One of my fave bands ever, they really deserve more attention! The music is great, the live performances are great, the outfits are great, the videos are great and they're always pushing themselves and trying new things. Sadly underrated. Please keep going down the Avatar road, new album out this Friday! Singles are awesome so I'm sure it'll kick ass, RIP our necks. Also, never heard about "Circus Metal", can we please stop creating these absurd subgenres? Lol 😂
Avatar is one of the best live bands out there right now. For something really heavy try "Hail the Apocalypse" live from Wacken. For something completly different try "Puppet Show" live from the same Show in Poland. And a little fun fact: Johannes, the vocalist, is fluent in german since his mother is from Gelsenkirchen.

They released their latest album, "Hunter Gatherer" plus did a lot of interacting with their fans via multiple Q&A sessions throughout the pandemic last year. They've all stated multiple times that not being able to tour had affected them as much as it has affected us in not being able to see live music and for them to play their music live all over the world. They even brought in 2021 in a way they had said they would most likely never do: live streamed performances. Every Saturday of January (or "Avataruary" as Johannes changed it to), they did Avatar: Ages. The first set was the new album in it's entirety plus a bunch of songs that made them the most money. The following sets were songs voted on by the fans from their entire catalogue, most of which they hadn't played in 10+ years! They put up videos on here, one each from the 4 shows and I highly recommend that everyone watch them because they're AMAZING!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I'm pretty new to Avatar but really love Johannes' voice. He has an incredible range, and a deep, rich tone in his 'normal' singing voice. The word you couldn't make out was 'Dirt'. That verse is "Come, Bloody Angel / Break off your chains, and look what I've found in the dirt. / Pale, battered body - seems she was struggling / Something is wrong with this world."

I like this band. Nice gitar works and vocal. You have totaly right, it's a circus metal. For me it's a prog melodic black metal. I like clean voice part in the midle of song. Great reaction.

I'd say my fav band right now, they are soo good, and they love what they do! They often get named melodic death metal but they are alot more. They'r elike... avatar-metal? :D And they have sooo much varied music. If you like the heavy ones you should listen to Silence in the age of apes, colossus, let it burn, torn apart, hail the apocalypse but also really like the king welcomes you to avatar country and the new land :D
Its nearly impossible to get Avatars sound by just listening to one song, you have to do more! Hail the Apocalypse, Let it burn, Colossus, Smells Like A Freakshow, honestly their entire discography.
I would say, the guys are somewhere between Power metal (at least style wise, during their 'Avatar Country' era), speed and death metal mix? Not sure, but who cares what genre something awesome belongs to, when it's awesome? Their music videos are also GREAT, with that cheeky humor. And the live and studio version sound quite different often times, live being heavier and harder. I think one song, where the live version surpasses the studio version by far (at least for me) is 'Smells Like A Freakshow' from Wacken. Johannes (frontman/vocalist) is just as amazing as Floor when it comes to interaction with the crowd, and he is completely in his role on stage.
