Anthony is too enamoured with lightsabers for his own good. I love Ezra's monk style fighting. And it makes sense that he prefers it. He's been training without a lightsaber longer than he trained with one.
As Kanan repeatedly told Ezra and Sabine, a lightsaber doesn't make you a Jedi, the Force does. Ezra always used the force to heighten his reflexes and abilities, so now he's used the past 10 years to continue training the way Kanan taught him.
The ultimate goal of a Jedi is to move beyond the use of a lightsaber and become enlightened. It's what Yoda spent all of Empire Strikes Back explaining to Luke. Ezra as he is now is a good example of this. After all remember Luke didn't beat the Empire with a lightsaber. He beat the Empire by throwing his blade down.
In Ezra’s defence he hasn’t used a lightsaber in 10 years plus so he trained with the force and his hand to hand which is exactly what a Jedi should use if they don’t use a lightsaber. Wielding a lightsaber after being rusty can be extremely dangerous that’s why Jedi and with constantly train to use one. Not to mention the community he was living with was a peaceful species that had no weapons. He did extremely well using no weapon against shin.

I actually really liked Ezra's fighting style and I thought seeing an unarmed Force user vs. a lightsaber was great. Didn't feel robbed of a cool lightsaber duel at all. I mean we were getting one with Ahsoka vs. Baylan at the same time anyway. And this show has had plenty of saber duels already, so I appreciated that Ezra vs. Shin was a bit different. I would have liked for it to go on a little longer than it did though.
Minor thing.... Not sure if anyone notice but Ezra's "chainmail" armour looks to be made out of (Stormtrooper?) *_dog tags_* !! Guess we now know why Thrawn said his numbers had dwindled over the years. That's one large body count. 😬😬
This might actually be the answer to why he refused to take the lightsaber. He killed so many in the past that he was now really trying to renounce being so violent.

@@veeclash4157 I dont think the lightsaber had anything to do with that. That actually matches what used to happen in Rebels perfectly. Sabine said to get her, at which point Ezra recklessly charges trying to impress Sabine and he lands on his face. This happened about 14 times in Rebels.
Ezra hasn't had a light saber for ten years, it makes sense that he wouldn't readily use one. He's probably been more in tune with the force, hence his response that it was his ally and all he needed. He was doing quite fine without it.

Even in the Canon Thrawn books, Thrawn had met Anakin during the Clone Wars and later served alongside Vader and put the pieces together. He actually kind of toyed with Vader, making little jabs at how he was so similar to someone he once knew.
I mean it seems he hasn’t had a lightsaber in his hands for 10years, I’m sure if he would to do a couple training sessions he would be able to pick it back up fast. But 10years is a long time, when he most likely feels much more comfortable using the force as his weapon in his current state.

I thought it was refreshing that he didn't take the lightsaber. That is what everybody would have expected, his style was really cool. On that same note, it has likely been 9-10 years since he last used one, it would have been weird for him to use it and be great at it. As far as I remember from rebels, he didn't seem to be superb with it either.
Naah it was dumb. You're about to go into combat with people who have lightsabers and dozens of storm troopers. Going bare handed is really lowering your chances of surviving. Remember that deflecting blaster bolts is one of the main advantages of a lightsaber. Unless they are trying to show that Ezra feels so overconfident he thinks he can beat an unknown enemy force user plus Thrawn's troopers bare handed. It still makes very little sense.

