de Janeiro is, what i would say, a Sniper. The secondaries, while quite numerous as well, are pretty standard but the main battery has faster reload (31 sec compared to 36 sec on Agincourt), longer range and way better accuracy.
