This video really just scratches the surface for the amount of power the Morningstar MC6 Pro can punch. I had a ton of fun making this one, and I’m constantly dreaming up new ideas to try with MIDI. Do you guys want to see more MIDI videos?
Interesting seeing you move across to using the Morningstar MC6 Pro. Just built my new board around that as well, using song and part presets but also building the flexibility for spontaneity as well. Thanks for sharing. It's inspired me to start a TH-cam channel and do a board run down video soon to share the learning.
@@SamWittek I would love to see your board in action on a Sunday morning when you are playing live with it. I am intrigued by your new midi setup, the way I have done it is very different so I'd love to see how it works for you on a Sunday.
Great video! Love the idea of using midi to make the board more accessible while minimizing time programming! One can always go back and program every song if they like, but quickly can have something that will always be highly functional.
Thanks! Yeah I really like how open and flexible this setup is. If I was in a touring situation where I was playing the same set list multiple times, then I’d probably program song specific banks. But this workflow has been great for me!
Thanks for producing these outstanding videos on how to build a live board with fast access to the essential ingredients of tone! I’m now using two of your ideas on my MC8, the more/less reverb buttons and the BPM selector. My other 5 first page buttons are Clean, Rhythm, Lead, Digital delay, and Tape delay. Whenever I need a new delay preset I long press on either delay button and jump to a bank of 1/8 & 3/16 options, each with low, medium, and high mix varieties.
just upgraded my board. also got the mc6pro and the ml10x(looper switch from morning star) it's a LEARNING EXPERIENCE to get this all dialed in correctly but thank you for this video. My church very much so does spontaneous worship the majority of the time and we don't use a click at the moment (i know, we gotta change that lol). That being said, i've never been a fan of having presets for songs specifically and wanted more of a video example of ways i could set up the controller for just different sounds in general. This was PERFECT.
I’d love to see more videos like this. I am looking to buy a MIDI since I am getting tired of tap dancing. I was looking at this one precisely so this just sealed the deal for me.
@@SamWittek I think routing different presets and patches would be the most useful. I have the DD-500 & RV-500 and it's getting old having to tap dance when I change around the presets needed for songs.
do you have any videos showing how you set up the MC6 pro with the timeline and big sky? Like, is the midi out plugged into the timeline and then midi pass through to the big sky? How do you send midi to the timeline and tell the timeline to ignore it and send it to the big sky?
I don't have any other MIDI videos at the moment but I'd like to make a deeper dive video at some point. I just have a MIDI cable going out of the Morningstar MC6 Pro and going into the Strymon TimeLine, then MIDI out of the Strymon TimeLine and into the Strymon BigSky. Then I just make sure the TimeLine and BigSky are on separate MIDI channels. Hope that helps!
What message are you sending for scrolling between presets A, B and C on your BigSky? I can’t figure out how to do that with one button push on the Morningstar. I can do it with 1 click is A, double is B and long press is C, not ideal in the moment of a song.
It's a PC Number Scroll, here's a super helpful video by Morningstar walking through how to set it up: th-cam.com/video/p2vQuG3fLYs/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=MorningstarEngineering
Great video. How do you have your MC6 Pro Editor settings set up that allow you to navigate sequentially navigate presets with just one tap? I know Toggle Mode allows you two set up what happens on Tap 1 and then Tap 2, but I can't figure out how you're navigating through so many presets with just on tap? Can you share what your settings are in the editor?
So did you send the Big Sky 6 messages from switch A with the last one basically the same as the first one on order to increase the reverb then return it to the minimum?
Hello Sam, can any of the Omni Ports on the morningstar be used to switch on/off non midi pedals such as a TC Electronics Corona Chorus or would I need to use morningstar ML10X for that?
Hey sam, Im interested in this controller, but my main question is this: I play at church like most of us and I want the tap tempo to line up with the click so the repeats on my delay are exact. I have a lot of parts that become very obvious when repeats are slightly off time. Is there a way to program change the bpm and then tap the 1 so that the MC6 pro can snap the tempo on closest to the time of the song in the room?
Sam, I recently discovered you on TH-cam and I am really enjoying your videos and learning lots about worship tone! A couple of years ago I put my pedalboard away, which contains many of the pedals you own, and I purchased a Kemper Stage. Have you tried Kemper? I am curious if you can achieve your desired worship tones with a Kemper?
Thanks Mike! So glad the videos have been helpful. I personally haven't tried a Kemper but I know they are definitely a really solid option for dialing in these types of tones!
Building a new configuration on one of my medium pedaltrain boards and trying to decide going with a MIDI switcher like MC6Pro or using an existing Boss E-5 midi pedal switcher. The Boss E-5 is a bit outdated, and I like your semi-manual setup. I'm using a med size board like yours. I want the ability to do rock and indie pop but getting into ambient stuff. Will be adding newest pedals: H90, Brig Delay, Cloudburst. Have Bigsky and Timeline on my other boards, they are great also. Your setup is very cool! Good work! Also like labeling layout on MC6! Do you have stereo amps? I'm using Badcat Cub and 64 Fender Dlx handwired...sounds epic.
I'd recommend the MC6 Pro to anyone! There's a little bit of a learning curve in getting it set up but I love how you can use it really any way you want. I've actually changed up the way I use it slightly and will be making a follow up video soon going a little more in depth with the programming, so maybe that'll help with your decision. I do run a stereo setup too, not REAL amps but two ToneX pedals in stereo 😉
Very good scroll msg programming on MC6PRO. I got the MC6PRO last week! Did some msg scrolling (sequential preset with one button press)....love it! I like your graphics with UP and DWN arrows! Yeah, I love my live amps, but the ToneX with updated firmware is crazy good for the money. Keep up the good work!
Morningstar is great but I decided to go with the new GigRig Atom G3S. Check it out. I'll be using the Atom with a remote Loopy 2 for bringing in my ToneX profiler along with my mono/stereo effect pedals..
Hey that is a great question! I'm sure there's a way to do this but it's not something I've experimented with. I would think that you might need an amp modeler that works with MIDI, and you could program functions to ramp up/down the volume similar to a volume pedal?
Great video Sam. New subscriber here. Could you share with me some of the settings you use for your Big Sky presets? Love the decays and shimmers you have.
love you rpedals i havem some o fthem too... but i dont want to mix computer and pedals. the boss es series you can proigram from the unit, no computer needed. got a morningstar and thought it was awesome hardware wise, but the software is a no go so i sold it
Hi Sam. Same request! I enjoyed the video but I can't picture how you can set up one switch to cycle between 6 presets. If I email you can you send me the preset file just so I can see how you have it set up?
The location of the mc6 pro on your pedal board is stressing me out. You'll need to step over the entire board to reach the pedal that you will use the most. This is unacceptable! Excellent video though, thank you!
