    i used to live in a jewish neighborhood in brooklyn new york and i was walking home with my hispanic friends when a jewish guy in a van pulled up and told us that he doesnt want our kind around and he followed us to our homes while living in this neighborhood i made multiple hispanic, black, asian, even arabic friends but not one jew remind you that this is a jewish neighborhood where the majority are jews the chances of me making a jewish friend should be higher than an asian but no i had tons of asian friends not one jew the only time a jew ever made conversation with me was when it was shabbat and they asked me if i could turn off the lights for them in their house i lived there for 10 years and i do not have a positive memory dealing with jews in brooklyn they have their own ambulances police and even public transportation they take any extra precautions to not associate with "outsiders" to the extent that they cross the street when they see you its a shame that a group that faced as much of discrimination as your own is discriminating against others

    Born in Ukraine, grew up in the US. If you ask a Russian tourist what they think about Americans, you'll hear about "rubber smiles, which are just masks, where nobody really likes you, but smiles all the time like an idiot" etc. etc. etc. Ask an American tourist the reverse and you'll get how nobody smiles on the street, everybody looks at you suspiciously, etc. etc. etc. But as you spend time in either place, you realize that this doesn't really define the people and the culture. In that sense, that guy at a cafe was right: you shouldn't draw conclusions from a short vacation.

    • @ProZackBoy
      @ProZackBoy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I agree wholeheartedly. Most tourists don't get to spend any real time with locals simply because it's impossible to strike up a deep conversation with a stranger in your own country, let alone on the other side of the world.
      You really "know" the locals when you actually live amongst them, like you did.

    • @revol148
      @revol148 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      can you also take into consideration the truly atrocious reputation Israelis have abroad as well - I'm thinking Nepal,Thailand, Peru and Goa in particular?

    • @olterigo
      @olterigo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      revol148 And? You want to hear of the reputation that the Indians and India, the Thai/Thailand/child prostitution, the Peruans (like much of the rest of the Latin Americans) have in the US?

    • @revol148
      @revol148 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ***** good bit of deflection there: take the original comment - bring in another nationality and turn the question around a full 180 degrees - nice one! Anyway about these Israelis I was talking about....

    • @olterigo
      @olterigo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      revol148 It's not a deflection. It's reality that we always find something not to like in someone else's culture when there's a disconnect or a gap with ours. Most Americans who travel to Peru, for example, wouldn't go if it weren't for the Inca ruins - what else makes Peru different from any other Third World country?

    uhhh... if enough people are saying Israelis are rude, they are probably rude. I'm American and I deal with rude Americans every day. I know if a tourist says we are rude, I believe them.

  • @eshvartz
    @eshvartz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +86

    My answer, as an Israeli: I think we Israelis are extremely rude, very racist and of course, we do think we're better than all other people. I don't accept the answers/excuses given in this video. Why are we like this? In my opinion it's a mixture of answers. Here are only 4 reasons: 1) We think we're the best because we sometimes believe in the Jewish concept of the Chosen People. Every Israeli Jew, even the secular, is secretly asking him/herself why are we chosen? What's the purpose of being chosen? -The land, "The Holy Land" is the chosen land some would say.. Why is this tiny piece of hot desert chosen? Remember, as Jews we don't necessarily care that Jesus walked here. For us he was Joshua or something, a Jewish guy from Nazereth. Why were we supposedly destined to live in this awful part of the world?.. 2) Overly dense, life is extremely hard: Israel is in many ways, the opposite of Canada. Canada is huge and has room to breath. It's got no wars, no aggressive area politics, it cannot be easily conquered. It has resources, we had only Salt for the first 70 years. Not even trees and shade when the country was established!! While the countries are opposites, so are the people. In some ways, people are shaped by the land and its reality. 3) We are indeed still a tribal society. In mentality at least. Worst than that, we are 12 tribal societies mashed together, with hate, racism and exclusion all very apparent in between our different tribes. The tribes, fight between themselves, though some would deny. So of course it is the attitude others get from us. Just imagine, a French and a German or a Polish and a British are far more similar to each other than an Ashkenazi Jew and a Yemenite Jew living 20 meters apart in Israel. 4) We are the as closed as any liberal society can be, so much as to be similar to dictatorships in that manner. Meaning, for example, Israelis literally can't drive outside their country's border. In all 70 years of existence, Israelis could never as to even walk 1 meter outside their country (apart for a small period where we were able to vacate in Egypt's Sinai and not without risking our lives). As Jews we receive hate and violence in almost every part of the world when we travel. etc.. etc.. This, among other things, drives us into being a very closed society where we choose to elect those who will keep us close and safe to power. Sort of a Stockholm syndrome. We choose to read the papers that tell us we can keep being a close and safe society. We are, in a way, caught in a cycle that perpetuates itself, it will take a long time or a catastrophically proportioned event to shake us out of this rotten state. ---We're not a very nice people, rarely ever outside our tribe.

