    Hi Jake, might be too late, but you can try to remove the corrosion and acid build up using vinegar. Just gently rub off the acid using cue tips or cotton buds to the corroded parts. Who knows, you might end up having 3 super 8 cameras.

    Really nice video..very clear how you explained. I am trying to repair a Super 8 camera but motor does not rotate....So can motors be fixed or is that the end of my project ?..thank yuou !

    • @jaketoohey
      @jaketoohey  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I find that motors are usually the most indestructible part of the camera. Could it not be rotating because it’s not receiving electricity because one of the connections between battery and motor is loose? I’d try to map the route from the actual motor to the handle and evaluate all the connection points. Sometimes the metal connections can get loose and need adjusting

      @@radioantique I watched many times to try and see anything. Here’s what I’d check - 1. Make sure new battery’s inside of the battery pack and that there are no corrosion inside. 2. Are the wires on the north side of the battery connection burnt? Could they be blown out? 3. Could be within the trigger. Sometimes the plastic parts that move the most (trigger) can age, making the whole mechanism dysfunctional (ie. Plastic trigger pushes metal flange, metal flange softly connects with the other metal flange in the body. That’s where you could add tin foil

    Thank you SOO much for making this and posting it!! It's great!! I am trying to locate a video to repair the battery terminal in the battery compartment for my 8mm Canon. Using foil works, but the spring is totally flat! It needs to be repaired. Do you think you can offer some advice?

    • @jaketoohey
      @jaketoohey  ปีที่แล้ว

      If the spring is flat, it might be stuck with battery corrosion. If so I’d try to clean it off with pair of tweezers and pick at it. Once you get a metal on metal connection of battery to spring with foil, things could work

    Hey idk if you still reply but I bought a Halina Super 8 1:18 and eveeything works, it had film too but for some reason the footage timer I have is stuck at 50

    • @jaketoohey
      @jaketoohey  ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience with 16mm specifically, issues with footage timer are a tell tale sign that things aren’t working. Most likely the motor is not spinning the magazine (which means the film is still unexposed and usable). 50 means 50 ft which is the starting point of the roll.

    With my camera, you can see the dome shaped shutter through the lens, but when I start pressing the trigger, it doesn't rotate (There's no film in the camera) Does that mean it's broken? I hear the motor running and what not.

    • @jaketoohey
      @jaketoohey  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm. Can you pull the trigger with the door open to see if the take up reel is turning? Try to look from the inside of the door->through the film gate-> through the lens to see if the shutter moves

    Well, I have this exact camera with the exact problem. But this video was not much help due to all the annoying jump-cuts, fast forwards and general inattention to detail. I'll give you credit for a general overview of the process but you really should improve your editing to accommodate the viewer. Don't get butthurt, I left you a thumbs up. Oh yes, and slow down buddy. Don't wave your objects around...hold them still so viewers can see and get a idea what's going on and what you're referring to.
