@Ethan Hunt just a family friend that Taylor found in Maya’s blog called Rockstar Ronan. It’s been amazing to grow through life feeling our own little attachment to Ronan through Taylor’s and Maya’s words. We’ve all grown from this experience. I was already a mom when I saw Taylor sing this on Stand Up to Cancer, but I hadn’t been touched personally by this form of cancer. Amazing that we were all able to feel Maya’s pain and Ronan’s all those years ago, and that she directed all proceeds from this song to pediatric cancer through the light that was Ronan’s connection to us all gave us a mere glimpse into the tragedy that took Ronan from us, but also the inspiration it gave us all to enact change.

This song has always been heartbreaking, but adding the pictures of Ronan absolutely destroyed me. I'm crying. This is why people call Taylor Swift a lyrical genius. It's not wordplay or cleverness (though those are interesting and enjoyable), it's the raw emotion that she can convey just with words and a melody. Rest in peace, Ronan.

I'm 64 and knew very little about Taylor Swift until this NFL uproar in 2023 and 2024. Beside the fact she was a huge star I knew nothing about her or her music. I'm so glad she's a role model for the youth of today. This story of Ronan, this beautiful song and her charitable work is a bright light in an all too often dark world. She makes the world a better place🙏♥️
This is such a beautiful tribute to this child’s mother and family. There are so many children that we have lost to Pediatric Cancers. Our family is still very fortunate to have our Glioblastoma warrior still with us at 4 1/2 yrs old. She visits St Jude for Brain MRIs every six months. Then she visits lots of children in the midsts of their hard fights and shines her magical light as she walks the hall of St Jude Childrens Research Hospital. Local moms in NC send her with Barbies and Toys to pass out to the kiddos. She is only 4. She tries to read books with them. Most kids that survived cancer and are still fighting, are so compassionate. It is amazing❤️

The first year of grief is the hardest thing i’ve ever been through in my life, i’ve never lost a child and i can’t imagine the pain you are going through. I know that this was eight months ago, but i also know for this kind of grief that’s not a lot of time. It’s a traumatizing experience, and i can’t tell you that it will be okay. I do know that there are days where you will be able to look back at the two years with your son and be happy that you had that time together even if it ended way too early. I know i’m a stranger, but i know for a fact that you are so incredibly strong, and that’s been tested these past 8 months but just the fact that you did this shows that. i’m sending love to you and your family ❤️

Taylor is keeping his memory alive and for the maya (ronan's mum) it was really hard and she said in an interview back in 2013-14 timeframe that she was having another baby and ronan would be so happy to be a big brother to a little sister or brother. and when this came out in 2013 every time it got played money would go into the Ronan's foundation.
Our son is currently 2 years old with kidney cancer. He has 4 treatments left. This song is amazing in so many ways, I cannot stop the tears. No child should have to go through this.

We had to say goodbye to our almost 4 year old daughter Isa on December 5, 2017 due to a brain tumor and when I say this song has helped my husband and I in ways we cannot explain in our grieving process. it's the hurts to hear and I hate that there's so many parents that sadly can relate to this song. Just came here to say that this song reminds me of the song “Robin” from Taylor’s The Anthology album. It’s the same concept and the names are so similar. However, “Robin” is actually about Aaron Dessner’s son. That’s not the point, I know, but they’re both alike in terms of singing about the innocence and purity of children. The song “Ronan” still makes me cry to this very day. It’s just a lovely tribute to a beautiful boy. He was gone way too soon… it’s just not fair. He and his family deserved more time together. Sending prayers to not just his family, but anyone who has lost a child. It’s the worst kind of grief one could ever possibly experience. I love Taylor Swift for doing this. This is why she’s my favorite artist. Thank you for keeping Ronan’s memory alive in this song 😭❤️

I'm honestly not sure why those lines break me every single time, but they do. I guess it's how it flips the narrative from sorrow to gratitude. It also shows just how much Maya loved and was inspired by him, in turn making me FEEL just how much he meant to her.

She (Maya, Ronan's mom) used to dress Ronan. So she might go into his closet and see the clothes he used to wear, and be acting like she's talking to him about the times he wore some shirt to some event, or like a Halloween costume or something. Basically, those clothes are associated with him and her brain is trying to say he can't be fully gone because his clothes are still here.

I think the issue here is probably the phrase "hand-me-downs". Hand-me-downs [clothes in this case] are things that have already been used by someone else, but that they can't or won't use anymore. I have some cousins who were a few years older than me, and so when they outgrew their clothes, my relatives "handed them down" to my parents, and I wore those clothes when I was the same size as my cousin once was. It saves money to do it that way. What she's saying with this line is that she had clothes from relatives that he was supposed to grow into and wear at some point. Even though he'll never wear them, she's keeping them anyway as a constant reminder of her baby boy and what could have been.

She played it live twice. Once on the Stand Up 2 Cancer benefit show on TV and then again at a concert in Ronan's hometown where she invited his mother to the show
She also gave Ronan's mum a co-writing credit for the song. She's a gem 💎

It very melancholic to me, though it really helps me remember everything great about her and why she really was the best time of my life and brought so much happiness and love. This song lit the flame inside of me to help kids. It started as a pediatric oncology nurse, then a special education teacher and now I work with kids with autism. My happiness really comes from my kids and helping them learn and grow everyday. Thank you for starting that all Ronan and Taylor. I owe my life’s work so far to this one song, it really changed my life way back in 2012.

This song means so much to me. Seeing someone you love passing away by sickness is one of the worst pains anyone could ever feel. I honestly think this must be the most emotional song by Tay, and is so sad to think it's also stolen from her. The Taylor's Version didn't come just to prove this song is hers, but it came to makes us see how important it is to pay attention to people who are in hospitals, just waiting for some miracle to bring the cure. Some can't have that, just like our little ronan. I bet there's a world where everyone who couldn't stay here with us because of their illness won the 22 hat. RIP Ronan, and everyone we ever loved but couldn't handle it anymore. And my honest "I'm sorry" to all people who had to watch flower pilling up in the worst way as well.

My aunt recently passed away after two years of fighting against ovarian cancer. She was such a strong warrior, until she flew away just a day after her husband's birthday, leaving a promising future, together with her husband and three little kids, behind. She in a better place now, but we all miss her so much. It's heartbreaking to see how many people can relate to this song. Sending strength and hope to all the cancer fighters and their loved ones around here
I swear this hits different when you have a child. I listened to this when I was a teenager and I can't help but cry. But it's even more heartbreaking to listen to now that I've become a mother. I lost my grandma to cancer this year. This song captures my feelings so well I can't help but cry every time I listen to it. My grandma also fought like an army guy and I'm so proud of her. Even though I miss her so much, I'm at least glad she's no longer suffering and trapped inside a "curtained room in a gray hospital". I moved into her house in 2018, so in someway she also gave me my best four years. Thank you, grandma! ❤️