      FYI Christianity claims its followers are chosen by God and Jews are no longer chosen, same with Islam that claims the same about Muslims vs Christians and Jews.
      Jews are criticized for "being chosen" notion by Muslims and Christians because of this marketing issue.

      @CULI-FABRIZIO Fabrizio, it is the Romans who crucified Jesus, a Jew. He was a reformist who created Christianity. He was allegedly betrayed by a fellow Jew but however you spin it, the Romans, not the Jews, are thr ones who crucified Jesus.

    I'm living in Israel (even better, in a settlement since childhood) and have to agree, most have forgotten the genuine "human" inside of them.
    It's a social / psychological destruction journey that begins since childhood.
    There are a million of details on why and how: the jewish religion, psychological mirroring, the military service, the holocaust, all together create a strong "Israeli" self-identity while throwing the "human" identity down the garbage.
    My favorite point of reference is that it's very rare to find Israelis going solo and joining another group of mixed nationalities to hang out and travel. That's a big red flag, and probably all the proof you need that something is fucked up in here.
    "Chosen people" of course is only relevant for the religious people (50% of population) and I don't even need to discuss this ridiculous detail. Me myself, I'm heading out to a more friendly country, I'm actually surprised I "survived" it and kept my normal human touch throughout the entire process, which felt almost as self-torture I guess cause I've could have done it sooner.

    • @emmettwalz
      @emmettwalz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      There are many Israelis who appear to have gleaned your same understanding after their growing up in Israel. Gilad Atzmon comes to mind as a brilliant spokesperson for coming to terms with a religious/ethnic/nationalist identification which denies the universalist/ humanist impulses of Western Civilization, derived from the Greco/Roman/Christian "evolution" of thought. You could do no better than read his work "The Wandering Who", to help separate yourself from a former identification, which no longer nurtures your "human touch". Best of fortune to you.

    I’m a Canadian and I visited Israel in 1998. I too found that Israelis are very unfriendly, arrogant and rude people. Smiley faces to a stranger?! Huh, forget about it... However, few Israelis from European roots showed some sociability. But my final impression is that there’s too much hate in Israel. By the way, I also visited Lebanon (which is a Middle Eastern country) and people there, especially in the Christian areas, are the friendliest, warmest and most loving people I've ever met in my life. In just some minutes, one feels he's one of them. They just adore strangers and I felt I don’t wanna leave this beautiful people… So it's not an excuse to say that rudeness and arrogance are middle-eastern traits!

    I worked at an israeli company for a couple years as a non jew. People were very welcoming, warm, funny, and straightforward. BUT i did get a sense of underlying exclusivity. It was never in your face but always under the surface. Like they were all part of a secret society with a secret handshake. That might've been my imagination, but I'd imagine the same exclusivity would be present at any organization where the majority is made of a group of people with similar values and backgrounds.

      I think it is because you are one man in a lot of Israelies, but also we Israelies see what people say about us in the world news and it effect us, and also we have different culter, traditions and religion and usually don't feel at home in other countries. Also military service and the reality of wars and terror attacks, being on constant threat creates trible connection that we can't explain to somebody that comes from outside. We care for each other more, and will do a lot to help others from our "tribe", but it will take us more effort to connect with someone from another coutry who doesn't really get our directness and less formality, and feel like they don't really understand us.

