I work at a restaurant (not buffet) and I think that it’s shameful how much food gets thrown out!!! No manager should complain abt how much you eat as you clean your plate! I’ve been to buffets where customers load their plates up and take 2 bites… fill another plate and do the same…

It does my heart well to hear your comments about GC! I was a manager/owner of GC and it is a tough job to undertake. The main managers have a stake in the success of the restaurant since they own a percentage of the "net" profit dependent on the amount of time they work for the franchise.

I always HATED that chocolate fountain that Golden Corral introduced onto the buffet. It never failed, some lazy parent would let their little carpet crawlers loose at the dessert table and there was always one of the little heathens that would stick their fingers in the chocolate fountain, lick their fingers, then do it again. Germ Central.
I remember when they first came out with the fountain, I actually looked forward to it.. When we went I saw a ring of kids gathered around it, sticking god knows what into the fountain.. All I could picture in my head a was one of the kid's Band-Aid floating around in the pooled chocolate, along with crumbs from their double dipping their cookies, cakes, etc. I never went back after that...

All I can think about is that "Holy crap, I can't believe I ate that much" feeling when I leave a Golden Corral. How do these guys get around that absolutely miserable feeling? It just hurts...& these guys ate three times as much as I ever have.

Everything about this situation is baffling to me: I have no idea why a business owner would ever open an 'all-you-can-eat' style buffet and expect to turn a profit, but I'm equally confused why people go to buffets specifically to try and bankrupt them. I struggle to find motivation to eat at the best of times so the concept of eating for value as opposed to eating a small amount of food that you actually really felt like eating is alien to me
@@CopiousDoinksLLC Do you not realize that they have a huge amount of seniors that go and barely eat at all? It costs $15 per person if not more. Making big batches of things is very cheap. They wouldn’t be open after 20 years if they weren’t profitable

OYG..Reminds me of the night my family went out to a local buffet, The Country Buffet, in northern California way back in 1988. I saw a gent dressed in cowboy gear, including a huge western style hat. I saw he had a plate piled high of the fried chicken,which they sold separately without the buffet . I looked over a couple of minutes later and the mound of chicken was gone. So was he, getting another high piled plate of chicken. I just figured he liked chicken and ate fast. A few minutes later, yup, chicken gone & up for another plate full. This time I wasn't distracted and watched him. He picked up a piece of chicken, held it down in his lap looked around used his other hand to lift the brim of that enormous cowboy hat and stuck the chicken inside, like he was just wiping his hair back, repeating the steps for all the other chicken on his plate. I figured he had some type of bag system under his hat. What a funny memory. Why not buy it. Oh, I guess he did!
That cowboy was a genius 🤠

I somehow stumbled across this video and leaned two things:
1) I shouldn't judge a book by its cover. My first thought was this guy was going to be obnoxious and want everyone's attention when doing this or get upset when an employee mentions something about limiting his food. (I've seen too many other TH-cam videos where it ends like this)
That was the furthest from the truth. Never once did the video make a mockery of the establishment with only positive comments about the food. (I know how hard it is to run a restaurant and make everyone happy. Now a days everyone is an "expert" food critic with their Yelp reviews and TH-cam channel. It's refreshing to hear positive comments about food even if it's not the best you've ever had. (I'm probably coming off sounding like old grandpa but I'm just another "millennial".
2) I've never considered eating at a Golden Corral. The food looks good.

My parents go to florida every winter as soon as Christmas is done. When I go down to visit I always take them out to GC the night before I leave as a thank you because they enjoy it so much. It may not be the best but it’s something they love and as they are almost ready to enter their eighties, I wouldn’t trade these moments in for all the wealth in the world.
I'm SO envious of your ability to try and enjoy everything there. I can barely get a second plate in.

Sadly, there are plenty of people that would shut that down real quick, but not like any harm would come about it aside from awkwardness. The benefit of potentially saving someone that feels worthless absolutely outweighs that risk.

Bourbon chicken is the questioned item. I work here and love every day eating it. Chocolate chess pie was the pie eaten. You took out a weeks worth of my eating and way more than even our largest Sherman Texas GC daily return customers. Good Work & A+ vid too. 🤤

To your suggestion of talking to others: One time my husband and I were traveling, we stopped into a place for lunch and drinks. We asked the bartender how he was doing. He replied that he had to move that night after his shift and none of his friends came forward to help. He had to be out that night.... So that's what we did that night. He couldn't believe it when we offered to help. Oh. I've never been to GC. If they're still open I'll try it. My best guy friend loves the place.

I've been to Golden Corral, but admittedly it's been many years. I always thought their buffet food was average. Not great, not horrible. It was grade C food. What you're showing seems to be a bit better than what I remember, but then again I haven't eaten there recently. Though, with COVID, I'm not doing buffets at all.
My favorites at Golden Corral: meatloaf, pot roast, and carrot cake.

Golden Corral is 5 stars for the money. Nothing is fantastic, but everything is good. For the price you get a huge selection of food. A small portion of everything is what I usually go for. Better then being limited to a few sides at normal restaurants