@@alyssataylora i watched Rebels. and i actually felt his first lightsaber design was best. it combined the lightsaber with the utility of a blaster. whatever happened to that weapon? you'd think he'd have built a new lightsaber in the 10 or so years after giving his away to Sabine. what disappointed me most was how underwhelming his 'weaponless' force fighting was. he got knocked out like a chump by Shin and actually had to resort to stealing a stormtrooper's blaster to fight effectively. makes turning down the lightsaber look even worse in retrospect.
This episode is showing audiences who never saw Rebels why Thrawn is truly one of the greatest and most formidable villains in Star Wars history! This man never sweats, and learns as much from his defeats as his victories. And in the canon book Thrawn: Alliances we learned that he also fought and served alongside Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars AND when he became Darth Vader, he even managed to deduce that they were the same person, even though Thrawn never had any actual evidence, while neither Vader NOR The Emperor could read his mind with the Force! Also all Rebels fans know that if Chopper and that dick Senator Xiono were in that room alone, Chopper would kill him in a way that would make even the creators of Mortal Kombat sick to their stomachs.🤣🤣
Thrawn does know about who Vader is, although he never said it explicitly to to him i believe. He was one of the few that knew(or atleast suspected) that Anakin and Vader were the same person.
I actually loved that Ezra's character was able to Force fight like Yoda, Yoda at times never even used his Lightsaber - force slapped Emperor around like a little boy on their last meeting. It would have been too much if all characters were doing lightsaber - I also think Ezra found peace within himself with his new friends, a bit like being a Buddhist - only defending himself when necessary. I have a feeling that they were setting up Baylons character to take his leave from the series - did they know that Ray was ill? possibly at this point and they had to start prepping for him to leave the show? I dont know, but if they dont explain what his character is up to in the next episode I would think that theory sound, unfortunately so, RIP Ray.
Canonically, Thrawn first met Anakin during the Clone Wars. He helped him rescue Padme from a planet in exchange for information about the war and the rest of the galaxy (his people live in the Unknown Region). He came back, and during his time as Grand Admiral, encountered him again as Darth Vader where they worked together. Thrawn even figured out that Vader was Anakin Skywalker and teased him about it from time to time, much to Vader's annoyance.
I kind of think that Baylan decided to split with Shin after asking her does she feel it, does she hear it calling, referring to the power he seeks and she never answers him.
I hope Thrawn has Kanan Jarrus lightsaber on the Chimera, and that's the lightsaber he takes, maybe we even have a cameo with Freddie Prinze Jr. playing Kanan in live action.
The further they’re getting into this I feel there setting this up to be the prequel to a film. Also with Ezra, Kanan always told him having a lightsaber doesn’t make you a Jedi. Seems to have taken that to heart.
My theory. Facts: - Baylan tells his Padawan that Empires are born and die, that Republics are born and die, that this new Empire has fleeting power, and that they (the Jedi) are above these more earthly contextual facts (they are the ones tasked with enforcing the will of the Force in the galaxy, their galaxy); Baylan says he will not be part of this new fleeting Empire that is forming in the galaxy they come from, that there is something there (in that new galaxy) that calls to him, and it is a power that is not fleeting, it does not come only to leave. My triad; we do not know if there is knowledge of what the Force is in that new galaxy, but Baylan is called not to return to the old Galaxy and to stay there to make the knowledge of the Force known to all sentient beings, to bring the Jedi's utopia to the entire new galaxy (which he admires), but this time he will do it his way, not with the misguided teachings of the old Jedi. To establish the first temple and the first Jedi school in that distant galaxy, this being a power much greater than that of a fleeting Empire or Republic as he said. In short, his mission is to awaken the Force in a new galaxy, and for that, the Force has brought him there.
In the book Thrawn - Alliances (which is canon), Thrawn actually met Anakin during the Clone Wars, and later when he worked with Vader during the Empire, he figured out he is Anakin, judging by hist strategies and his flying skills and maneuvers. He hints at that, and each time Vader says "Anakin Skywalker is dead", but it's prettty clear Thrawn knows different, despite the fact he never received verbal confirmation.
That Senator that is causing all the problems, that is Senator Hamato Xiono. It is Kazuda Xiono, from Star Wars: Resistance's father. I don't know anything about him though. I feel like Kaz talked about it in Resistance. But it's been awhile since I saw that.
Thrawn first meets Anakin in the Thrawn ascendancy trilogy books. He then meets Vader in the second book of the second Canon trilogy, which is set between S3 - S4 of rebels. The thing is with Thrawn he knows not to underestimate Ahsoka because of his interactions with Anakin.
The inquisitors databanks would have all the information about Anakin, they would just think he died during the extinction. Also Ezra passed his saber down, it would be wrong to take it back. Just like Huyang said, it’s no longer his, it’s Sabines. The passing down of a saber is kind of a sacred thing to Jedi. Most of our big name heroes inherited theirs.
I was wondering if Ezra was like Obi-Wan and wasn't sure he could wield the lightsaber after so long. Fortunately, we have Huyang along to help him build another one. I like how they didn't have Hera wear one of those ugly brown Republic uniforms. She and Carson looked cool in theirs.

