I have a plan to address the price increases in the future...
#1 all budget tools will receive a price range in first 3 minutes of the video
#2 I will be making a value guide to go along with my budget multitool video.
First run budget products are always lower priced when hitting the market. Once companies see how they sell they adjust the price to fit the sales.
They are currently unavailable at amazon
Just looked,,,,$23.99
These reviews of budget tools are great. But beyond an unboxing, a great idea would be to test then to destruction. Use a torque wrench or whatever, see where their limits are, versus LM or the other big names. Because nobody is surprised to see a good feature set in a cheap tool. What will be surprising is durability.
Honestly..for a long time finding a good toolset was a surprise..now it's as you say...a matter of durability
@mightbesherwood1313 How about you spend your money on these tools and you destroy them lol. 😂
If he does that you may be surprised how quick the leathermans break. In my experience they haven't been very tough
@@USMC852He doesn’t make videos for the general public to view. That’s why.

Where can i purchase the multiforce!? I can't locate it anywhere.
Got to go with the green model. The real benefit I see is you can buy 3 or 4 of them for the price of one Leatherman then distribute them around where needed. For me that would be the car, workshed, office, retreat . . . so carrying them around is not an issue. Having said that I'm a Swiss Army Knife fanboy which, depending on the model, never takes up much pocket space. The "Camper"- $25 does everything I need it to.
As an early adopter of Leatherman, I have a number of great tools that I paid a very reasonable price for. I'm not a buyer of a $250 multitool. The budget tools are a very compelling option. Thanks for sharing.
Agreed - the $250 multitool I got was used for a few days, then placed into the collection case. Still beating on the Gen 2 Wave I bought used years ago. If I were to replace that, the workpro would probably be it.
Work pro and company are ALL made by the same factory in China
I never regretted buying leathermans, very durable and warranty has been amazing this far.
I completely concur; however, I'm not a buyer at $250. @@JJ79_
Why on earth would anyone put a $250 knife in a collection case? $250 isn't worth collecting, use it or return it imo there are simply better investments to return on your money down today...
I had one of the first leatherman waves made. After about 25 years it broke, i used it daily.
Sent it back to leatherman they sent me a brand new one at no charge.
Best tool I've ever owned.
Value for the money is top notch.
Just checked 12/22/23, the company raised price to $35.99!!
18APR24, they are $29.99
I've been using the workpro quick-change folding utility knife for years... they were so useful i gave them away as stocking stuffers. Affordable decent tools still exist!
Love the multiforce. My Leatherman tools have ended up being more for collecting for me, and the new value models like this workpro are users because they have gotten so good.
Sadly enough I paid $16.99 for most of the wingman multitools that I have (5 of them, most were modded to single sided tools). They have gone crazy on their pricing for some of those cheaper models that should be hovering at the price point of this multitool. I also grabbed a few Bolsters with decent sheaths from Costco last winter for $20 a piece. I am glad someone is still bringing out a decent multitool at this price point now that Leatherman has abandoned us.
Man ain't that the truth... I'm a huge leatherman fan. My wife recently got a cheap multitool from her job is sucks and she uses it often I was gonna get her a cheap Leatherman. .. lmao no such thing probably gonna get her bond in a week or 2.
Love the wingman honestly probably the best edc multitool leatherman hasn’t discontinued. What’s so hard about getting outside scissors on a leatherman? There’s only like 3 models with that I can think of.
Yep I remember buying my first Wingman from Sears for $20ish... That I carried for years before finally getting a Free P2, last year.... And agree about scissors.. Only reason I upgraded to P2 was the outside access scissors.
@@TechLeatherCraft 2011 my ex wife got me a wing man for 30ish from wallmart I loved it.
Yeah the prices are crazy now I think Wingman’s are over $40 now I bought mine for $25
Thanks for the tip! I just bought one of These a second ago for 21,99 €.
I already own a Bibury Multitool and I am very happy with it.
Now Im going to test out the New Workpro as soon as it arrives.
Thanks again, all the Best and merry christmas.
Greetings from Berlin 🙂
really like your selection! I was singularly impressed by the Bibury 21 tool set up. Great bit driver and just well done all around. I always wanted to get my hands on the Klein multi tool Blackfire... to me that was an incredible effort, I would put that as the best, followed by Bibury. I just do not consider SOG cheap, but they also belong and are a personal favorite of mine, along with victorinox. The Blackfire had a solidity to the tool set that you could see.
