This tutorial is maybe the best one I've found for any mix process on TH-cam. I actually understand why you're making adjustments, how you're making them, how you're adjusting as you go, and what the impact is. Thank you! You're great at your job.
First, this was an awesome demonstration - tried a demo and fell in love! Purchased pretty quickly. Second.....what the hell is a "gooey", please I won't be able to sleep at night until this information graces my brain
@@UniversalAudio OHHHH LOL okay that makes sense! I’ve just never heard anyone pronounce it like that before 😂 I can finally sleep knowing this, thank you 🙏
My first step on the EQ P1 is to turn down the output slightly with the little dial on the right. Then you will hear what you are actually doing when you pul the bypass on the left
.... interesting order of operations... why not just make your change, then gainstage using the output control & the bypass button, then check?? Unless thats what you mean, but I'd hope you would trust your first approximation anyway. Getting a feel for average perceived loudness from take to take, track to track, and song to song is very important and meters shouldn't be necessary.
@@semchristis3624UAD is likely boosting the output so when you inserted it sounds louder / better. The above users our game matching the plug-in first due to its inherent flaws / cheap marketing tactics.
Man - where does UA find you guys? Matt/Drew/Ben -- ALL of you are excellent teachers and exceptional at what you do! This was beyond helpful and this Pultec collection is my go to for sure! I can't thank you enough for making excellent products and additionally following that up with these helpful videos. Superb! Cheers - JPM
I just started using these plugins I’m amazed that these plugins just deliver what is promised I was mixing a rock track where the guitars where just not cutting it, Ipulled them up with a bit of the eqp1a and I was blown away with the changes it made it pops en stays musical which I tried to preform with stock eq and it just didn’t work the way I wanted! Thanx UA and I’ll add some extra love for your poly max synth it’s a blast and fun synth without an abundance of controls but still a deep synth fun!
In Ableton I made a rack which boosts and attenuates 60hz using a single knob which you’ve done here 2:02. Ever since I started doing this, it been on all of my songs.
Ah yeah ... supposed to be on office Zoom (all-employee) meeting and saw this while waiting. Needless to say ... this volume is UP & the other way down! I own this EQ Collection, but have not dialed it in. Thanks Matt for the continued excellence in delivering exceptional value add quick-tip sessions. Rock on UA team!!
Awesome demonstration - maybe it's me but I feel like that 300hz boost on the ACG would wreak havoc on the bass and some drum elements in the context of the mix.
So the bandwidth button only effects the high frequency? GUI is kinda confusing, its not clear which button effects which frequency? I think its also better to show visual effect on frequency spectrum by using plugin doctor or something to better demonstrate the magic of boosting and cutting at the same amount. Thanks!
I thought the acoustic sounded better before. The 300hz added too much “Charlie Brown adult” honkiness for my taste. Probably comes down to taste, but it’s hard to know out of context from a mix.
Interesting to see him EQ the drum bus - I was like, "That's a great idea! I wonder if everyone's doing that!" I googled it and found what I should have predicted: a bunch of dudes arguing about it on forums.
Works just a real Pultech, Old tip, if you engage it on a kick or bass track and just start selecting the low frequency knob (without adding gain), you can often find a nice sonic pocket to make those two instruments speak well and find separation in the mix.
Little message to the graphics department: In your video, it's literally impossible to know when "bypassed" or "enabled" is selected. Black on white has the same graphic value as white on black. After a couple of switches back and forth, I had completely forgotten which is supposed to be which. 🤔
Hello Matt and community, I have a situation and is when I use EQs and I use high frecuencies I have like a pink noise, especially for th 12kHz, do you know why? on the other hand, if I try to use more plugins the noise increase. What can I do? I can see you use the Pultec boosting the 12khZ AROUND and you don't have "hiss" or "pink" noise.
The amp simulators are Unison-ready, so I insert my Engl or Marshall into Unison insert, and they sound great! But that leaves me with zero options for all the pre-amps and channel strips and EQs that go before the amp signal...? Is it pointless to insert all those "unison" preamps, in the "inserts" section? Thanks all!!
Hi UAD, I have a spark subscription and I constantly have to reach for waves ssl channel and other plugins that UAD has,,,,,,,when are you planning on expanding the spark collection....... These plugins are just not enough.
@@UniversalAudio Agreed, these are excellent plugins but at £21 UK there does need to be a bit more available to keep subscribers on board. If it goes up in price beyond $20 then that would be another consideration to whether I'd continue. Other plugin devs have an absolute stack available for around $20. I certainly want quality over quantity and I feel UA do this well. If anything adding a few more of the higher end quality effects like Capitol Chambers and the Lexicon 480 would be awesome as would the Fender 55. Gueas time will tell.

the results sound a bit thumpy and boomy.. the acoustic guitar was better before eq, the drum EQ brings out the fundamental frequency of the snare way too much, makes it sound nothing like a real kit, although the 500 cut was necessary.
The "Legacy" versions are our older emulations that don't model the full circuit path such as the transformers, tube amplifiers, and other nonlinearities. In short: the full versions sound more like the real thing!

Wow 40 seconds of pure marketing nonsense speak at the top. Can we stop trying to sell for a moment and give real, quantitative information? No wonder people are still suckered into thinking analog gear is inherently magic
With the Pultec you can and SHOULD!! Those two filters are different types. So while it appears you're countering each process, you're not! The cut is a peaking type filter and the boost is a shelf. So they work in tandem to blow up the bottom end while making sure the low mids stay clear.

I second this statement. I almost forgot I was learning, how easy it was to do so.

Pretty nice. But I'm still trying to figure out what each one specializes in. I just know I should be using them more.🙂

Correct.
Great examples. Also, thanks for using a DAW other than LUNA.
I have the three of them..Is it anyway to have the three simultaniously openning only ione of the eq plugins?
There is not, sorry.

Unison is an interaction that only needs to happen once. So your amp sim is handling that, and you can place other plugs after no problem.