Ezra has only had the force to survive with for what 10 or 12 years, so made sense he is comfortable not needing a weapon to me. Balen was never on team Thrawn. He obviously teamed with Morgan to get to this place. With Jedi Fallen Order Zeffo symbols at the ruins, Filoni might tie them in as the beginning he is seeking. Season 1 ends with another jump to hyper space, setting Mando S4 and Ahsoka S2, which then culminates in the Filoni movie

Love the reaction. It was a good episode right before the finale. But as far as nothing happened, maybe I wasn't watching the same show. Plenty of stuff happened, we finally got our team united after so long. I don't feel robbed of a fight, Ezra has been sitting without a saber for 10-15 years. I feel we are going to get a great finale, but leading into the Filoni movie. My prediction is that Thrawn returns, (with our ragtag group as well) and movie will probably be giant battle against Thrawn.
Baylan is seeking Abeloth who happens to be The Wife to The Father and Mother of The Daughter of Light and The Son of Dark from Mortis, and it feels very plausible that she would definitely show up eventually why, because she was in fact banished to a galaxy in the unknown regions, which nobody in Star Wars will probably ever explore, I would love that though for it is an area in the Star Wars Universe where only the most haunting of creatures and unpredictable beings lurk and I bet you Baylan is going to find Abeloth in the final episode, after all she is a powerful being of the force and power is definitely something she would offer to Baylan along with a false promise of that power and that might be how Baylan dies!! 😁😁👍👍
So Disney is not allowed to change anything that george lucas established as canon (at least in his movies) without permission from the lucas estate. That is part of the terms of the contract they signed when buying lucasfilm. That is why disney hasn't released original versions of episodes 4-6.
Thrawn does know about Vader - he deduced it on his own based on Vader’s similarity in battle to Anakin - however, he wisely chose to stay quiet about it.

Disney officially declared the Expanded Universe which was the Books, Games, and Comics made Pre-Disney as "Legends" which meant they were no longer canon to the films and Clone Wars the Animated Series. BUT here's the thing. The "EU" was never canon. This was George Lucas' official stance on the Expanded Universe. He always maintained it was a parallel universe to the films and he even ignored it in his sequel trilogy treatments he wrote.

@@alyssataylora i watched Rebels. and i actually felt his first lightsaber design was best. it combined the lightsaber with the utility of a blaster. whatever happened to that weapon? you'd think he'd have built a new lightsaber in the 10 or so years after giving his away to Sabine. what disappointed me most was how underwhelming his 'weaponless' force fighting was. he got knocked out like a chump by Shin and actually had to resort to stealing a stormtrooper's blaster to fight effectively. makes turning down the lightsaber look even worse in retrospect.
This episode is showing audiences who never saw Rebels why Thrawn is truly one of the greatest and most formidable villains in Star Wars history!
This man never sweats, and learns as much from his defeats as his victories. And in the canon book Thrawn: Alliances we learned that he also fought and served alongside Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars AND when he became Darth Vader, he even managed to deduce that they were the same person, even though Thrawn never had any actual evidence, while neither Vader NOR The Emperor could read his mind with the Force!
Also all Rebels fans know that if Chopper and that dick Senator Xiono were in that room alone, Chopper would kill him in a way that would make even the creators of Mortal Kombat sick to their stomachs.🤣🤣
Thrawn does know about who Vader is, although he never said it explicitly to to him i believe. He was one of the few that knew(or atleast suspected) that Anakin and Vader were the same person.

I actually loved that Ezra's character was able to Force fight like Yoda, Yoda at times never even used his Lightsaber - force slapped Emperor around like a little boy on their last meeting. It would have been too much if all characters were doing lightsaber - I also think Ezra found peace within himself with his new friends, a bit like being a Buddhist - only defending himself when necessary.
I have a feeling that they were setting up Baylons character to take his leave from the series - did they know that Ray was ill? possibly at this point and they had to start prepping for him to leave the show? I dont know, but if they dont explain what his character is up to in the next episode I would think that theory sound, unfortunately so, RIP Ray.
Canonically, Thrawn first met Anakin during the Clone Wars. He helped him rescue Padme from a planet in exchange for information about the war and the rest of the galaxy (his people live in the Unknown Region). He came back, and during his time as Grand Admiral, encountered him again as Darth Vader where they worked together. Thrawn even figured out that Vader was Anakin Skywalker and teased him about it from time to time, much to Vader's annoyance.
Ezra's subued down-to-earth entrance is a foil for Thrawn's pomp and bombast.
Baylan is after the power that he felt on the planet that is why he came all this way!
If that power he seeks is The Mother, I'd definitely freak out! 😱
I kind of think that Baylan decided to split with Shin after asking her does she feel it, does she hear it calling, referring to the power he seeks and she never answers him.

