This webcast of the symposium entitled "The Illusive Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea: Targeting Etiology with Emerging Therapies", which was presented during the Annual American College of Physicians Conference in May 2016, focuses on the interpretation of best practices and recent advancements in the management of IBS-D and their application to clinical practice.
The expert faculty further discuss the new Rome IV criteria, novel therapies that can be used in combination with other supportive therapies, the diagnosis of underlying IBS-D etiology, and provide a review of therapies under investigation.
In this presentation, Dr. Nicholas Talley discusses the pathophysiology and treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D).

30 years ago I had a stomach bug for about 10 days, after it went away it came back after 3 weeks, lasted another 10 days, then came back 3 or 4 more times during the rest of the year. Each time was less bad than the one before it. Now I think it was IBS following gastroenteritis which I had never heard of until recently.

Maybe try a product I saw online called IBSolution. I read its reviews on its website and people are saying its the only product that ended all their IBS symptoms.
Also, I saw a lady on utube, she says taking Ketone supplements is working wonders for her IBS- D.

lack of stimuli, a default emotion of low mood and catastrophic thinking, lack of sense of well being, boredom, this is a condition in big cities usually..go to a titty bar and sit there for hours, you're cured just for a few days...this will prove that its lack of stimuli, ibs is basically beginner version of ibd...ibd comes after ibs, both are the same..they both go away when you have stimuli and purpose back into your life...facts is what im saying..gl

I've watched 50 videos like this one over the years. I'm glad that diagnostic understanding is increasing a lot, but they still don't have effective treatments. WHERE ARE THE TREATMENTS??? I don't want to see another $10 million put into lab tests, machines, etc... I want to see a treatment that actually works.

You explained my entire digestive track in 22 mins. I remember the day that my ibs started. I had a ranch chicken snack wrap from McDonald’s in 2011 and I ended up with food poisoning after eating there. I was sick for like 3 days with it. Right after that happened my stomach was never the same

First time seeing the pathophysiology of IBS being explained. It kinda sounds like ibs can manifest itself as a combination of sibo and leaky gut.

  • @youdontwanttoknow5203

Exercise can also make it worse. It speeds up motility - as if it's not bad enough already. The gut-ache is also worse. The cholestyramine just turned stools orange. I wish it would have worked. Psych meds are playing with fire with the brain and the side effects. Probiotics made mine worse. They took extra precautions to make sure loperamide was safe before making it available by prescription and then OTC. Now you need a script for taking it on a daily basis because some idiots think you can get high on it. A few people died over a period of the 40 years that it was available OTC. And now they're penalizing people with IBS, making it difficult for us to get - making it difficult to get it even from a doctor who knows you've had this for a very long time. It's insane.

Wow! In the past 30 years I have had 3 different docs in 3 different cities in 2 different states diagnose me with IBS and I have been living in my own private hell for going on 31 years and now this guy is telling me that I DO NOT have IBS!!!!! I would love to meet with him and see what he thinks I have. I have every symptom of IBS EXCEPT the pain ... I do not and have not had any pain. I guess I should be thankful of that but even that doesn't help when one messes in one's pants in public ... like at Disney World 😒

I've had issues since I was a baby. I had slow bowel and severe constipation up till 17. From then to the age of 21, I had mixed and from then to now at 24 I've mostly got diarrhoea which is scidic and makes me have severe naydes, vertigo, I'm cold most of the time, bloating, tiredness and pain. I'm under investigations for endometriosis as well as some other things. I've had hundreds of bloods, urine and poop samples and all come back normal. So does my CT scans and CS scans. I've tried every diet: some helps with the bloating but other than that it either makes me worse or stay the same. Same with the tablets and probiotics: stay the same or makes it worse. I'm in the UK. I'm having to look at going private as my doctors aren't considering further testing or expanding bloods (looking at bloods that aren't in the norm key points they look at ). 😭. The only thing I don't have is the drastic weight loss which is partly why my doctors won't look into it further xx

I found his statement that a colonoscopy is not to reassure people with suspect IBS very contestible. IMO that is exactly what it does. A colonoscopy in most caes will tell you what you dont have, not give you a diagnosis of what you do have. After a colonoscopy you may be told for example "well, no chron's disease, no inflammation, no tumours." That can be very reassuring!

    • @peachy75019

Sherri ... it is a common problem with gallbladder removal because the function of the gallbladder is to distribute bile from the liver to the digestive tract. When you eat anything fatty, the body needs bile to help digest it so when you eat a fatty substance, the gallbladders says "Oh, here let me give you some bile to help you with that." LOL So when you have your gallbladder removed, you don't have that gatekeeper anymore and since the liver is always producing bile, it is just dumped into your digestive tract as it is produced. As it courses through it causes your diarrhea. Questran used to be prescribed for post gallbladder surgery to help with the problem. I don't know if they still prescribe it for that. For a lot of people, the problem clears itself up over time as your body acclimates to not have the gallbladder.

This subservience to the Rome deifnitions should be questioned. For example in my earlyy days of IBS (first 25 years-have had it for most of my lfie) I frequently had abdominal pain, about three times a week. This has gone down the last five or six years to about one attack of colic every ten days . My IBS-D is otherwise still bad. If my abdominal pain altogether stops at some stage, but every thing remains the same, that could hardly mean that I no longer have IBS, yet according to the Rome definitions that is exactly what it means. That has to be wrong! Yet doctors STILL have total trust ib theoretical definitions handed down to them by a handful of experts. It really is time that doctors became a little more ready to challenge and question.