    I am an Israeli that lives in the US for several years. I live in downtown Chicago
    ....I feel that I can answer some of the questions, and this is my opinion
    Israelis are rude aggressive loud pushy aren't polite and they do think that they are better then everyone else
    Why?
    .It is hard to explain and I feel that with time it even got worse. I wish it was not like that but it does.
    I feel that in Chicago people are very polite nice and respectful and I love it.
    Now every coin has two sides.
    I feel that in Israel people are warm and open that leads them to be more direct and everyone is "in your business"e
    In the US everyone is keeping there business for them self
    Now here is why.
    1)
    Israel was formed very quickly when immigrants came from all over the world were everyone brought his
    culture from where he lived before, was very proud of it and thought that this is the way it should be.
    This creates an ethnical competition everyone tries to prove that they are better
    . and the behavior that remains after this fusion is very aggressive
    2)
    The Jewish mother wants her son/daughter to be a doctor and tells all the time that he/r is the best .
    3)
    Israelis have a huge problem, they hate to feel cheated and especially that they are "suckers" this fear is very strong, stronger then anywhere else.
    In the US people are very polite and nice, but it is very shallow and people are not very warm,
    If you do not mind your own business you may find yourself in deep troubles
    Where I live,it is very nice but 20 min from here to the south side of Chicago, it is a real zoo of drugs and violence
    In Israel every place is safe
    The US is huge so they have to have strict rules and regulations the individual is not important as the country and the law.
    Israel is a small country that should make rules and regulations but the government is doing a poor job. The individual is more important the the country

    I'm a Macedonian /Australian, I have worked as a contractor for Jews of different ethnicity's. Most of them I found are very direct which can be taken as aggressive or rude, this goes especially for Hungarian Jews very serious people. On the other hand South African Jews a quite the opposite, friendly people. One thing about them all is they were all very wealthy people, I never met a broke Jew. From what I can see on the video is they all seem to be educated well spoken people, yet the last guy in the clip shows what I was saying about arrogance. This does not mean that he is a bad person it's rather a cultural thing. For example listen the way southern Europeans or Middle Eastern people talk, you'd think they were fighting. It's the way they converse nothing more than that. Love your clips they are very informative.

      Yes. Dutch people are very open about their opinions. We have had a politically correct, elite that has been ruling over us for a long time though. (i don't know if you know what is going on over here) But they never really represented the real dutch people. We just became indifferent about politics and got distracted by material things because we all lived good, easy lives. Even poor people.
      In Sweden the people are actually themselves very weak so the PC elite does represent the Swedes pretty well over there i think.
      Dutch people are not like that at all. People have been waking up more and more lately and they started to become interested in politics again and now the dutch Government is becoming afraid. People are using increasingly more aggressive language against the traitor politicians and there has even been some violence already.
      I don't think you will ever see that happening in a country like Sweden..

      @VikaraDas 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No; being delusional is an essential aspect of Narcissistic-Tribal Culture. The ancient Israeli scholar/"prophet" Amos outlined this in papers, which later became part of the Hebrew Bible. While recent politics make it seem like all forms of Zionism and Israeli Culture take self-serving bias as an innate and inherent part of the local Culture, narcissism and especially narcissistic Nationalism/Tribalism has been seen as poison to the culture since at least the time of Amos. In Amosian Zionism, the point of Judaism is to act as an example counter to narcissism (ie; Socially-Positive Societal Growth); the purpose of (Amosian) Zionism is to establish a place where this can be practiced openly and safely.

It's a different culture than my own, and yes I can understand if some people interpret their behavior patterns in supermarkets, bus stations, and other public places as being rude.
    The important point to remember is that it is not intentional; they are just used to pushing and shoving in certain situations; it's not a unique behavior but it can feel unpleasant if you are a tourist and you're trying to get something done (buy tickets for the train, book a hotel room, deal with taxi drivers, etc.)

