you bought this for off-road work, so you want off-road steer tyres...
gunna need some airbag assist at rear, underlift too low for off-road, traction loss
imagine a cut-down skip [but wider + longer], hi-ab it on the back for burners + total loss, then you have a 2 vehicle capability, even a cheeky 3 perhaps
90% sure no limit on drive axle tyre age
Ahh makes sense! I Knew there would be a story somewhere. Got some good tyres on it now have wait for the part 2 ! , Underlift does raise ALOT alot more, no idea why they left it low really. mmmm let's see what happens! Correct but didnt want to risk a blow out when on a job etc as I see it everyday with old tyres, so rather new for peace of mind. Thanks for watching GDB

Tow in the snow using soft strop ( Round sling) From the The winch fairlead it pulls down on the back and aids traction
Years ago when I started in recovery in glasgow,their was a company called Ashfield recovery and they had a similar style wagon. An old Ford d I think it was, anyway that wagon had a platform that allowed you to carry a car on back by hi abing it on. Self built and pretty unique at the time.

Nice truck. You need to check the transfer box out. Low, diff lock etc

Reverse is right over to the left and forward , almost on a diagonal. 8 speed boxes tend to be to the left of first and 6 speed to the left of second . But not always 😂
We got there in the end didnt fancy destroying gearbox on day 1 🤣 Thanks for watching GDB

hi. great video, can you still get spares for this motor as we had them back in the early 80s.first thing you need to do is change oil and filters all the way round.needs a lot of work to get MOT, good luck
HI Yes spares are still around for the old mercs! Yes I will get the garage to give a full full service over everything prior to being driven on the roads, give her a fresh lease of life! It's already had a pre mot, and actually doesn't need as much as some may think! = bonus , Thanks for watching GDB

You got it! BUT I also couldn't miss out on the t244 hence why I bought it just in case somebody else got it! , BUT yes Mercedes is its replacement and can be put into work a lot lot quicker. Thanks for watching GDB

I thought the 10 year ban on tyres only related to steer axles.
Coming in for drives as well, if its not already in.
Yes I could get away with it this year, but do I want the risk of a blow out on an old tyre whilst on a job etc, nope 6x brand new tyres already fitted! Thanks for watching GDB

Difflocks work? They're expensive when they go wrong. Lovely truck though. I miss working recovery!
That thing is awesome, Dad thought you would get a Unimog ( bit more expensive) next. When are we getting a team gdb#1 fleece jacket with all the new sponsors on ( like superbike team ones )😁👍👍.Love the content, never know what's coming next
She should be a good work tool if all goes to plan! , UNIMOGS are cool but I was hoping with this merc could be used as a near on daily should needs must with horse boxes, motorhome, over weight vans etc.. fleece is a good idea will have to look into it!! lots of new stuff coming very very soon! that should make a decent tow / recovery truck would have thought that would of be capable of towing loaded truck`s up to 18ton and empty truck`s up to 26ton gvw ??? !!!! , the hiab will come in handy for lifting thing`s [ not only car / wagon related ] keep us informed on the update`s

Very nice Mercedes 👍 do you know the vehicle annual test expired the first test was 31, December 1995 has not been done yet you're correct mate Mercedes no longer put Mercedes-Benz on turcks is just Mercedes it might have a dodgy gearbox what were the previous company might have rammed into reverse

@@GDBRescueandrecovery I wanted to but couldnt justify the money he was asking for it at the time I enquired. I am looking for a Daf T244 though that isnt stupid money and hasnt been half converted to an overlander.

Nice truck mate! Another mercedes 💪🏻I had a blowout this year with a (brand new) trucktyre. Dotcode 2613 😂. was stored at our yard.. better safe than sorry.
