Hi Jerry and Linda! I have been watching your videos from the beginning since last week because I just got back from a vacation in The Villages. My best friend and I came for a needed relaxing vacation and HAPPENED to rent a house in The Villages on airbnb. NOW, I'm in love and want to make a permanent move!!! I have to tell you that coming from someone who has never been there, never saw the windmill or the water tank thingy, it was Still very impressive and not at all fair park. We loved every bit of our vacation getting to know The Villages!!! Love from Wisconsin!
I think they could pretty easily shore them up and replace the support columns one at a time... Maybe use steel I-beams for durability, and box it in with wood, for esthetics...
I cannot believe that I will miss see the windmill and the water tower, by 2 weeks. I will be at The Village, taking the Lifestyle package starting May 29, 2022. I was looking forward to see them and other places. My such Luck missing it, it reminds me The Little House in the Prairie TV show. Jerry and Linda, keep up the great video and information. I hope I will see you or meet you while I am there, if not, continue doing what you are doing. I have learned a lot and if things work out I might be moving at The Villages late next year or early 2024. Be safe.
Hopefully they will be taken down without any problems and then rebuilt - that's my 2-cents. LOVE SEEING MR. SCHWARTZ SPEAKING!!!! GREAT THAT WAS GREAT!
The only people who who should get a vote are the residents South of 466 who are going to end up paying the bulk of the costs. Those still rickety looking fences in front of the square were recently replaced to the tune of $65,000. By the way, Aeromotor, the maker of the windmill is still around and sells steel towers for under $10,000.
I am not a Villager (yet) so my opinion doesn't really count, but I don't think these structures are even 10 years old. Why didn't the developer spend the necessary $ during the construction phase to build a longer lasting tower & windmill?
What is the theater at Brownwood being used for these days? Only one movie theater at Lake Sumter Landing for 135,000 residents? I think movies in the theaters will be making a significant comeback this year..just saying.
Linda, Didn't know you were a building contractor. I need a new roof. You incubated that you work for cheap. I'll cook you supper. Jerry also . 🤣 Love your videos 👍 * Incubated? There's a blooper. * Incinuated 🥴
Mr Schwartz talking was the best part of this video!! I don't understand why they didn't use pressure treated wood in the first place. But I'm glad they will repair or replace. I have a photo I took of Brownwood Paddock Square as my laptop wallpaper picture.
Hey Jerry and Linda. Tearing down the windmill and the water tower. Wow. Will definitely change the area. But safety first. Looks like more ppl want to keep them. Or at least rebuild and put them back up. Oh wonderful. They will be restored. Keep everyone happy. Thanks for sharing and see you next video.
The owners are BILLIONAIRES they could pay for the replacement out of their petty-cash. It would be a write off against their taxable gross profits. Amazing this is even an issue.
The surprising thing to me is that the residents have to pay to repair the town square. I had previously believed that the squares and the surrounding commercial properties were owned by the developer, which is why they are open to residents and non-residents alike.
Millions of $$$$ are being spent to expand The Villages. Keeping the existing ambiance OR improving it should not be a problem. Safety comes first...so repair or replace...but PLEASE do not simply remove. Residents pay amenity fees monthly and chose The Villages for a reason.
If they do not rebuild it, that would be completely ridiculous! This is the first thing I saw when I came to The Villages for the first time. It caught my attention and I still remember the vibe. Hopefully they’re smart enough to rebuild them to keep their feeling in the villages
That price to rebuild sounds crazy. Why on earth would it be that expensive? You can build an entire house for that price. They should get bids from 100 miles away if they have to and put the contractor up in one of their lifestyle villas while they do the work.

This is one thiing that confuses me, why didn't these designers, engineers think about construction material and doing it right the first time. Rebuilding them with the proper materials and then maintaining anything cost money. But we have all this technology, different materials but nothing lasts. The pyramids have been around for 1000 of years, but we can't have structures last 20 years.