In Yiddish it means boldness, audacity or strong nerve. Israelis have a lot of Chutzpah, because they've had to in order to survive. If people don't understand that, then of course they will think Israelis are rude. Especially Americans. I was in Israel 2 years ago. i arrived at ben gurion airport 2am and realised there is no airport hotel (i was supposed to meet rest of my group 5pm, so i had 15hrs to kill). I was advised to take the bus to tel aviv and lodge there for the night. I took the airport bus to tel aviv and had no idea where to go from there. So i asked an Israeli couple from the bus where the nearest hotel is. They told me that i was in the city center and that there are lots of hotels, but they added that they would be happy to host me in their home for the night. To be honest i was suprised. I had a quick though about their offer and accepted it (i would not have accepted if it was a man/men but they were a nice couple of husband and wife. I joined them to their home which was in the city center. They were sooooo hospitable - made me bed, gave me towels and told me i could take a shower if i wanted to etc. In the morning when i woke up, the lady asked what i wanted for breakfast and how i wanted my coffee etc. Soo we had breakfast together and chatted and got to know eachother. After i left their house they even sent me a follow up message to see how i was doing, whether i managed to meet my group etc. Sooo nice people, gave me super good first impression of israelis. And i must say people that i met during my holiday were generally very nice all of them. Soo i think that this colombian tourist was unfortunately very unlucky with people (s)he met...

    I worked in a hostel for some years in Amsterdam, we had guests from all over the world, the most annoying ones were by far the Israelis, almost all of them would immediately check the receit in front of your face, ask questions in an attacking/blaming way and tone and almost always try to get a better deal, room, lower price etc., and usually complain about a lot of things. I don't think it's a jewish thing, since we also had a lot of jews, from the US, that were nothing like the israelis. To me the israelis were very similar in behaviour with Turks and Middle Easteners (also not my favorite guests usually) in the angry/rude tone, the mistrust towards others, trying or havingh to negotiate prices and being pushy, not accepting 'no' easily. I guess it's because they have to be in their own countries. I don't think it has to do with the 'chosen people' or being closed for outsiders or because they feel superior, it
    might be the case, but Koreans and Japanese also believe they are the best in general and they are one of the most polite and friendly people usually.

      No, he said his own Mideast & (North) Westerner cultures are the cold ones *at **5:14**,* and he says Colombians are *warm* (or actually most Latinos, he said, not only Colombians) ...see, this is what happens: you get confused because you don't know the language, leading you to STEREOTYPE the entire nation (and possibly is what made the other Colombiana stereotype them...or *the Latina tourist may have only visited the Big Cities:* e.g. people tell me "The French are rude"...usually the ones who visited only Paris, not the French countryside. When I hear a tourist stereotype an entire nation, it makes me think the tourist wishes to think herself as "above" the foreigners, not vice-versa. e.g. Sociologists have shown that when people (not only the Jews) are in a big city, they do have a tendency to be more rude than "country folks".

(when I was a teenager it was bus explotions, than car ranothers, now mainly stabbing events, and of course entering sheltters in case of misilles attack (especially in the south close to Gaza).

    Israel's culture maybe a bit arrogant, but you can say that about many cultures in the world. I heard it said about China, South Korea, and Turkey but also European countries like France and rural Poland. I think it's because of the current bigot Israeli government, which sadly probably isn't going to change, that does all these bad things, that make tourists associate rudeness and arrogance with simply the people who live inside Israel. This view is probably a bit ignorant and naive, I've been in Israel and though the way people behave feels very western it also feels very foreign and maybe that makes people have these generalised asuumptions of a people.

    I think if they have travelled, they know well enough that you can meet with higher levels of courtesy in some other places. In my opinion Israelis are a fortress people due to the political situation and this contributes to a tough, terse outward image. A lot of them came from cultures (German, Russian for instance) where people are generally not smiley and tripping over themselves to help you. This doesn't mean cultures like that are necessarily bad, just not immediately endearing to tourists. Then on top of that they are a hurt people, well aware of the Israel bashing that goes on, defensive of their country, not wanting to be vulnerable and lay themselves open to attack. I could imagine that having a holocaust background would have intensified mistrust and wariness of foreigners. Mainly I think it is down to having been a country under attack since its creation which didn't lend itself to acquiring courtly manners. I didn't personally find them rude when I was there for 10 days in the 90s. Maybe it has changed since then.

