This turned out so good. I have tried a few recipes like this but yours is the best. I used 12 cups of tomatoes, 10 cups of onions and maybe 5 cups of bell peppers. I followed the same amount of sugar, vinegar, and spices. I used brown sugar as you suggested. It was plenty of liquid for me and canned up beautifully. Thanks for sharing

I've eaten this all my life, only we call it chow chow and boy did it have a kick to it!!! Growing up we ate pinto or blackened peas just about every meal and potatoes. Chow chow helped to make the same ole meal a little special. You need to try fried green tomatoes with some sour cream to dip them in. They are not just good, they are, SOME KIND Of Good!!!😂 Thank you for bringing back some good memories from some hardship days gone by!👍👍👍👍

I got mine years ago at a yard sale for $5 and thought I'd give it a whirl. One of my all time best buys. I hit it when I have to, but many times just slamming down the lid repeatedly does the trick.

One year I made a relish with green tomatoes and tomatillos, it was yummy. Also, in the South a lot of folks like it on beans like pintos, etc. It's delicious!

I have made about 10 half pints following your recipe, I just made another batch, but I did it a little different. I added one apple 🍎 and I added 1 tsp. of Cinnamon & used brown sugar. Big difference thank you 😊
I too love my chop wizard! I broke mine mid canning season and I was in a panic. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime. I made this relish for the first time this year and my husband loved it.
I wish I had seen the pepper chopping last year. Or year before. I use the same chopper but the peppers just mush through. THIS past month I figured out how to chop them. Instead of mushing them. & it’s just like you showed. Instead of slices. Chunks that will lay flat. Skin side up. So glad your making more canning videos.
I have 10, 1/2 pints jars in the hot water bath, and I have 5-2oz jars in there too. I will have to finish with a second batch, maybe get 3-4 pints jars. I tasted it and it is so good 👍

OMG Bev you need to try some fried green tomatoes they are so good. They are easy to make and a good way of using green tomatoes up. The relish is good to by the way have made it a number of times. Won't be long before the snow starts to fall. Hope you get most of the things you need for winter stocked up.

Really you never fried green tomatoes, oh my, my, my. I even can them green to fry through the winter. If my brother is around I could never do enough. This recipe sounds and looks just like the one my mother in law handed down to me, the only exception is that hers also has cabbage in it. My daughter in law is from Ukraine and she asked me to make green tomato pickles, I fortunately found a great recipe and we all love them. It helps to remind her of home, even tho she is a US citizen now.

If you haven't tried fried green tomatoes, you need to try them. It is a common side here in Kentucky. My daughter begs me to make them as soon as the first tomato is large enough. 😀
Last time I had green tomatoes I made fried green tomatoes. I use the centers and the ends I made your green tomatoes mince meat. That was last year I still have a can or two. People just love that recipe for mince meat.

Can you explain why you put your jars in water after you have filled he jars. If you have heated your jars and lids in the oven and you are filling them hot why do you need to water bath them?
This sounds like what we eat here in the south as a side with fried catfish. Have you heard if this is that particular relish. Even if it's not, I think it sounds like it is definitely worth making. Thanks. Jesus bless

I like to use cider vinegar and brown sugar when I can. It makes a big difference in depth of flavour!

Try 1/2 - 1" thick green tomatoes slices, dredged in seasoned flour, buttermilk, & breadcrumbs. Pan fry in a butter oil mix. Lay on bread slices, add your favorite cheese slices, & grill them. ( grilled cheese sandwich style). Absolutely delishous!

Do the math honey! Measure out how much you have in vegetables..then adjust the recipe accordingly.