This WorkPro looks, from your video, to be a real solid effort. It really stands out if they cast the blade in a superior steel!
Thank you for this review! I been searching out how to create a compact edc pouch on a tight budget.
This is perfect to put in some sort of emergency kit where it will spend most of its life in the dark and not used, but there, at the ready, if & when it's needed.
I have had a wingman for about 8 years now. Never had a notion to get another one. This one is hard to beat at the price for a bugout/get home bag. Thank you for the review!
So, the vendor saw this video. It's no longer the same price.
Oh no! How much?? Here in the Philippines they are 1050 pesos or about $18 each 😊
Blue one looks great for outdoor work… good price, toolset and color. I recently lost my Surge at the community gardens!
Great video. I agree with the bit driver idea 100%.
I have a sidekick that I carried with me when I served in the army, still works great but I don’t carry it as much since I am worried about loosing it now. This seems like a great replacement for a edc. Thanks for the video! 😊
Update: they are sold out on Amazon
I would like to see an episode for just the best full-size multitool regardless of price, and all an episode of the best min-multitool regardless of price. I enjoy all of the budget stuff! Believe me I do, but I'd like to see a "BEST OF" no matter what it costs. Just so I can compare, I will very likely still go with the budget multitool in any case, but it's nice to have as much info as possible before making that decision. Love the show!
You are one of the few bringing light to the budget multitool market. much appreciated. many years ago I lost my prized possession. a leatherman surge. it was a gift from my wife at a time when we were not in a position to afford such things. meant everything to me but the Hunter Mountain ski lift upstate NY had other plans. I’ve had a few since, but not that one.
Omg..that fing sucks...I know that feeling..lost my first leatherman 8 years later off a boat...
i started to lanyard things so they are tether to you; in case of dropping or falling out of pockets
@@lalew2Lanyard with a tile bluetooth tracker?
@@mikkowus just a lanyard to the item and then loop to my belt - no tracker.
@@mikkowusPro tip: take a brightly colored pool noodle, cut it down to about 12 inches, run about 30 inches of paracord through it and attach it to the tool. You can cut a slit in the foam to hold a Tile tracker. You'll never lose your tool. You can even cut additional slits in the foam to hold extra bits and other edc accessories.
Just pulled the trigger as I saw this video. TBH I am done with leatherman for budget multitools, and will keep my surge as heavy duty option, but for a daily use this is really good value for money
I was debating on buying the Leatherman free p2 or the Gerber center drive a while back for work. The only reason I went with the center drive is because the pliers are spring loaded. Spring loaded pliers are so much easier to use. Great video man, might have to pick up a pair.
Just make sure you swap the carbide wire cutters for a set that this channel has shown on his modded Center-Drive video
Agreed. That's my only real gripe with Leatherman multitools. The spring loaded jaws on other companies tools are a big relief on hand and wrist fatigue.
@@dualsportedc No thank you. Channels screw up the things I use them for.
Dude, these are AWESOME! You are killing it here! I lose stuff too much to pay more than $50 for a multitool or pocket knife now.
👍👍👍
Way back, my Daughter gave me for Christmas, a Chinese knockoff ('no name brand') of one of the original Leathermans. It cost then, ZAR 99.00 at Cape Union Mart when Leathermans were going for ZAR 699.00 and more.
It has given me many years of good service .. inter alia, assembling new 'flat pack' office furniture (when nobody else at the office had even a SAK on them 😁 .. I did 😏).
Yes, the carrying pouch was a cheapo. However, having 'beefed' it up with additional strapping, it now does what it has to do.
A good post .. thanks. Take care ..
I appreciate your multitool videos
They're the best participant for mods. Cheers mate. Great Christmas & safe New Year. Stay safe from Australia.
Very nice review, brother. Definitely see you this beats out a LOT of budget multitools. Looks like it beats out my current multitool offerings at more than half the price
So...24 hours after the video premiers, the tool goes from $22 to $32???
Honestly I am a big fan of workpro tools. If your ever looking for a good screwdriver I really recommend workpro's 12 in 1 ratcheting screwdriver. It's by far the best screwdriver I have ever had and reminds me of tools from the 90s with how clean the ratchet works on that screwdriver. Sure they are cheap tools but are usually high quality for the price. For example I recently bought a cheap socket wrench set for 12 bucks because my old one broke. And in comparison to the set that my boss paid 50+ on from husky. it preforms miles apart due to the husky set didn't even have a full sized wrench and had fewer options in terms of sockets and extenders. The only plus the husky has it slightly heavier sockets than the workpro wrench.