    Spent a fair amount of time with Israeli. First I want to say people should be seen as an individual and not as a group. Now, from my experience...if I had to described the majority I encountered... it would be LOUD and ARROGANT. Giving off a sense of entitlement. I had a guesthouse and had many as customers. A small handful were so nice and polite. Others annoyed you to no end with the haggling and neediness. All through the market in this small Indian town, they would be giving shop owners a hard time. In one way they were right because foreigners were always 'over charged' - but man they took it to the next level. Our rooms would sometimes only be selling for 300inr. Rooms were clean, hot water, private baths beautiful view, complimentary chai and room service --- and they would still eat your brain to go lower.

    I don't think any (secular and thus the vast majority of the population) Israeli thinks he or she is better than anyone else. They are just very direct and no-nonsense people. Thus, unlike other country's hospitality workers they will not ALWAYS be as nice. That said, hotel and general hospitality staff will be very nice and courteous towards you, unless you don't follow the rules. For example, I was at the Dead Sea and there was a tank with the fish that clean your feet (dead skin and such) and the sign said one person at a time. Two of my friends decided to get in there together because we were short on time, and the owner came out REALLY mad and wasn't hearing any sort of excuse. In fact, one of our other friends was asking "Can you help me understand as to why?" and the woman just says "you're too stupid to understand". Ironic because our friend is a doctor lol. The real reason was that the tank would collapse under the weight even though these girls weigh a combined total of MAYBE 220 pounds lol Another instance I had with bad customer service was asking for a cappuccino at a cafe/convenience store. The girl whom I had asked passed me on to one of the other girls working there, who, upon hearing what I wanted, yelled at the original girl and had her make it for me. I felt somewhat...bad - for no reason, haha - and said (in Hebrew) "sorry for the inconvenience, I know you're very busy here" and she just nodded like "yeah GTFO now a-hole". The only other chutzpah I experienced was actually from a hookah bar waiter that had to juggle 15 of us' requests and the bill. He was just sarcastic at one point like "sweetie, you better get your friends to come back here and settle the tab unless you want to give me 400 shekels you all own" to my friend who ordered one beer LOL But all three of the experiences are over YEARS of me spending time there soooo

      Abdurrahman Köksal
      Christianity identifies itself as the natural successor to ancient Judaism. The Bible's Old Testament is made up of the major Jewish writings up until the coming of Christ. Historically, Christianity has had a strange relationship with Judaism. Religiously, Christianity sees modern Judaism (anything after Christ) as being corrupted by rules, rituals and a rejection of God. However, the Jew ethnicity is seen as special, having descended from the 12 tribes of Israel and Abraham.
      Since the bible says. "And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed."
      Many Christians feel a sort of responsibility to protect the nation of Israel.
      Modern Christianity, still sees Judaism as a pathway taken off the truth. But Israel is Israel. Naturally they prefer the land to remain in either Christian or Ethnically Jewish Hands.

      Do you even know the definition of Apartheid?
      The sheer ignorance oozing out of people nowadays is appalling.
      Apartheid was a system of racial segregation in South Africa enforced through legislation by the National Party government from the 80's through the early 90's,
      under which the rights, associations, and movements of the MAJORITY black inhabitants were curtailed and Afrikaner WHITE MINORITY rule was maintained.
      Do you see how foolish and ignorant your statement sounds like now?
      The 'palestinians' are officially governed by THEIR votes via TWO governing bodies: the Fatah (Mahmoud Abbas) and Hamas (Hania, Mash'al).
      They formed their separate governing rights, etc. They are a separate entity from the governing body of Israel --> That's criteria #1.
      The #2 criteria for Apartheid would be a racial MAJORITY that is ruled by a racial MINORITY within the governing body.
      Israel's population is far greater than the fakestinian..err 'palestinian' population! But that doesn't matter anyway due to criteria #1 which I stated above.
      Therefore your argument is INVALID. Try again. Read a book.