I'm so, so glad they are going to be rebuilt!!! Hooray!! They are such landmarks and keep up the amazing charm of the town squares. Thanks so much for this information!! Always such fun to see your videos. :) Have a wonderful day!! Mia
I don’t understand why they simply can’t remove the bottom 18 inches from each post (the rotting portion) and treat and seal the fresh ends before reattaching them to the anchors.
Great video, short and sweet, so didn't really get my J&L fix... haha... but thanks, very interesting!!! Any video you make, I'll watch!!! Happy Thursday!!!
Should be rebuilt with better materials like the material used to build the bridges across the highways. And PAID FOR OUT OF OUR AMENITY FEES LIKE THEY WERE WHEN THEY WERE ORIGINALLY BUILT.
Maybe all the villages could come and help build then, also have a lottery $1.00 a ticket with a price of a very nice dinner ?Jerry very clever the statue talking 10/10
Who ok'd using untreated wood? Were the same builders used for the homes in the area, what was on the building plans to use, for the water tower, and windmill? The builders are responsible. let them pay for replacement, I don't want to here them say "I am not Responsible", or "Wasn't ME"!
They're coming down for safety reasons. The proposed build back with pressure treated lumber has a life expectancy of 10-15 years - per the District Property Manager. No bids have been received yet for the rebuild, the $225K is the budget requested to bring the old ones down and build new ones. Nothing is final yet beyond bringing them down for safety reasons. PWAC is requesting alternative material ideas that will keep the ambiance but be a better long-term solution/investment, initial pushback from the design team (the developer) is NO, must be wood and look the same, but the developer does not own or maintain these two towers, the Brownwood CDD (a local government) owns them and their maintenance falls to the Project Wide Agreement (like many other things here in The Villages). This "budget resolution" came on the heels of a proposed 15% increase to the CDD assessments for the Project Wide Fund (due mainly to minimum wage increases) and a change to the PWF accounting that removes most of the administrative costs from the PWF budget and bills them directly to the individual CDDs (more cost increase for the CDDs), the cost impact of this move is still unknown, at least for my CDD, CDD-10, as the proposed budget hasn't been published yet by district staff. PWAC is wary of "budget estimates" being provided for projects after the huge increase seen for the Lake Miona walking trail project. We (PWAC) are also wary of the fact that the developer appears to have the only say in what happens with these two items but has no skin in the game (they have no financial responsibilities for the rebuild or maintenance costs). The end question will be how much are we (the residents) willing to spend to maintain these features knowing full well that we will be revisiting this again at a later date. Thanks Jerry and Linda for putting out this information.
Thats way to much money to demo them...One nights work.....Thats no more then a 75k job.........With a crane!...Talk about a rip off....Easy road access, nice lay down area...And nothing in there way
Removing them permanently just makes Brownwood more vanilla. The 3 children of Mr Morse put so much effort into Brownwood because of memories of where they came from . I would vote for a rebuild for safety reasons. Thanks for your wonderful videos; I always look forward to them!!! The Villages will be my forever home someday, and I love being able to keep up with new developments through your channel. I'll be there again in September for my lifestyle visit - just booked. Good news that they plan to rebuild them. To be honest, I'd be glad to pitch a few bucks into a fund to rebuild them--I bet a lot of people would. With upward of 100,000 of us here, I bet plenty of money could be raised.
In my humble opinion, It appears that the bases are deteriorated. Not knowing the extent of rust and condition of the rest of the water tower. I would remove the base concrete and cut off the rotted few feet of wood. Rebuild the bases with columns of concrete about 3ft above ground and counter set per code, below ground. Comment......Looks like and easy repair. And sounds like the Villages just has some money burning a hole in there pocket and in a few months they are going to wish they did not spend 200k to tear them down. 200k to tear those down is crazy.......Probably one of the Villages relatives is doing the work and will be laughing all the way to the bank.
@@JERRYANDLINDA From the looks on your vid... looks like the base could easily be repaired, 200k to rebuild is high though, You could build an entire home for that and then some.....

Do what is required for safety but leave the landmark features at the top. Maybe a special assessment of a small fee per home in Brownwood?
