The kick sounds huge, which is a good thing for certain styles, and difficult to handle for some others. In what I do, I need non boomy, short kicks, with powerful dynamics. And I've found a way to do it beautifully on the Alpha Base by coupling a normal kick that I set very short (a lot of metal noise and attack) with a membrane kick.
wow this is amazing. at 11' theres a percussion sounds like Metroid in percussion like the bubbles.. . the drones in this and the tonal elements are great. nice rythyms too has a bit of an afx vibe, but you really went somewhere else. keep kicking this vibe for sure. very original and fresh. the sound design... 💥
Thanks for commenting! I've never played Metroid but after listening to Metroid Prime's soundtrack I can totally hear similarities. Don't know if I'll continue with this aesthetic because I come to each project with a different mind set and feelings so they often sound different. But I'll keep that in mind for sure :))
The reverb section on the alphabase is very musical and its feedback sounds are also very useful and dangerous at the same time. Once you put your own samples into it then you understand what its about. Still best drum mashine out there. Thank you for sharing-sounds great 👌👌👌
man ive had this drum machine for a year but have barely used it and haven't put the work in required to get these kind of results. I have an original tr909 and machinedrum and because im so used to them, the alpha base never gets any love. But this video has inspired me to give it another shot instead of selling it. much love!!!
@@davidackermans9155 That's a difficult question to answer. IMO it's rather easy, but some people online say it's buggy, bad UI, unintuitive etc. Check out the manual, maybe it will give you some idea.
Great Mati! I didn't know your channel, wow this track is the bomb, I produce dark ambient, and the initial part of your project is crazy! You have a new sub!
There are so many people who are clueless to how good this drum machine is, I've yet to make a track with mine but am almost done re-setting my desk. I have an ADAT dedicated to just for the AB then stereo out on another ADAT. I have 1 more bit of gear coming in and I think I am set, but playing the AB live is where it's at, 16 controls per page for manipulation is brilliant, then you have page B on some sounds. I don't know of any drum machine that allows you to do as much as you can as with this. To compare, I have a Nord 3P drum, with a paltry 1 knob lol.
Think of it as a brace of highly tweakable drum synths (and an FM synth!) with good VCA's in one box. So yeah, daunting... but worth it if you have the attention span.
Lovely video, amazing sounds! I've been performing with the Alpha for a year and a half (coming from 999 and 888, plus MFB machines). It is deep, but a bit quirky, though much better than the 999. I don't ever recommend it to friends... because, to be honest an analog Rytm or a Syntakt is much more capable and quicker to learn. But Alpha is unique, and I for one and sticking with it. Jurgen is a genius, and geniuses can be a little clueless/chaotic sometimes. This is not a complaint, really.
Wow. This is amazing. You're really great at this! Do you do live shows with just one box? Darkroom with this and great visuals would be a great show, if you could do an hour (or more!!!) Why are all these new Alphabase videos popping up in my recommends, did something happen?
Thank you! I only did a few live shows with just the alpha base and they weren't as good as I'd like them to be. I like to improvise a lot but to do it for one hour and keep it both musical and not boring I need to be in a creative mood, which doesn't always come. I'm currently working on a solution to this, introducing a looper to my setup. This way if at any point I run out of ideas on a particular pattern I can just loop it and fade in a fresh pattern. Will be uploading more about it soon.
@@MaharadzaStunt Super cool. I always imagined love live shows would be best serve by planning tracks out, and switching devices, for sonic variety. Never tried to do anything like this, tho, always been on the production side of things, mostly jungle. Would love to collab!
Awesome, finally somebody who has understood the machine :) :) Fantastic what you are doing with the Alpha, thanks so much for the creative work 💓🙏🙏🙏❤
Coming from you, it's the highest compliment. Thank you for creating this mighty drum machine!
Thank you Jürgen for the Alpha Base, I love it to bits ! This is my favorite piece of gear in my set up.
I really would like to know what he would do with the resonator neuronium🤯🤯🤯❤️
Cool jam!
This is what happens when one limits one’s options. You dig deep. Great work.
Wow man, that's one of the best demos I've heard... and you managed to make the kick sound good.
Thanks! Although your comment makes it seem as if AB's kick usually didn't sound good, which I disagree with 😅
@@MaharadzaStunt haha for real... jomox devices are known for their great kicks

Superhaaard❤ loving the sound of alpha base, it’s my dream drum machine, at least as far as the sound goes 🫠
Congrats on a great jam, very atmospheric utilizing more of the capabilities of this legendary machine that you just don't see on utube.
You have mastered this drum machine. Amazing.
Very well executed

Superb, different and hypnotic ! I was deep in a mysterious jungle at some point...
Thanks! Deep in mysterious jungle is exactly what I felt while playing it too 😁
You might want to listen to Spicelab´s Spy vs. Spice album...
@@MaharadzaStunt That’s my feeling too, superb work.
Is this a difficult machine to use?

Man, this was a great listen! I’m seriously considering an Alpha Base and selling off a tr-8s and lxr-02 to help fund one of these bad boys.