      Actually its you that needs to read a book Apartheid was a system of racial segregation in South Africa enforced through legislation by the National Party governments from 1948 to 1994.
      Israel is very close to becoming a fully apartheid state. If they don't except a two state solution then very soon the palestinians will outnumber the Israelis leaving them with two choices the end of a Jewish led state or no voting rights for palestinians. A lot of commentators say that Israel is dangrously close to being an apartheid state if they are not there already with Jewish-only settlements,the ID system, separate roads for Israeli and Palestinian citizens, military checkpoints, discriminatory marriage law, the West Bank barrier, use of Palestinians as cheap labour, Palestinian West Bank enclaves, inequities in infrastructure, and access to land and resources between Palestinians and Israeli residents in the Israeli-occupied territories resembles some aspects of the South African apartheid regime

    I have been to Israel twice for extended times two months at a time. I found Israelis to be kind and welcoming and very appreciative and very engaging. Some can be a little testy at first which I think is because most have to serve in the army. As well they are a country always under military or terrorist threat so it can make you nervy. However even soldiers I met were very well mannered and decent. Israelis are different but if you accept that you are fine. I was always treated very well. In my first visit for example I contacted a woman who was a good friend of a friend of mine at my home city. The woman was Yemini and when I met her it turned out she was getting married that weekend coming. Nevertheless she insisted I come to stay at her family home and come to the wedding. It was a wonderful event. That is just one example. In my last trip three years ago I was no more than 40 minutes in the country and I had a dinner invite. Israeli were always good to me.

      the dark age
      I know. I'm an Arab. I live in Belgium. If i would have ruled over Arabia i would have changed that. But sadly Arabs of today are backwards. Arabs of the middle-ages in the time of Islam, were at least progressive. They invented, they conquered. Etc... They progressed. They thought about advancment, and about the future genrations. But somehow we are not the same today. I wish we could be like the Arabs before us (after jahiliya) but then more modern and adapted to modern age of course...

    I absolutely admired the final woman's analysis of this question. She was not biased and accurate. My answer would be that there definitely is a detachment between Israel and the rest of the world. Additionally, I feel that there are unreasonable expectations placed on all Israelis, and all Jewish people for that matter, to be overly accommodating without any reservation.

      It's pretty much expected with the way the question is phrased and vocalized. I think you would get that response in many countries.

      mourad 227 Israelis and Arabs are both hospitable. those are good traits that we share, but we are also pushy, aggressive, and steadfast when it comes to business. ever tried bartering with a middle eastern? i have bartered with both Israelis and Arabs in Israel and Judea and Samaria, try negotiating the price of merchandise with an Arab and you might get an idea of why its so hard to negotiate in politics as well.
      but hey, i love that about us :)

      Beni Habibi hahahha isrealis are no way no way hospitable like the arabs it has nothing to do for them being jewish no its the way they have been raised with the idea that the world hates them.

      mourad 227 you ever been over to an Israelis house? its pretty unusual that they won't be hospitable, as hospitality is considered one of the most important virtues in Judaism.

    It's not rudeness - it's stress from living in a country that is constantly under threat, which causes Israelis hardships on many levels: economically, socially, and so on. People are too preoccupied with daily survival to be smooth and polite. HOWEVER - Israelis know they must help each other to survive, and had that tourist fallen into REAL trouble - she would have discovered Israelis to be very caring and helpful. I speak from personal experience.

    I’ve lived here for a year in a half in Tel Aviv, it is by far the rudest most hostile arrogant country I’ve ever been to. All the Americans I work with feel the same.

    To the guy who said it was a stupid question:
    That statement in itself is arrogant and insensitive to the tourist.
    First impressions are also a reality in this world. That guy being interviewed negates feelings.
    Please see my following response....

      I do not accept that, its a stupid question. We're not rude. Other people are just stupid. I've traveled the world and I don't judge anybody.