Super Idee - sehr gerne mehr hierzu. Dankeschön!
Informativ und gleichzeitig sehr unterhaltsam.
Workpro are $29.00 now as of 12/21
I'm in the pool and hot tub industry. Cheap multi-tools saved my day a few times. Also love my snap-on version
As of today 12-29-23 the price is 36 bucks on Amazon. You made a video and they raised the price! So much for that! I was gonna buy one!
I have a range of both , I prefer leatherman if I need to depend on it , but most of the time , the others will get the job done , if your not too hard on them . The micra is a must for your first aid kits .
Gotta admit, the lack of a spring is the only thing I dislike about my BIbury Surge clone. That's a bit annoying, but the rest of it is pretty good. I would still have been very tempted by this one, though, had it been out when I got it. I agree that the swappable bit driver is better than dedicated screw heads, though.
I carry my Bibury every day! Love the thing
Great value. Worth consideration at slightly higher price point is the Flissa. Got mine for $32 and it’s perfectly practical.
The bibury is cheaper with a bit kit at $25 with good customer service
Which one it that? On their website the only one I see for $25 is the hammer thing. @@maxlvledc
EDIT: Nevermind, I found it on Amazon for the $25.99
$32 as of today, but still a decent price. I agree about the "quality" vs "price" issue. I lose knives way too often. So I buy knives in the $7 to $12 range (Harbor Freight). I can buy 10 knives for the price of one "quality" knife. If I lose one of those I am irritated, but not crushed.
I love your intro. No time wasted
My brother in law gifted me Swiss Tool about 20 years ago. It's a tank and still going strong. I would consider one of these though.
There may be a purpose why Leatherman has that pinch point. If you squeeze too hard, it makes contact to stop it before the plier breaks.
As leatherman aqua signal I am happy there is blue version
I might be rare user but I like when tool is in high visibility - I do not want cool camo pattern that would make sure I would not find my tool once I drop it in the woods
I saw HVAC budget's video on these and I almost pulled the trigger. The only thing that stopped me was the lack of a bit driver.
I have one of the earlier Leatherman’s. It might be the wave; it’s the one that had a nice compact leather belt case. At that time I think if I paid around $40 for it. I happened to be looking and it was no longer carried but not that long ago they made the exact same one as an anniversary limited issue. That was $100.
The best part though even as I still have that one I ran into something at a summer flea market that caught my eye. There was a Leatherman Clip that was sitting marked $8 or
$10. I asked the guy if that was right and he said yes. He answered before I asked what was wrong with it. He explained and I looked. Someone had dinged up the end of the fine screwdriver and broke the very tip off the end of the clip blade. I grabbed that. Took it home and did a little dressing with the dremel & fine cutting disk. Presto. Good as new and didn’t cost an arm and a leg. I always liked my original as it was compact in my pocket and used for fishing.
I picked up a Mossy Oak 21 in 1 Spring pliers for $11 on Lazada and was shocked by the quality for anywhere close to that price. Thanks for the vid!
I have the old full sized leather an made in the USA it's over 25 years old and still a wonderful tool, as far as I am concerned I would not be able to leave it if if were lost.
Apparently Amazon saw you coming! The price of the Workpro when following the link you provided is now $32 USD, not the $23 you apparently found it at. That's a 40% increase in price in a relatively short time, depending on exactly when you got yours. Wonder if they upped the price in anticipation of a rush for stocking-stuffers?
@@brianf5190 Same here. At $23 I would have pulled the trigger on that, but now I'm going to at last wait until after the new year and hope I remember to take a look to see if they drop the price back down after the Christmas rush.
More like in anticipation of being out of stock for a long time. With China having major natural disasters and economic collapse, these may never come back into stock.
I’ve seen several items increase in price on Amazon after a video comes out. $35.99 for it now.
Awesome and I trust you so I'm going to order one for myself thank you
Best video in this category
Great Discussion- Makes you Wonder why Leatherman [Ben Rivera] NEVER made any attempt to fix that "Wave Pinch" issue or improve the scissors after all this time!
