    I’m also Canadian, trying to get into MOT school here but it’s been much harder to get in :( so i’ve been looking into schools in Aus! I’m overwhelmed with the tuition fees and overall living cost... did you work and save up before or until going onto your journey to usyd?

      I totally get it Gloria, I was in the same boat as you! Can only imagine that GPA requirements keep going up in Canada (to be competitive). Anyway I took out some student loans and very grateful to have some help from family. Like i mentioned in the vid, it's important to consider the ROI (return in investment) because being an OT can afford a comfortable lifestyle but if it's going to take yearss to pay off debt that may hinder other life goals as well. Let me know what you decide, and best wishes ❤️

    Hi Sharon, thank you very much for sharing. Your video is very informative! 😊
    I'm currently considering a career change, and am planning to apply for the MOT at USYD. I'm just wondering if your undergrad degree is also a health-related degree? Or did you have any classmates in the MOT course that are from a non-health background?

    • @sharonhavily
      @sharonhavily  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Priscilla, thanks! I graduated with a BA in psyc and crim. But some of my peers came from business and engineering backgrounds too. If you do not have any basic psyc prerequisites like psyc 101 from undergrad, you'll have to take it instead of an elective in the MOT course. I'd suggest taking psyc 101 at any qualified institution online to make room for the OT electives (which are more fun!). I'd imagine more difficulty with studying for anatomy without any familiarity of the human body. But everyone goes through the same course load except 1-2 electives in 2nd year.
      Hope that helps inform your decision. Best wishes! 🙏😊

    Hi Sharon thanks for this helpful video, You've said there is no needed for master degree for working as OT in Australia. İs this the same for Canada? And do you know how this procedure works in other countries? I am currently a bachelor student of OT and I was wondering which countries I could work after graduation.

    • @sharonhavily
      @sharonhavily  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In Canada it's possible with a Bachelor but they will be transitioning into masters only eventually. You may want to check the WFOT forums and OT on Reddit 🙂

      Thanks for your lovely comment ! I don't have any experience with education in Europe but I do know that it's not all free. I've heard that OT programs are indeed cheaper than say going to Australia. Also, if European international programs are free I would think they are likely very competitive. Let us know if you've found any more info on this ! Would be so interesting to know 😊

    Hey I am currently in Australia studying MOT. Do you think equivalency/accredited process in Canada was slower for you due to COVID? I heard they were very slow since 2020 due to closures, otherwise it should only take 6 months!

    • @sharonhavily
      @sharonhavily  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I started my process to get accredited in Canada in Jan 2019 and if everything went well, could have started working by spring 2020 - so more than a year still! Not sure how fast they are processing them now but I would still suggest to assume 1 year. I was also told 6months before but that didn't turn out to be true 😂

      Hi Malik, i believe it depends on the program. If your program is recognized by WFOT then that is a good first step. Next you should check AHPRA (Australia's allied health professional regulatory body) for their registration process ☺️

    • @sharonhavily
      @sharonhavily  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ankit, thank you for watching! OT is quite an in demand job in countries like USA, Canada, UK, Australia but each country has their own requirements to qualify as an OT in their country. Of course she would have to go through the immigration process before applying to be an OT in that country. She can check in the WFOT website for the countries she is interested in. Even though some countries may pay better than others, she should also consider the cost of living of those cities. Ex. California pays quite high for OTs but also is very expensive to live in.

    • @sharonhavily
      @sharonhavily  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi ! In Australia you there aren't any differences with bachelor's or master's. I actually think you have an advantage because you can get more years or clinical experience early on ! Only drawback of bachelor's is if you want to work in other countries, some require masters but I'm not totally sure. Generally speaking, if you have master's degree you may be slightly higher on the PayScale for government jobs but I think for AUS it it dependent on the years of practice you've had. The master's is an entry-level degree for people who want to switch into and OT career but had other bachelor's degrees. If, one day you want to go into research then perhaps you'd need a master's before going for the PhD ☺️ Hope that helps !

      hi !! omg an army :o im so happy !!! uhm i'm in grade 12 and i just started to learn about becoming an OT a few months ago and i was just wondering what the process of being an OT student in Australia requires? like what universities offer it (which one did u go to, if ur able to say ☺️) and which pre reqs u did? because i'm stuck between OT and psychology and i don't really know how to go about the OT pathway, aaaa this was so long aha tysm !!!💓

    • @loveyoongi9143
      @loveyoongi9143 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LeeanneDelaCruz hii!! the process is actually really easy to apply for OT!! for my university i believe english and one of the sciences (either chemistry, biology or phsyics) were the only pre requisites. so yeah just make sure you are doing those subjects. since i am in QLD i applied to OT using QTAC :) another thing to keep in mind is the atar ranking you need to get into the OT program you desire (i believe the atar rankings are different for each university so i recommend you going on ur desired universities website and finding out what atar you need to get in :) if u dont get the desired atar there are other pathways i believe u can choose to get into OT, but its best u talk to ur schools career advisor as that would be rlly helpful and they tell you all the info u need to know :) my OT degree is 4 years, im currently in second year and im loving it!! i may be a bit biased but u should go for OT hahah :')) but do as much research as you can to see which career option you would like more,, good luck for deciding!! and sorry for the long message but i hope it was helpfullll

    Hii...did u specialised anything in your master of occupational therapy???

    • @sharonhavily
      @sharonhavily  ปีที่แล้ว

      We had two elective courses, so you can choose from there. However when looking at jobs, they may take your elective courses into consideration but you'll likely need more practice experience before specializing. My program also had the option to write a research paper instead of the two electives. I did not choose that route, but you get to work closely with a professor and build connections with the OT field. Could be a good way to land a job after too !

    Is Masters compulsory?

    • @sharonhavily
      @sharonhavily  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Masters is not mandatory in Australia. I'd suggest looking at the AHPRA requirements - they are the governing body of allied health professions (OT PT SLP Etc.). You may need to go through some documentation process to prove your degree to equivalent to theirs. If you degree is recognized by WFOT that's a good start 😊 best wishes ! ❤️

      Hi! Yes that's right, there's lots of bachelor's of OT in Australia too. I would suggest checking the AHPRA requirements to practice is Australia first. Then you can check with the Australian government what kind of visa you can go on (i.e. working holiday, immigration, work-study). If you can jump through that hoop there's lots of jobs opportunities. Good luck ! ☺️