I hope Thrawn has Kanan Jarrus lightsaber on the Chimera, and that's the lightsaber he takes, maybe we even have a cameo with Freddie Prinze Jr. playing Kanan in live action.

Facts: - Baylan tells his Padawan that Empires are born and die, that Republics are born and die, that this new Empire has fleeting power, and that they (the Jedi) are above these more earthly contextual facts (they are the ones tasked with enforcing the will of the Force in the galaxy, their galaxy); Baylan says he will not be part of this new fleeting Empire that is forming in the galaxy they come from, that there is something there (in that new galaxy) that calls to him, and it is a power that is not fleeting, it does not come only to leave. My triad; we do not know if there is knowledge of what the Force is in that new galaxy, but Baylan is called not to return to the old Galaxy and to stay there to make the knowledge of the Force known to all sentient beings, to bring the Jedi's utopia to the entire new galaxy (which he admires), but this time he will do it his way, not with the misguided teachings of the old Jedi. To establish the first temple and the first Jedi school in that distant galaxy, this being a power much greater than that of a fleeting Empire or Republic as he said. In short, his mission is to awaken the Force in a new galaxy, and for that, the Force has brought him there.

In the book Thrawn - Alliances (which is canon), Thrawn actually met Anakin during the Clone Wars, and later when he worked with Vader during the Empire, he figured out he is Anakin, judging by hist strategies and his flying skills and maneuvers. He hints at that, and each time Vader says "Anakin Skywalker is dead", but it's prettty clear Thrawn knows different, despite the fact he never received verbal confirmation.

Thrawn first meets Anakin in the Thrawn ascendancy trilogy books.
He then meets Vader in the second book of the second Canon trilogy, which is set between S3 - S4 of rebels.
The thing is with Thrawn he knows not to underestimate Ahsoka because of his interactions with Anakin.

Yep, I had my struggles with Thrawn in the last episode. But this time, Lars was 110 % Thrawn. Loved it.
The inquisitors databanks would have all the information about Anakin, they would just think he died during the extinction. Also Ezra passed his saber down, it would be wrong to take it back. Just like Huyang said, it’s no longer his, it’s Sabines. The passing down of a saber is kind of a sacred thing to Jedi. Most of our big name heroes inherited theirs.

Ezra has only had the force to survive with for what 10 or 12 years, so made sense he is comfortable not needing a weapon to me.
Balen was never on team Thrawn. He obviously teamed with Morgan to get to this place. With Jedi Fallen Order Zeffo symbols at the ruins, Filoni might tie them in as the beginning he is seeking.

I’m halfway through the episode and it is easily my favorite and the first I thought was actually really good.
Love the reaction. It was a good episode right before the finale. But as far as nothing happened, maybe I wasn't watching the same show. Plenty of stuff happened, we finally got our team united after so long. I don't feel robbed of a fight, Ezra has been sitting without a saber for 10-15 years. I feel we are going to get a great finale, but leading into the Filoni movie. My prediction is that Thrawn returns, (with our ragtag group as well) and movie will probably be giant battle against Thrawn.

Baylan is seeking Abeloth who happens to be The Wife to The Father and Mother of The Daughter of Light and The Son of Dark from Mortis, and it feels very plausible that she would definitely show up eventually why, because she was in fact banished to a galaxy in the unknown regions, which nobody in Star Wars will probably ever explore, I would love that though for it is an area in the Star Wars Universe where only the most haunting of creatures and unpredictable beings lurk and I bet you Baylan is going to find Abeloth in the final episode, after all she is a powerful being of the force and power is definitely something she would offer to Baylan along with a false promise of that power and that might be how Baylan dies!! 😁😁👍👍

It is a cool easter egg that they brought in George Lucas to direct Sabine and Ezra's line readings. (There is no other explanation.)
So Disney is not allowed to change anything that george lucas established as canon (at least in his movies) without permission from the lucas estate. That is part of the terms of the contract they signed when buying lucasfilm. That is why disney hasn't released original versions of episodes 4-6.

Disney officially declared the Expanded Universe which was the Books, Games, and Comics made Pre-Disney as "Legends" which meant they were no longer canon to the films and Clone Wars the Animated Series.
BUT here's the thing.
The "EU" was never canon. This was George Lucas' official stance on the Expanded Universe. He always maintained it was a parallel universe to the films and he even ignored it in his sequel trilogy treatments he wrote.