The clones are here and getting better! ....even the scissors 😐
The fantastiCAR multi tool on Amazon is also a good bang for your buck. I keep it in my tool bags for framing and whatever else I’m doing. Had one for two years before I lost it but it was no brainer to get another for 30$. The colors are kind of Enh but it’s tool that gets dirty lol
Was very excited to hear the price point and was ready to buy on the spot, but sad to see the price went up. I get it. But as someone who's on a tight budget, that $10 turns it from an impulse buy into *maybe* a birthday gift for myself. Wishlisting it, with hopes it does go down a lil more or they do a sale.
Looking at the happenings in China with their almost certain economic collapse and the natural disasters befalling them, this may never come back into stock let alone drop in price.
Thanks for the shout out! Great review!
As far as only having the two Phillips heads instead of interchangeable bits, most of the times you’re going to need a Phillips bit, so that works for me
Will the Rebar bit adapter work with this? It might need a magnet to hold it, but it is about the same shape. Thanks for sharing everything that you show us. Your awesome.
I’m buying one. I’ve always fancied a multi tool and at this pice (£18 in UK) I’m going to order one on amazon today 👍🏴🇬🇧
I'm always curious about the "squeeze test" .I'll always remember this cheap multi-tool I used where I squeezed it someone hard and the handles simply bent together, basically making the pliers useless after that point. Speaking of not wanting to lose an expensive multi-tool, there was this one time a co-worker needed to borrow my Leatherman and later on when I went to go get it back from her I found that she had simply left it out on the sales floor where any customer could have just taken it.
Subsbscriber here, love your vids, however here's an idea, test the cutting tools not just the scissors so we can see the kind of file they bring from factory.
Keep up the good work!
I've replaced the Leatherman Ps4 squirt with a less expensive keychain one, that out performs it. (Nextool EDC Keychain Multitool). My Leatherman Charge is still in one of my cars. That's where that thing will stay. It's trash, but may come in handy in a pinch.
When the multitools go at Home Depot watch the yellow dot area. With Leatherman tools, if the last of them dont sell, they get pennied out, then thrown out. (I watched them do this before). When HD decided to discontinue selling the Rev, I bought 6 of them for $27 in total, about a week before they would have gotten trashed.
I have 4 lms with broken springs. Wingman juice squirt and style. Might get this one for the wire cutters since knipex cobras dont have them
These just jumped up by $10 to $32 today, which is what we might call…the Max Lvl Effect? I’m sure sales really jumped after your shining review!
😅, something I didn't anticipate
It totally sucks when you miss one of these uploads on the day it happens, then check online and NOBODY has it.
When I received this WorkPro 18-in-1 multitool (purchased after this particular, enthusiastic review), found that the outer implement wood saw wouldn't lock into position - all other tools , both external and internal, DID lock firmly into position.
The only way to get the woodsaw line lock to engage was to use a screwdriver to force it over, and repeated attempts to do this to wear in the lock face were fruitless.
I started a return to exchange for a replacement, but wouldn't receive it until mid February 2024 at earliest, and it being end of December, and the original faulty multitool having to be returned by Feb 1, 2024 to avoid being charged for the replacement, I figured this wouldn't end well if left to chance so I disassembled the end of the multitool securing the woodsaw, and (lightly) filed both the liner lock and the woodsaw blade tang to get them to positively engage (after which I cancelled the return).
* In the repair process discovered that the woodsaw has exquisitely sharp teeth, and so baptized the multitool with arterial blood from a few cuts on my thumb.
The Swisstech wave clone has the same screwdriver #0/#2 as well. The Swisstech clone has a black coating that makes it handle much easier but I feel like the metal quality is a lot lower.
Good video as always, Leatherman is going to have to seriously up their game.
I just checked Amazon and now its going for $35.99. If you got them at the cheap price good for you 👍
Great review! I always loses my edc multitool.
How hard would it be to mod these Workpro's? What screws hold them together. Please do a vid where you do some mods, such as installing the bit driver you prefer into them. Can you put the hook blade from a Charge in this?
no on the charge (different pivot size) but should be compatible with a LOT of the the budget multitool items and bit drivers. It may require a few screw pliers to mod! sounds like a fun video idea!
Btw, how you doing Charles??
@@maxlvledc Good!
Hey, if I buy an Arc and donate the magnacut blade, will you do a vid of modding a hook blade from a Charge to go in it and send it to me? Then you could do another vid on what to do with a spare magna cut blade from an Arc...
If that won't work, how about a set of rotor blades??
Gerber just doesn't want their screwdrivers to lock.... Why 😅
Price is up to $35.99 and climbing. Will probably cost as much as a Leatherman by January.
Workpro has a multitool similar to the skeletool for only 20 bucks as well not terrible for the money
In my opinion it's easy to follow, but hard to lead.
I get it - on budget ....
I currently carry a Leatherman Skeletool. This looks way more functional at half the price.
Currently $32 on Amazon. They must have bumped it after you made the video.
I'll go with my original bucktool. I found one at a sale last year it's gem mint.
I have three WorkPro on that range price (not that exact model), and without much strenous work, the metal break so the pliers are usable simply broke (it also works as cover for the pliers when folded), making the pliers unusable without some soldering work.,..
This is a good tool to leave in your car and if it ever gets stolen or lost the damage is digestible. I see comments that prices went up to $35 after this review and it’s now at $32. Still significantly above the $22 price in the video only after 2 months of posting. I don’t need it at $32. I would buy one at $22 just for the heck of it.
I bought the Leatherman Wingman at Bass Pro the first year they came out. I paid $25.99. Now they are going for $65.00 plus.
Still using my Leatherman Super Tool I bought in '93. I do not like their newer tools. I may have to check these out.
The surge and charge are the only multitools i will carry as a professional handyman.
I would bring this traveling overseas! If there is a check point or ban where I may have to ditch it, I'm not going to cry about the cost of losing it!!
I've owned 3 Waves and just lost a Charge. All four slipped from my pocket because the clip hung up on something. I only bought the Charge for a special job, otherwise I'd sworn off expensive multi-tools for like 8 years, carrying a Wingman I bought for $35 (and still have) when they were priced reasonably.
If these are decent I may buy 5 or 6 of them for the price of my Charge and keep one in every pack and vehicle.
I bought the Bibury Multi Pliers Pro multi tool. I've had it about 6 months now. I paid £34.98 and got it in an Amazon Prime half price deal. I have to say it is quite heavy but is amazingly useful. I use it most days for a multitude of different tasks. The blades have stayed razor sharp and none of the other tools have blunted.
I can't honestly see any point in buying Leatherman tools as mine cost £100 less than its LM equivalent. You do the maths...........
This looks awesome, I'm getting one for a little car kit, someone stole my Leatherman from the car
Price is up to $31.99 - guess cause of the attention it got after HVAC & you reviewed it
Wow, your video premieres and nine hours later that $23 is now $29.99!
I personally feel that cheaper priced multitools actually help the most expensive brands like gerber and leatherman. I used to buy the cheaper multitools. Eventually, it became a goal of mine to make the step up to gerber and leatherman. But by the time i bought one of each, i had plenty of the cheaper ones laying around.
Fun fact: Gerber and Leatherman are both made in Portland OR. I worked for Leatherman assembling the Wave tool back in 2008 as a temp. It was a great company then. I don't know if it has changed since then but the owner was cool as hell with the employees.
Realistically what most people need with a multi tool is a screwdriver of both flavors the pliers that they can use to cut wire or as a wrench anything else more than that really is overkill I think if I were to design a multitool, I would make the players kick ass and the screwdrivers kick ass and put a decent blade on it and I think the scissors on this one A great idea
Where did you find the blue one? I can’t find it anywhere.
I too am bothered by the over $10 price jump from your video (released two days ago as of writing of this comment) to today.
I gave my Lm. Wave away because i slipped the pliers and pinched my hand very badly, exact what you demonstrated.
Thank you
I like these budget tools because a lot of these edc items are usually overpriced they will usually just add titanium so the can charge you an extra 100 bucks. i just want something cheap that will be functional not pocket jewelry popular in the EDC world.
Just looked these up on Amazon, now $36
Lanyard loop?! That would be a mega win...
I would definitely take one of these over the NXT. Started with an NXT and now have Leathermans and man the NXT is indeed a piece of junk. The tools, including the knife, are barely held in place and always try to poke out. I just keep it in my truck now since I don't care to use it for daily tasks.
crazy how this is already goin up $8+ in a 20hours.
Are you going to do a "Rocktol" budget vid on these tools? They look interesting.
I don't care that a budget multi tool does not have fierce pliers. For heavy jobs I use heavy tools. If I will ever buy one it will be for these times where you need your tool set but you got only this in the bag and it will be good enough for this case. I understand some will think otherwise but this is just me. Thank you for another coherent review, I know everything I need to know.
Btw the tool is $35 when I open the link, and also it cannot be shipped to me. :')
Needs sewing awl, but I could make it work for me, with a few minor add on's and adjustments.
Field testing over time is what’s up
